If you planned that out for both domestic and int'l travel partners, you did well. If it is for travel, you could solo w/ C1 and use the Alliance for a few domestic carriers.
Good stuff Matt! I think all of your rankings were very fair and I really still loved how you maximized your wedding for FNCs at Waldorfs haha. I’m with you on closing that Hilton Business and keeping the surpass. Great video as always Matt!
The Hilton Business card is indeed a worse version of the Surpass card now. Such an L when that card was updated! Great list Matt! Fun to see how you ranked all your cards!
@@MattWelterOfficialI actually liked the Hilton Business card. It was my first business card and I have used the bonus points for two trips using points. I am 5/24 but annual fees don't bother me if it fits my lifestyle for any card and business annual fees are tax deductible. I take advantage of the elevated offers and still have over 100k points.
It's not a bad card with minus $45 EAF and 5x on everything, but it was taking a slot in my Amex setup, so I cancelled it and replaced with a personal Hilton card. I now have 4 personal Hilton cards, and all of them will be converted to Aspire.
Great video Matt! It's great to hear that you were able to maximize those Hilton FNAs for your honeymoon, I've been wondering whether I should hold off on signing up for those cards until I have a larger trip planned because of their lifetime language, or if I should start the clock for the Hilton upgrade ladder. Definitely a difficult decision for me!
Thank you Kevin! I think starting the clock when there’s a higher limited time offer, especially the ones with a FNC attached make sense. Then of course you have the upgrade opportunities and ability to get multiple different offers.
Great video and card selection. Learned something new for sure. You might want to make another video for people in simple mode or people who just don’t want to deal with the myriad of e.g. Amex credits. Not for simple mode, you could also consider the transfer bonus of chase points (often 30%) and other cards. This can mix up the 1.5 vs. 2 points ranking. For simple mode, the most complex for some users might be dealing with venture x style credits and maybe one free annual night. In such a ranking, the chase cards would probably rank a little higher. I was such a simple user before, and some people simply have a busy life. 😊 thank you for the video!
Great video. I agree with most of your rankings. For me personally I would move Amex Gold to S tier since you do use it for everyday spend with groceries and dining out, with the CSP i would move it A tier I value being able to transfer to SW. I would move the Hilton Surpass to A tier because I feel lts more valuable than the base hilton card between the SUB and the multipliers.
Think it’s a good list as far as I know. The Amex gold is probably where it should be if you were already someone who was using it and keeping it (unless you use that credit strictly for shake shack). Sapphire preferred is definitely more of a low mid-tier/high low tier card as far as benefits go but primary cdw is great, and solid for a low cost 3x earner on restaurants. And for some, the freedom cards are really good because they have good multipliers, and have travel protections, and secondary cdw. the unlimited has extended warranty too. For some, that deserves a bump up
Yeah I can totally see the validity for the Freedom Cards being ranked higher! I personally would use the Amex Gold Credits for Uber Eats & Grubhub and organically use them every month so no change for me with Shake Shack removal. Thanks so much for watching!
I'm actually flying Seattle to Mexico City and then taking the cheap flight from Mexico City to Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca! I actually have not been to Chiapas or Puebla yet but I'd love to go! Appreciate you watching!
Cannot disagree with you more about the rating of the Business Gold and Hilton Business cards. For actual businesses, 4X on your top two spend categories and net $45 back on hotel stays plus 12X Hilton points on employee stays and 30X points on your stays is huge value. And that’s not even mentioning the sheer purchasing power of the Business Gold because it’s a charge card.
@@MattWelterOfficial you have me intrigued with the IHG on the business side. I am looking at the business side now more than personal since I have 20 cards and 4 are business and 2 are Fintech cards
Good comparison! I'm not yet as savy as you in the credit card game. Ive inquired with you before and your past advise about the Hilton Aspire card has been helpful! Do you like Hilton more than other hotels? Also, why haven't you pulled the trigger to get the Aspire?
Thanks so much David! In terms of my actual experience I'd honestly rate Hilton as #1. The reason I haven't gotten the Aspire yet just comes down to my own travel preferences, I'm typically traveling around to different cities when my schedule allows, and am more so spreading out my points for as much travel as possible ( I don't stay at resorts as much). I think that'll change in the future but that's the justification for why I haven't gotten the Aspire yet. Appreciate you watching!
@@newagain9964 I would agree with that if the Surpass didn’t exist. Carbon copy for the most part and has the 15K spend. To be fair, I know most won’t do that, but I’d rather have the option than not.
Hey Matt, I might have missed it, but do you have a video that goes more in-depth on why you canceled the Hilton Business card? I think I want to cancel mine and I need confirmation I'm making the right decision lol
Hey Jacob- I don’t have a specific video for it but essentially there was too much crossover for me having both the Surpass & Biz card at the same time. I ultimately felt the surpass was better and that’s why I decided to cancel the Biz. Appreciate you watching!
@@MattWelterOfficial makes sense! I remember you saying that. I think the Surpass is definitely the better choice and I might need to pick up a Surpass one of these days

Yeah that’s a fair point JP. I personally don’t use either the CFU or CIU much anymore, so the much higher welcome bonus weighed the CIU higher for me. Plus I still use the CIU for editing service and other biz expenses. Thanks for watching!
@@newagain9964 Agreed, but purely a demo card. For example, few Dunkin Donuts and cheesecake factories in PacNWest, although offset somewhat by Resy and Uber. The 325 AF is the real turnoff.
