I dont think the rest of the AFL realise how much NMFC has grown in 2024, and how much our new recruits will add to the club. I think 2025 will be fun for me, because we will improve A LOT, and virtually everyone else will be shocked and surprised.
Longmire, Carey and McKernan were a potent forward line that held the ball in the forward half and generated winning scores. Larkey, Darling and Teakle might build something similar, with a bunch of talented mid-fielders also kicking goals. Our defense looks stronger and better, the mid-field looks elite and now our forwards look taller and stronger. Across the field the talent looks mighty competitive in 2025.

I believe North can build on something this year though. 2024 was a year that could have been, but wasn't. 2025 on the other hand is a year that can be and should. It's honestly that simple and it's not to say there's lofty expectations every year there's expectations. It's this year though where it's no longer a line in a sand for North it's high time to push back and say to the comp "no. You move".
I've been a supporter since 1977, member since 2014. If we go back to the past and look at he dismal performances prior to 1975 Grandfinal win the club was not doing well at all. OK the VFL opening the door for clubs to be able to recruit from interstate did help, but there was no draft - the players were recruited on merit. From then on the club grew and dominated the 90s. Sure there was another lull - the almost mergers with other clubs (pressured by the AFL coz they had an ulterior motive), but again the club perservered. To me this looks like the start of another surge upwards much like the 70s. Only this time we need to stay up the top. North has never been a 'glamour" club - like Pies or Bombers - where every young player dreamed playing for growing up - but the club has always been there and always been open. John "Sammy" Newman once commented, back on the Footy Show days, that North was the most Honest club in the league. From the outside looking in this still is the case. The club has always been straight with media and never fell on its laurels and kept saying - "Oh next year...." Other teams have had their ups and downs, but it's easier to be down when the governing authority is behind you and much harder when they're not. Your thoughts?

In recent years this has been through the acquisition of Clarko as head coach, and the resignings of so many key players particularly this season. The buy in is real, and I truly believe we will see drastic improvement in 2025 but of course there is a small part of doubt in myself and I am sure many of us, simply because we have been at the bottom for so long. But the competition is as even now as it has ever been and that can either work for OR against us. Excited for us to take destiny into our own hands and go at it once again!
Love your work Marnie, feels like I have been listening to your talk about North for years now and loving every minute. I would have to agree 2025 will be a pivotal year for the club and I am hoping for it to go the way we want it too. it's been a really difficult 10 years for North fans, and we should get rewarded for our commitment and more bluntly the suffering. The first few rounds of the season are really important, got to get wins and be competitive in all matches otherwise we are in for another long season. I also think it would be great to not be thought of as this little struggling club, need to show the world what we stand for and what it means to be North Melbourne. And if we were to get 8 plus wins, thats basically every 3rd game is a win. Will be a strange feeling to win that often. But definitely think thats what we should aim for.

It’s a pretty tough first nine weeks fixture wise so if we can just embrace that and rise to the challenge then it would give the entire club a boost - internally and externally. I’m excited… a win every three games is a dream at this point but totally achievable

That is until we are the powerhouse everybody dreads. Like do you see us playing all home games at Marvel eventually or continuing to sell some? As it's right next to the new Arden station, I would love to see a return to glory for Arden Street oval. Like 20-25k seat small stadium would awesome for most interstate teams fixtures.
Tassie fans are okay. Completely understandable. North will always be my first team. 2025 is the time to deliver. We need to stick it to some people. eg Damien 'North is a broken club' Barrett. I am quietly confident. Seeing the work the youngsters have put in already this off season. We also had a very good trade period. Parker, Darling and Daniel are the experience and skillset we needed. And yes it is short term, which is why we got Whitlock now. It covers the development of W Dawson, B George, and T Goad. In two years those players should be good to go. I see the plan, and i think the players do as well. The tanks will be a bit better this year, the fitness levels of our experienced recruits will help us run out games. And I expect to see Clarko demanding more. Go Roos.
2025 has to be a pivotal year. it's also the 50th anniversary since our first flag win. I Wont be surprised in 2025 if we go close to what Hawthorn did in 2024. We just need a bit of luck and string a few wins together and confidence can start to skyrocket
Huge huge expectations needed for our club. Im not expecting finals off the bat but if we didnt land in 11th, 10th or 9th (come end of 2025 season) which is absolutely in our hands and capabilities as a club than its a failure and I want heads rolling starting with our hierarchy and our coach in Allister. If he (Clarko) hasnt got our boys firing in the 1st half.....I dare say he needs to be shown the door due to having everything needed at his disposal (and having less at Hawthorn to get them going). Its time as a club we acted big and perform as a club throughout the season. Destiny is in our hands and rightly said Marnie. Its time for us to step up and be counted. 9th to 11th - Successful Season (Making Finals even an added bonus if we finished 8th or higher). Finishing 12th or below.....I see it as a failure. Thats my view on it.
