Tip for everyone: Save some reference sheets of the characters you want to attack early (do not draw them early) that way you don’t have to deal with the mess that is artfight during the first week. I actually started a Target list where I have the characters linked that I want to focus on! I have those characters references saved and in a folder so that way I can start drawing on the first day without issues!
Since I just figured out Art Fight existed fairly recently, I doubt I'll be joining this year, but there's always next year! This really helped me figure out stuff about it so thank you :D

This was very useful! Normally these videos try to explain things with the idea that the audience somehow already knows something that they don’t, so I’m glad to see a tutorial that goes over the absolute basics for someone who’s having their first artfight (like me).

Im so glad it helped! A revenge attack creates an attack-chain with the other person and links the artwork together that you drew with what they drew and vice versa. The attack chain links are found beneath any art that is a link in that chain, for example: artfight.net/attack/730908.sisters this is a piece I did that is a link in an attack chain with MementoMoriAL 💖 under my artwork description is a section called Revenge chain (marking this particular art as Level: 3 in the chain) and shows clickable thumbnails of the link before and after it in the chain. A normal defense or attack wont have a revenge chain section but thats the only real difference :)

Type in ArtFight.net/~ and after the squiggly mark put their ArtFight name. For example to find me on the site you would type: ArtFight.net/~perrypictures
Whever I try to make the OC it isn't working and says : The has image filters field is required fix, An error occurred while trying to create this character, Please fill in the image source's information. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
if its an image error, the issue might be the size of the file. I'd recommend making a copy of the artwork then scaling that down and saving it (without changing your original) . with the smaller copy try uploading that. Hope this helps!
I'm struggling with how to do the selecting thing, it says I can choose more than one when I clicked edit, but it's not letting me. How do I choose more than one photo on main?
When you first create a character you submit it with just one image, but then you can edit a character by clicking edit next to their name on the right side. On the edit screen - you can switch over to edit images by clicking the images tab. Scroll down and on the bottom of that screen you can add more photos 🥰
Thanks for the tutorial! But when I try to submit a attack a pop up comes up and says "at least one character must belong to the recipient." Like...im pretty sure I filled everything out correctly
It sounds like the character ID number, and the Players name, belong to different people… 🤔 Maybe the player name is really similar to another players name and it’s mismatching the two? or it might be possible the player hid the character after you looked at it and now the attack form can’t find that character. In this case, what I’ve seen people do is attack another of that players character ID numbers and explain in the description you drew their other OC before they took it down
Question! How do you attack someone with a video/animation? Im planning to make an attack for multiple OCs in one video with music n such, how do submit that attack into the website?
The Animation attack guide is here: artfight.net/info/animation the few that I've done personally were all gifs so I could submit them like any other attack, but I've seen others upload preview animation gifs and link in the description to the full video with audio hosted somewhere else (like youtube, vimeo, tiktok etc). You can still enter your description for the full animation to get full points even if the attack itself is off site.
So do the themes not really matter (like steampuck vs cyberpunk)? Are they just titles of your teams or do u have to draw your things based on your team name
It is currently off-season, the submit attack button appears from July 1 to July 31 each year 😄 you can update your profile and submit and edit your own characters all year long though in preparation for the next ArtFight in July 🎉 hope to see you for the next one!
I have a question! So I have 2 characters that are mine, and my boyfriend has 2 characters that are his. The only difference is that he doesn't do art, but I do. I also draw all of our reference sheets. I was wondering if I can upload his characters to my Art Fight account alongside my characters, and credit him for his 2 characters? If so, where could I credit him properly? I mainly am doing this so people can hopefully draw his characters or mine ! tysm! ^^
I’ve done this in the past with my husbands Pokémon trainer and mine, i think as long as you credit the artist (yourself) and explain that you two are basically sharing the characters as part of the same universe I don’t think you’d run into any issues. If he has a social media account that he would like to see credited, you can link it in the character description
When you first post your character ArtFight creates them with the one image (plus thumbnail) but to add more images after go to edit character, click the image tab, (and scroll down if it’s not on screen) to the area for adding more images. You can add up to 6 total references per character and each can have a custom thumbnail. Make sure to save all changes before reviewing the character page. When selecting the main image and the thumbnail in the editor- the main image will be represented by its thumbnail but will display as the full image when visitors click on that character. I hope this helps! ☺️

There’s a couple ways to reduce file size if your refs are over 5mb. One is to save without using transparency (if you were) You can also save out copies as jpgs to make the file smaller, or as you mentioned, reducing your canvas size. I typically like to use printer paper proportions for Art Fight at 11” by 8.5” (mostly for attacks) in case players want to print them out but you could also use that for your ref sheets too.
I was trying to make an account for artfight when the new one came out but it gave me some trouble so I decided to try again but it’s still giving me trouble. Everytime I try to login or register it says ‘an error occurred while trying to load this page’ with something about a debug. Any ideas how to fix that or what’s wrong?
I’ve seen that screen before when there’s too much traffic to the website and the servers are overwhelmed, but I haven’t seen it since the first two days of AF this year… if you’re using the same email as the previous ArtFight, perhaps try using a different email. If it’s not the same then maybe it’s a traffic issue which usually goes away with a little bit of time. I hope you’re able to get registered soon!

Great question 😊 If you select and copy their hyperlinked name from anywhere it’s clickable on the website then paste what’s on your clipboard into a comment it will tag them
Relatable 💕 Bookmarking sometimes means saving characters from people who aren’t returning that year, unfortunately. Means we Just have to check they sort into teams before we start drawing ✨
It helps 😊 you could always draw art for others as an attack even if you don’t have a character for them to attack back, but if you do have one it’s nice for other players to see and get a chance to draw for you
Hello, to change your PFP go to your profile page, click on edit next to your user name, then under the user/site tab you can edit your avatar. They need to be 100x100 pixels or smaller
One reason may be the file size. I know I had one drawing over 5mb and it wouldn’t let me submit it until I saved a smaller copy. Check the size of the file to make sure it’s small enough. Also it should be “submit attack” for attacks and “submit character” for characters so it might sound silly but make sure you’re selecting “attack” from the +Submit drop down menu before filling in your art form. I’m not sure why else it may be rejected unless there’s a section not filled out with an asterisk, so definitely check for those too
Can you be more specific with your question? Are you asking if I’m ok with being in a mass attack, are you asking how to submit a mass attack? Happy to help just need more info 😊
That’s a really good question! And a little tough to answer before the option to submit opens on July 1st. I’ll try to create a video example of that asap but in the meantime what I do have that could help is this video th-cam.com/video/foPT4_67i1U/w-d-xo.html of a “mass attack” I did in 2020. The most important part is to attach each characters ID number to the art when you submit it (I don’t think you edit and can add characters to the submission afterwards so be careful to add them all in the beginning). as a POC myself I include diversity in a lot of my work. The original looks a little greenish hue and the wardrobe is very medieval Englishman so I tried to draw a semi realism of how I felt this specific character would look. The OP who owns the character liked my version and wrote “This looks So Good excuse me??? Absolutely in love with the textures/brushes you used aaaaaaa” which is what matters most.

For the main image of a character, Is it just a drawing of the character or is it the reference sheet you put there?
It’s up to you, either one works just depends on your preference

It sounds like the character ID number, and the Players name, belong to different people… 🤔 Maybe the player name is really similar to another players name and it’s mismatching the two? or it might be possible the player hid the character after you looked at it and now the attack form can’t find that character. In this case, what I’ve seen people do is attack another of that players character ID numbers and explain in the description you drew their other OC before they took it down
For example, finding out wNice tutorialch notes fit into a particular chord (chords make up the basis of most soft) - you don't need to even know

Question! How do you attack someone with a video/animation? Im planning to make an attack for multiple OCs in one video with music n such, how do submit that attack into the website?
The Animation attack guide is here: artfight.net/info/animation the few that I've done personally were all gifs so I could submit them like any other attack, but I've seen others upload preview animation gifs and link in the description to the full video with audio hosted somewhere else (like youtube, vimeo, tiktok etc). You can still enter your description for the full animation to get full points even if the attack itself is off site.
Question! Do you have to make characters based off of the team theme you’re in, or can it be just any type of character?? :)
It can be any type of character new or old as long as it’s yours- it doesn’t have to match the themes 😊

So do the themes not really matter (like steampuck vs cyberpunk)? Are they just titles of your teams or do u have to draw your things based on your team name
They’re just titles for the teams, there’s no requirement to use them in your drawings 😊 though you may if you want to
When I click the submit button and press character the "submit attack" thing doesnt appear, just to submit my own characters
It is currently off-season, the submit attack button appears from July 1 to July 31 each year 😄 you can update your profile and submit and edit your own characters all year long though in preparation for the next ArtFight in July 🎉 hope to see you for the next one!

I have a question!
So I have 2 characters that are mine, and my boyfriend has 2 characters that are his. The only difference is that he doesn't do art, but I do. I also draw all of our reference sheets.
I was wondering if I can upload his characters to my Art Fight account alongside my characters, and credit him for his 2 characters? If so, where could I credit him properly?
I mainly am doing this so people can hopefully draw his characters or mine ! tysm! ^^
I’ve done this in the past with my husbands Pokémon trainer and mine, i think as long as you credit the artist (yourself) and explain that you two are basically sharing the characters as part of the same universe I don’t think you’d run into any issues. If he has a social media account that he would like to see credited, you can link it in the character description

are you allowed to have more one 1 file in main image and thumbnail ?
When you first post your character ArtFight creates them with the one image (plus thumbnail) but to add more images after go to edit character, click the image tab, (and scroll down if it’s not on screen) to the area for adding more images. You can add up to 6 total references per character and each can have a custom thumbnail. Make sure to save all changes before reviewing the character page. When selecting the main image and the thumbnail in the editor- the main image will be represented by its thumbnail but will display as the full image when visitors click on that character. There’s a submit button - that’s what Art fight calls the save button (submit changes)
if you click submit, and click character, it doesn’t say submit attack, it just lets you put your own character. how do you submit attack?

what canvas size should i use for the ref sheet? it says under 5mb but i honestly have no idea what canvas size to use for that :( sorry!
There’s a couple ways to reduce file size if your refs are over 5mb. One is to save without using transparency (if you were) You can also save out copies as jpgs to make the file smaller, or as you mentioned, reducing your canvas size. I typically like to use printer paper proportions for Art Fight at 11” by 8.5” (mostly for attacks) in case players want to print them out but you could also use that for your ref sheets too.
I was trying to make an account for artfight when the new one came out but it gave me some trouble so I decided to try again but it’s still giving me trouble. Everytime I try to login or register it says ‘an error occurred while trying to load this page’ with something about a debug. Any ideas how to fix that or what’s wrong?
I’ve seen that screen before when there’s too much traffic to the website and the servers are overwhelmed, but I haven’t seen it since the first two days of AF this year… if you’re using the same email as the previous ArtFight, perhaps try using a different email. If it’s not the same then maybe it’s a traffic issue which usually goes away with a little bit of time. I hope you’re able to get registered soon!

Great question 😊 If you select and copy their hyperlinked name from anywhere it’s clickable on the website then paste what’s on your clipboard into a comment it will tag them
Last year I did art fight and I attacked someone who was a spectator[someone who isn't playing that year] 😭
Relatable 💕 Bookmarking sometimes means saving characters from people who aren’t returning that year, unfortunately. Means we Just have to check they sort into teams before we start drawing ✨

Do you need your own character to participate?
It helps 😊 you could always draw art for others as an attack even if you don’t have a character for them to attack back, but if you do have one it’s nice for other players to see and get a chance to draw for you

help i cant submit an attack..... when i put "submit character" it doesnt let me make an attack. only make a character :(
One reason may be the file size. I know I had one drawing over 5mb and it wouldn’t let me submit it until I saved a smaller copy. Check the size of the file to make sure it’s small enough. Also it should be “submit attack” for attacks and “submit character” for characters so it might sound silly but make sure you’re selecting “attack” from the +Submit drop down menu before filling in your art form. I’m not sure why else it may be rejected unless there’s a section not filled out with an asterisk, so definitely check for those too
How do I add two or more images when I’m submitting my characters?
Add the first one when you create them, then click edit on that character to add more reference images. Remember to submit to save the changes ☺️

That’s a really good question! And a little tough to answer before the option to submit opens on July 1st. I’ll try to create a video example of that asap but in the meantime what I do have that could help is this video th-cam.com/video/foPT4_67i1U/w-d-xo.html of a “mass attack” I did in 2020. The most important part is to attach each characters ID number to the art when you submit it (I don’t think you edit and can add characters to the submission afterwards so be careful to add them all in the beginning). as a POC myself I include diversity in a lot of my work. The original looks a little greenish hue and the wardrobe is very medieval Englishman so I tried to draw a semi realism of how I felt this specific character would look. The OP who owns the character liked my version and wrote “This looks So Good excuse me??? Absolutely in love with the textures/brushes you used aaaaaaa” which is what matters most.
