- There are countless houses in Westeros, however the most powerful and influential among them are called great houses, despite their vast influence and power over the centuries, just like the smaller houses, they are often perished in history and are no longer active and today, I talked about them
NOTE - The characters and story are based on the books, rather than Show, which is why appearance of several characters might differ from the show and chronology of certain events might be different from the show as well.

I like the idea that Garth the Green was a hybrid of the first men and Children of The Forest, that was already there when the first men started to explore Westeros
The og declan harp
Garth the green being a hybrid of first men and children of the forest would mean Margaery Tyrell and her family are blood related to the children of the forest.
@@SaraStarlight-sw8lb A lot of first men heroes have been reported in possessing abilities similar to those of the children of the forest, I don't think it's a stretch to think that, even though it's diluted, the heritage still runs through their veins.
The description with the antlers makes him sound like one of the green men from the isle of faces. They may well be some hybrid species or a different species entirely
@@cameronsmith8092 Maybe, but it's not impossible that First Men/Children of The Forest hybrids were magical people.
Many of these Houses were never destroyed. The Gardeners still exist through their cadet houses, but it's true that they were "destroyed" in the sense that none of them are considered Great Houses or Lords Paramount. House Hightower still endure as well in their ancestral position, even after the Dance. The Mudds still exist, but they've been divested of their lands. The Baratheons still exist. The Velaryons still exist. Several Houses that were destroyed are not mentioned; like the Reynes (suspected to be still extant technically, through House Vikary, possibly a bastard house), House Qoherys is mentioned but not expanded on, but they are completely extinct and there are probably a lot more of them I can't think of right now, but I suppose those are not technically "Great" Houses. A better title might be Great Houses that were destroyed *or* diminished.
Gareth Greenhand is Tom Bombadil confirmed.
Great video...but some of these are certainly not destroyed though
Same thing I said .
Where do you get those detailed maps from?
okay, but Velaryons are not extinct
😭😭🤣🤣
They have no legitimate velaryons left. It’s just one bastard dude. The blood carried on but not the legacy. It’s basically the same deal as the blackfyres. All the male heirs got wiped out so the family name is dead, but the blood likely continues matriarchally and through bastards.
@@mochalotte4702 A bastard who carries blood of velaryon house in his veins and got legitimised by royal decree. He was the legal heir to the drift mark.
Lord of driftmark during GLASH OF KINGS was lord monford velaryon. He was killed during battle of the blackwater. Lord monford velaryon's son monterys velaryon is the current lord of the driftmark in current GOT time line.
@@mochalotte4702 tf you on about there is young Lord Monterys Velaryon, Master of Driftmark
If their blood is like ten percent of a person's lineage dose that really makes them targarion
The Hightowers are still there. Still wealthy and powerful. Just not as closely aligned with the crown as they were in F&B
lots of lore I didn't know of, nice vid! subbed
Bro just plagiarized word for word “the world of ice and fire”
And I’m here ready for a great video as always
im so glad i found your vids again!
Amazing man!! Keep these coming pls 🙏 ❤
Garth is a green man. Garth the green. Green men have antlers as seen on HotD recently. Knights of the green hand like the manderlys originally from the reach
Even more so when you say about the living wooden throne. A weirdwood. Garth probably helped plant most of thr godswoods. Greenmen and greenseers go into thr weirdwood network, kinda like blood raven
I think so too. He was either a Green Man or a human/COTF hybrid. Maybe all the Green Men are in fact human/COTF hybrids.
@@zefft.f4010 green men are the male counterparts to the cotf. Ususlly described as tall and slender with antlers and or hooves. Believe the faces on the weirwood trees are green men. Greenseers being hybrids between humans and cotf race. Green men still exist likely on the isle of faces by harrenhal hence you saw one in season 2 hotd and rhe subtitles even read hooves trotting
@@zefft.f4010 oh and probably a few other places in the wider world like Leng
You did a really good job with this... I've read all this stuff... but some of the information you present took me by surprise and I had to go looking for your sources. So much of this stuff just flies by unnoticed as we read through the different chapters - but you really sifted through, collected, categorized and presented this information in a way that makes it a little bit easier to remember. I was a little dismayed that you didn't cover the North... but I guess there aren't any extinct great houses up there just yet. This is only the 2nd of your videos I've seen... but I've subscribed so I won't miss out on your future works. Thanks for putting this out there.
House Tyrell descends from Andals.
House Tyrell was founded by an Andal and claim descent from Garth Greenhand through the female Gardener line. Being an Andal house and being descended from the First Men of the Age of Heroes are not mutually exclusive.
LFG!!!! Ive been waiting for this BANGER. Dude never misses
Also The Grey King slaying "Nagga" is likely a shipwreck as a result of a massive tidal wave. His ship was made of weirdwood trees, which is why they are often mistaken for bones.
Amazing content. Thank you.
especially the parts that are incorrect
im confused was this not about houses that was destroyed and no longer exist? house Hightower exist was never destroyed and are completely fine. Margery is the granddaughter of the lord Hightower. one of his sons tried to marry Elia Martell. Gerold Hightower was and kings guard and the uncle I think og the lord
The Hightower's "Ancestors" were the Great Empire of the Dawn. They were dragon riders, as evidenced by the Five Forts in Essos and the Battle Isle below the Hightower being made of fused black stone (which can only be created using dragonfire). I believe they were cutting down weirwoods and practicing blood magic to expand their empire. Which is why the First Men and the Children banded together, why they created the white walkers, and why they arranged "the pact", it was to rid Westeros of dragons and the Great Empire.
I like your voice and watching this as a video makes it more approachable then reading on the subjects in question. But could it be, that you took some passages word for word from the wiki?
This is from the wiki: "The Casterlys disappeared from history during the Age of Heroes, having been replaced by House Lannister. Legends claim that the Andal adventurer Lann the Clever tricked Casterly Rock from the Casterlys, although his methods vary in different stories"
And it matches quite nicely with your words around 24:57
Most of the Houses mentioned haven't really been destroyed, just heavily diminished or no longer heavily connected politically. And this video didn't even cover the Vale nor the North, and there are a lot more material there. Would be interesting to see a part 2.
Amazing keep going , waitin for more videos about dune too !!
a video about the great houses that aren't around. yet the beginning is all about the kings after garth greenhand.
the opening screen map, what is it called? i would love to find out
J.E. Fullerton made the map from what i can tell
Pretty sure the tyrells are not decended from garth green hand which is why most of the older houses of the reach were upset they became the lord paramounts
How curious. These houses lasted for centuries or even millenia, but suddenly fell to the edge of extinction or went extinct because they suddenly they lost a single conflict. Game of thrones is the most dangerous game indeed.
Is this who walked around the tree in Deamon's vision when he touched the tree?
you forgot the house Reyne in the Westerlands. It was destroyed by Tywin Lannister.
It wasn’t a rumor it was blatantly obvious those weren’t Laenor’s sons. Yes he was gay but that’s not a real excuse.
It's insane you have 3k subs and all your videos have 75k+ views except this one. High quality videos, quality over quantity, keep it up, because once you have a bit of a back catalogue people will be able to start binging and they'll be way more likely to subscribe. Also make sure to remind people to subscribe, because apparently it makes a huge difference, and you definitely deserve it.
helps getting likes if you know what you're talking about. some of these houses aren't extinct.
Why was House Hightower mentioned if it wasn't destroyed? I kept waiting for the shoe to drop. 🤣
People for get the blackwood where one of the great houses befor the stark , the Starks won the war in the north and drove them away and they left to the river lands.
And people forget in the books they talk about the old kingdoms behind the wall who were bigger then the houses that we know now in got, so wat happened to them nobody knows, one of the series that was canceled would go about it, i think it was the one with naomi watts. it would have the fall of those kingdoms, the long night and the building of the wall.
Garth sounds a lot like a green man to me. Green skin, green hands and antlers. It's exactly how green men are described. Amazing how deep the world of ASOIAF is isn't it??
The Velaryons are still the rulers of Driftmark, GOT just excluded them.
I think House Redwyne is pronounced House "Red-Wine" not "Red-Win"
So halfway through the video,he forgets the topic?
That HOTD Spoiler!!
Don't worry he didn't told the whole ending 😅😂
The Hightowers aren’t extinct either.
Fell asleep to this. Dreamed of Natalie Dormer.
Is this AI? if it is it's really good 😮
Like i know its pretty sick.....but you think the targarion kings at times would have breed their daughters like cattle making sure they ended up connected to evey house through marriage and you would think the more targarions the more dragons....seems like there was only enough dragons for how many targarions there was at the time, if it was me i would have tried to breed a army of 100 targarions riding 100 dragons and placing them spread out all over the realm so that no house needed a standing army and everything was done through courts sort of thing. Yes there would be infighting and stuff between the targarion dragon riders but come on its not like it didn't happen between the other families anyway.....the other thing i don't get is that they had scorpions at the time you think every house would have them since the conquest of agon since they would work against dragons and men . In the wars we don't see catapults or anything you think at the sege or river run they would be trying to bring down the walls
Ps dose Garth remind anyone of samwel tarly .....he might have just been a smart dude with a plan who went and got the first men knowing there was going to be a war against the whites and death in the future and humans were the key to defeating them along with the fire in targarions and the ice in the starks
great video but half of these houses aren't destroyed lol

If Martin had spent time writing the actual books instead of all this backstory bullshit the series might actually be finished
Worldbuilding is not bullshit
The actual books wouldn't feel so well thought-out if he didn't have all this backstory bullshit. Tolkien spent the majority of his life writing four books, and we didn't even get the Silmarillion until after he died. Just appreciate that Martin has chosen to spend most of his life writing this world for you, very few authors have that kind of dedication to any one project.
Obviously there's a bit of hyperbole there and he doesn't owe us anything, relax.
@@kenon6968 not the retraction LOL
30:00 The books were written prior to modern woke nonsense. :D
9:31 Aegon didn't win the dance.
Yes he did and ruled for a bit after that then died
The extensive detail you provide here is very good, it however is lost with your non reflective dronning monotone. I mean it's so bland and flat you might as just read the world book your self because at least in that case you can give the text some flavor and character because this guy is allergic to it.
