As a public health researcher when we go to the field areas for data collection, we ensure the same thing. Blend with the local culture and to have the ear to understand them. The basic point as rightly mentioned by you is to "to respect the local tradition and culture". Once we do it, respect is eventually received. As a Tamilian, I have worked in the urban slums of Pune and tried to learn Marathi. I worked with male technicians and we worked as a team with the slum dwellers. The experience remains one of the best to date. Appreciate you for the efforts taken to appreciate the culture of the country you travel/live.

Maybe I was lucky but I was in India in 2018 traveling by train, bus, etc, from Mumbay to Dehradun and back to Delhi, dressing like I use to dress in Portugal and never had a problem. In fact, I allways stood in cheap hotels in poor places and I allways felt safe walking on the streets with my cameras ( of course, all compacts, never big and eyecatching cameras). Like in my country or in anycountry, with eyes wide open and never roamed after hours! But I have to agree with you, in Rome be Roman, no doubt!

Reason being, a little history. Pakhtun pathans (majority of all pathans) are made up Israelites (bani-Israel), who came to Khurasan (ancient name for Afghanistan/North Pakistan/some central asian) , way before Islam. In Gilgit baltistan, you will find a ton of Mesadonian/Greek blood due to Alexander's forces using and staying in that area for a long period. There's also Hazara Pathans, who have Mongol ancestry from Ghengis Khan. North Punjabis have Syrian, Arabic & Hanse blood in them. Hence, half of Pakistanis having fair skin and lighter eyes. Pakhtuns do not have Israeilite blood. This myth has been debunked long ago that they are one of the lost tribes of Israel. Read up on genetic studies which have proven this theory wrong. Also if you recall correctly, Jewish origin people were persecuted in Europe for looking middle eastern with different features to Europeans. Anyhow people should be judged on who they are and not by their genes. In Pakistan we don't say that people in North Punjab, KPK, Northern Areas are more valuable than people in Sind or elsewhere.

Population genetics rests on showing distinct genetic markers ( thousands of genetic markers on your mitochondrial DNA for example) that show the regional affiliation of your genome. Genetic mutation and lineage can be traced based on this. Mutations that randomly pop up in populations over thousands of years show the common lineage. Regardless of whether Jewish people were living in Europe for centuries there are these markers in Jewish people in Europe and by extension those who travelled to North America. I can provide further links if you wish but just to set yourself straight do a simple thing: Complete your own buccal DNA swab and send it off. It will settle this whole issue for you definitively. Incidentally, we all have a DNA map and it can also show multiple regional affiliations since our genome is so large and the distinct markers for population genetics are still there. Cheers.

Funny thing is, Karl actually looks like someone from the North of Pakistan.
You look good in the Salwar Kameez.
Reason being, a little history. Pakhtun pathans (majority of all pathans) are made up Israelites (bani-Israel), who came to Khurasan (ancient name for Afghanistan/North Pakistan/some central asian) , way before Islam. In Gilgit baltistan, you will find a ton of Mesadonian/Greek blood due to Alexander's forces using and staying in that area for a long period. There's also Hazara Pathans, who have Mongol ancestry from Ghengis Khan. North Punjabis have Syrian, Arabic & Hanse blood in them. Hence, half of Pakistanis having fair skin and lighter eyes. Hope this helps.
Pakhtuns do not have Israeilite blood. This myth has been debunked long ago that they are one of the lost tribes of Israel. Read up on genetic studies which have proven this theory wrong. Also if you recall correctly, Jewish origin people were persecuted in Europe for looking middle eastern with different features to Europeans. Anyhow people should be judged on who they are and not by their genes. In Pakistan we don't say that people in North Punjab, KPK, Northern Areas are more valuable than people in Sind or elsewhere.

They will do a detailed analysis of the genes and prove to you that Pashtuns have no association with "Bani Israel" For years we have been taught that that Pakhtuns descend from the Israelite tribes (not true) and that the Kho people in Chitral are descendants of Alexander the Great's army that marched down the Kabul River ( also not true). If you have a friend with background in population genetics, he can clarify this all for you. There are unique genetic markers that identity races and this includes the Jewish races. My own DNA analysis from Northern Pakistan shows both Central Asian and South Asian markers - no Middle Eastern markers. Population genetics rests on showing distinct genetic markers ( thousands of genetic markers on your mitochondrial DNA for example) that show the regional affiliation of your genome. Genetic mutation and lineage can be traced based on this. Mutations that randomly pop up in populations over thousands of years show the common lineage. Regardless of whether Jewish people were living in Europe for centuries there are these markers in Jewish people in Europe and by extension those who travelled to North America. I can provide further links if you wish but just to set yourself straight do a simple thing: Complete your own buccal DNA swab and send it off. It will settle this whole issue for you definitively. Incidentally, we all have a DNA map and it can also show multiple regional affiliations since our genome is so large and the distinct markers for population genetics are still there. Cheers.
