Thank you. The dealer wanted $199 to replace all 6 bulbs and I bought a pack of 12 from Amazon for $8.99! I wanted to see how to take the lenses off the lights without breaking them on a brand new one day old Ascent! This is exactly what I hoped it would be.
Thank you for this video. I gotta say that this is how this type of information video should be made. Short and simple and only talk about the important stuff. Lots of people talk lots of nonsense in their video that I just loose my patience and stop watching.
NICE JOB! I don't currently own a Subaru, but am very interested in test driving the all new 2020 Subaru Outback when it comes to market. The XT model of course!
So all 6 reading lights (the two dome lights up front, and lights in 2nd and 3rd row) along with the cargo light...all take the same bulb? Also...did you do cool white or natural white, and did you change the vanity lights or leave them stock?
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert That light on the cargo door, I just noticed it doesn't come stock with the Ascent, could you help with how to install and what parts to buy?
Now do the 2024 Ascent where they use a non-replaceable integrated LED and that the color temperature doesn't match the rest of the LED's they installed in the car. What the absolute heck is that about.
Definitely shoot Subaru feedback about that (they'd rather hear it directly from you all than relayed from me - though I will send them similar feedback). Next time I get a chance, I will dig into the 2024 and see if anything can be done.
Thanks for the tip Robert, I need to replace my interior lamps also. My ascent didn't come with a cargo hatch lamp, can this be added with a stock or third party fixture without great difficulty?
Hi John, it's a third party JDM part. SubiSpeed sells them, but they take forever, and, their orders are generally delayed, sometimes months. Nonetheless, I love it. As for installation, that's "easy" but somewhat time consuming and tedious. You will need trim removal tools (they're pretty cheap on Amazon, and a screwdriver and socket wrench. The light just gets spliced into the side cargo light, which means pulling all of the covers on the hatch, and part of them on the cargo area, routing the wires, extending them a bit (it's for a Forester, so, the wires are about 6" too short) and then plug in the harness they provide.
I just bought a 2024 Ascent. My dog hits the rear dome light with his head causing it to turn on. Can you snip off the pin on th e front of the cover to prevent the light from coming on? Or, is there a better way to resolve this problem, I was also wondering if you have the part number for the cover should I want to replace the "snipped" one?
Great video! Super useful! Quick question - did you end up doing the door "puddle" lights? Any tricks for getting them to turn off before you change them?
Changing the bulbs went very smoothly except for the driver’s side front overhead console. The original bulb was very hard to get out, the new LED was also very tight to install and pushed the lamp socket into the socket housing and disappeared. Of course the driver side, go figure!! Do you have any suggestions?
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert The bulbs I'm using are GRV T10 Wedge 921 194 25-35289 SMD LED, all of the bulbs but one have been replaced without trouble. The front drivers side was really tight to remove and I tried to install the new LED it pushed the socket back into the housing.
I was changing mine and the rear bulb pushed up into the headliner. I can’t find anything online on how to remove that whole piece to get the socket and out. Do I need to remove the whole headliner?
You should be able to *carefully* remove the Eyesight cover and flex the headliner a little bit to make it fall out - just make sure you don't accidentally create another issue by dropping it into your vents. I'd cover the defrost vents before trying.
No, not really, but, the black cover behind it is a glasses holder. When you press it and let go, it pops out as either a mirror or glasses holder, depending on how you press.
@@SubaruAmbassadorRobert That would be amazing, it was the power cable. I was able to to retrieve it by taking apart the panel, but cant seem to figure out how to connect it back
Ok, I will see if I can record that part. It's pretty easy once you realize the tricks. (1) Straighten the pins on the fixture to align with the holes in the plug socket. (2) Figure out which direction the socket goes into the fixture. I had the same issue until I realized what was preventing the plug from seating.

Incredibly helpful. You just saved me $140 that Subaru was going to charge me to replace the bulb! Thank you
So glad it helped!!!

Do you have the link to the amazon Listing plz.
Sorry, I should have mentioned that you need to order the "white" color. Tom. @@rizwanholo1

Glad it was helpful! And, yes, I try to organize the info and just drop what's needed. I prefer it that way too. :-)

These instructions worked well.

Much appreciated

Correct. Same with the four puddle lights in the bottoms of each door.
Great video! The light on the cargo door, is it the same 194 bulb?
Thanks! Sure is! So are the four puddle lights for the undersides of the doors.

Hi, that would actually work, and is probably the least destructive way to solve the issue.
Great video! Super useful! Quick question - did you end up doing the door "puddle" lights? Any tricks for getting them to turn off before you change them?
Alas, no tricks to turning them off other than disconnecting the battery. I replaced them with "Subaru" projectors instead of bulbs.
Where did you find projector lights that fit the Ascent?

Which bulbs did you get? Wiggling them out in the correct direction seems to work, but it's not quite the direction it seems.

Good info but the camera not being focused on what you worked on is annoying
Yep, agreed! This was done ages ago, before I had better gear for in car filming. I am thinking of redoing it if I can find the time.

I think I got them on Amazon.
Is there a way to remove that upper section to add a sunglass holder with the lights instead of the speaker??

Can you use syvania mini 194 for a 2021 Subaru Ascent Touring?
I haven't tried them. Sorry.
How about the vanity light?
I think I need to redo that vid, I will make sure I cover the vanity light as well. I am not sure why the manual doesn't cover it.
The light in the cargo area of my Ascent, became unplugged. Could you show me how to plug it back in? I cant seem to line it up
Sure, I can make a video later for you. Was it the power cable you're having issues with or clipping the fixture back into place?

Where can you buy the prying tool?
It's a cheap trim tool kit from Amazon. Most auto parts stores will carry kits as well.
you should never touched the LED chips with your bare hands
You're thinking halogen bulbs.
