Shanks' really saw his life's work eaten by a weird goofy kid who was the Son of the Revolutionary Army's Leader and the Grandson of the Hero of the Marines.
Mind you, Oda and reframing events are pretty common, but two things I like: 1) Shanks calling it the "Gum Gum" fruit because he still didn't want to panic Luffy *too* much with the fact he just ate *THE SUN GOD* fruit 2) Shanks having enough time to stop Kaido and make it back to Marineford means that The Beast pirates were almost there already. Cutting it close on that one!

Has anyone addressed how Shanks knew it was the "rubber" fruit when Vegapunk revealed there is no information on that fruit in any books? The Gorosei said the fruit always slipped their grasps so it was known about just not in the books, Shanks figured out what it looked like and what it was somewhere, finding out how he figured it out will be interesting.
The only reason Luffy called it the Gum-Gum fruit was because the Red Hair Pirates told him that's what it was called. They could have lied about it outright and with nothing to contradict them Luffy (and the readers) just had to assume it was true.
I think shanks knew about the fruit from roger. If I’m not wrong he was with roger at laugh tale, apparently roger learned about the void century. (joyboys era) roger wished he had lived at the same time as joyboy. (not important here but why not) it was from a poneglyph and it may have contained something about joyboys devil fruit Hito Hito Model Nika. I don’t know much about Nikas backstory, shanks found out the importance of the fruit, he sought after it when he formed his crew after hearing about the world government transporting it. I’m pretty sure he wanted to give it to ace not Luffy, but I don’t know too much about what roger wanted from the fruit other than if he wanted to eat it he would have. The world government may have known from imu, who had lived in the void century apparently. And of joyboy was a giant then it explains why imu had a giant straw hat locked away. Imu may have disliked joyboy and wanted him gone, also I’ve heard of a theory that imu is like water person and despises devil fruit users and takes away their ability to swim bla bla bla. But that explains your question, a bit more of a theory then proof though.

I firmly believe that the look of the Beast Pirates was inspired by Oda watching Vicky the Viking as a child. The main antagonist of this series, Sven the Terrible, a big, strong and fearsome guy with a black bushy beard, a horned helmet, who wields a mace weapon was clearly an inspiration for Kaido. His crew also wear horned helmets and dark leather harnesses, hence their attire. Of course, there are many other inspirations as well.
Actually the Red Hair Pirates got 12 people minimum. Rockstar is a recent recruit also there is that nameless dude hanging out with them but regardless, that is irrelevant as Shanks started with 9 crewmates, and his crew greatly mirrors the Strawhats in every single aspect tbh.

Oda has basically stated that, while Film Red is not canon to the manga, Uta's backstory is. So I think we can assume that things like Uta's friendship with Luffy and the destruction of Elegia are canon to the manga.
Uta is canonically in that same grey area as Shiki. They have vaguely been mentioned (well he has, Uta was just shown in a silhouette and tbh that is not even a guarantee to be her it's merely an educated guess) but never inserted as even one single panel of their existence would ruin Oda's meticulous lore build.
Idk man i feel that shiki can fit in the world, i just wouldn't expect him to he like he was in strong world. I feel like he should be a pirate with no purpose. kaido was kinda like this but what it boiled down to is he wanted to fight someone who was actually strong like the good old days. I have a question how do pirates that originate from the 4 oceans that enter the Grand Line return to their home ocean? We know that the Grand Line is isolated on its sides by the Calm Belts and is bisected by the Red Line. How Don Krieg returned to the East Blue always bugged me because at some point he had to have recrossed the Red Line or crossed the Calm Belt.

I'm thinking Shanks might be some kind of representation of Loki, god of mischief. In the Edda Prose, Loki is referred to as "Red Hair Loki." He was also a frost giant, not an Aesir. In addition, Loki was depicted as having had scars on his face... We've seen a great deal of influence from Norse mythology in various anime adaptions. It's probably more than a coincidence that Oda calls him "Red Hair Shanks" and he is based out of Elbaf, the land of giants.

I'm thinking Shanks might be some kind of representation of Loki, god of mischief. In the Edda Prose, Loki is referred to as "Red Hair Loki." He was also a frost giant, not an Aesir. In addition, Loki was depicted as having had scars on his face... We've seen a great deal of influence from Norse mythology in various anime adaptions. It's probably more than a coincidence that Oda calls him "Red Hair Shanks" and he is based out of Elbaf, the land of giants.

I feel that Shanks let Kaido in on the notion of Luffy's potential for the future. That Luffy would rise in power to give him a proper battle for dominance. Perhaps even name dropping Joyboy as a proper enticement.
