Got my CSR and it’s so nice getting 1.5CPP for basic travel. I’m sick and tired of wasting hours looking for award flights to be limited by dates, locations, waitlists, and overall transfer headaches.
One thing too is the lifetime amex card offer versus the reserve 48 month limit. Also Amex makes you get the cards in order first Green, then Gold, finally platinum if u want the sign up bonuses
This year I will be out of the Sapphire 48 month rule. Still debating if I want the Reserve or not. TBH I probably will end up getting it because of the SUB and the 1.5cpp on travel portal. But im sad that the priority pass restaurant benefit will be gone by the time I get it.
Absolutely. Yeah that Priority Pass Restaurant benefit ending is definitely a big knock. The 1.5cpp can still make a lot of sense especially for domestic travel though. Thanks for watching Chase!
Great video. I enjoy the access to the lounge in my home airport and the peace of mind of the CSR’s travel insurance as well as the broad 3x travel category. I wish they would up the dining to 4x but Chase cards are mandated to have 3x I think.
Thanks so much John! And nice! If there is a Chase Sapphire Lounge in your home airport, that can absolutely be a huge reason to go for it! The travel protections are the best in the business as well!
Yess! Big Daddy Platinum is the best!! You have the Chase Sapphire Preferred so you've got those Chase transfer partners covered. Also with all that international travel, the Platinum is going to be good as you (hopefully) get to increase the frequency of your trips year over year. Great video Matt!
Exactly! Platinum definitely makes more sense to me, especially as I increase that travel frequency and get more use out of things like lounge benefits. Thanks so much for watching Stan!
Since Chase remove Priority Pass restaurants the only reason I have for keeping CSR is because Chase Sapphire lounge is in my home airport. Otherwise, Capital One Venture X Business has more appeal for Priority Pass restaurants. Now if only there were Capital One lounges in Boston and Tampa. C1VX Business would be good for Seattle PP airport restaurants
Great point Michael! Makes sense if you travel a lot why you'd keep the CSR for now with a Sapphire Lounge at your home airport. Hopefully, you get a Centurion Lounge or maybe even a Capital One Lounge to give you some more justification to be able to cancel the CSR haha. Thanks so much for watching!
I’m considering the VXB for primary CDW. My Ink Preferred earns 3x UR for travel like the CSR does but its CDW is secondary for personal trips. I could get a CSP for primary CDW and keeping my 2x points in the UR family, but its net annual fee compared to the VXB means I don’t break even until over $2000/year of rental car spending, and as a personal card it impacts 5/24. I suppose I could assume the VX/VXB *must* be getting a big fee increase, as some believe, and thus the entire argument is moot. I know, first world problems.
do you have a Chase-issued Marriott card? product change to Ritz Carlton card, and get in for a lower annual fee (with unlimited guests) and an 85k MB FNC.
@@jwil4286 outdated information. Chase removed Ritz Carlton Priority Pass restaurant June 30, 2024. Capital One Venture X gives unlimited guests to lounges and effective AF-$5. Chase Ritz Carlton AF $450.
It honestly works for me due to the fact that I go on short trips like twice a year but I have a huge yearly trip back to South Africa which chase ecosystem helps a lot on it. I thought about the Amex Plat before the CSR but my gold card is unusable overseas so I stayed with chase
Thanks for the 🎥! I travel once per month and this card still doesn’t make sense for me. I have enough UR points, and I have never used the chase travel portal for flights. I find greater value with the free night certificate offered thru my 2 Ritz cards
Thanks so much Key! Totally makes sense. The CSR definitely isn't worth the hefty fee without the Portal, and the Ritz Card is super underrated and I personally plan to get it soon!
It's funny how so many people on TH-cam are avoiding the card. I just downgraded my Preferred so I'm open to get another Sapphire card, but I have too many cards with travel credits that I don't think I'd actually be able to use them all.
Yeah you definitely want to take a look at your own situation and make sure they you have high confidence you’ll be utilizing the Credits on whichever Cards you decide to go for. I’ve actually seen a lot of TH-camrs high on the CSR lately! Thanks for watching Mason!
Another great video Matt. I am based overseas and do travel internationally at least five to ten times a year. Do you think booking through the chase portal can be tiresome with many different connecting flights? Just wondering if I should get the CSP or CSR. Thanks.
Thanks so much Paul! Especially for international travel, I always recommend going with travel partners as much as you can, which would give the CSP a solid opportunity to be the better option with the same travel partner availability. However, I can see how the simplicity for booking travel through the portal could be beneficial as well especially with how often you travel. My recommendation- take a look at all your past trips and how many of them you think realistically would make sense to book through the Chase Travel Portal. If you come to the conclusion that you’d book 2-3 or more per year, then I think the 50% higher value on the CSR would give you enough value to make it worth it. Thanks so much for your support!
Card turned to trash over night and unless they revamp it in the next couple months mine getting downgraded to the CSP. Adding some type of status with Hyatt or a United club membership would be enough to keep me though!
Fully agree with this take. The insurance is best in game so I’d probably add some value for that but it just doesn’t pencil out for most West Coasters. Idk if 1.5X is the reason people like the card they’d really be better off with USBAR anyway…
That's a totally fair assessment! Obviously the insurances are great if that's really important, but not sure if it's really worth the cost. In a lot of cases, the USBAR might be the better choice.
Great breakdown Matt!! Its a great card for the right person. Im a Delta fan myself and my home airport only has a SkyClub. Im right there with you about the Reserve not being right for me, but it can have great value for the right person.
Totally agree with you Jon! I think the CSR works best for someone who both travels domestically really frequently/wants the consistent 50% higher value to book Travel through the Chase Portal & someone who has a Chase Sapphire Lounge at their home airport. I unfortunately don't fall under either category, and it's why the CSR just isn't a good fit for me. Thanks so much for watching!
I’ve decided to go with chase since they are building one in my home airport and domestic travel over the next 5 years. Plus I like renting cars so that primary insurance would be great. Multiplers do suck but it’s seems like the 1.5x I’ll get will be worth more then 3% I get from capital one.
Absolutely! In your situation, it totally makes sense why you'd prioritize Chase & the CSR specifically. Frequent Domestic Travel + a Sapphire Lounge in your home airport is the perfect storm for the CSR being worth it. Thanks for watching!
Yep we’re in the same boat! I want cards that I know I’m getting more value than the AF, and the CSR would effectively cost $250. I’d rather get the same benefits with the Ritz card but also get a free night for a cheaper price. For me the CSR is by far the worst of the 3 premium cards, but it’s different for everyone!
Completely agree! The $300 Travel Credit is great and all, but everything else just doesn't make up for the effective $250 portion! Thanks so much for watching Cody!
So many people complaining about the pp restaurants going away but nobody ever visited those. You only hear about people going to actual lounges. Now all of a sudden people are losing their minds for something they never liked smh.

I’ve had PP restaurant access for years through various cards (CSP used to offer it back in the day, as well as many other benefits it no longer offers), and I think I’ve used it twice (definitely once in Denver and maybe once in London). It’s a great benefit, but I won’t miss it, and I definitely wouldn’t cancel a card simply for removing that benefit. People just want something to cry about. I hope CSR makes up for it in some way. The card seems to need a bit of refreshing. That said, I’m keeping mine.
