I think is what will have in ep 1 of the third season. Like many things, hunter hasnt have the time to process that the goop wendigo version of belos was SPLATTED by the collector.
This is why I'm glad Philip followed them to the human world. Hunter/Caleb needs to settle things with him, whether that will involve forgiveness I don't know, but he needs to be the one to finish things for himself and every other grimwalker in that little graveyard of "failures"

It'd be awesome if Belos went out this way. I'm fascinated by stories in which the big bad is defeated by someone other than the hero, especially if that someone has also been through a lot. It gives the feeling that all of the hero's allies are not only living their own story, but also that any of those allies could have easily been the protagonist because, in universe, they're all heroes; not like in something like Harry Potter where it's clear that everything is in his hands alone. If Hunter was the protagonist, we would have gone on a villain-to-hero journey with the help of the silly but kind-hearted human/little sister who shows him the light.
If Hunter was the protagonist he would have a similar journey to Adora's ( except he wouldn't end up with a partner who abused him). I also think it would be awesome if Hunter was the one to defeat Belos for good, as he suffered from Belos's abuse his whole life. He deserves a proper chance to stand against his abuser.

Hunter is his own person with his own history so I don't see him taking the name of the man he was made after, many kids suffer from abuse but they don't change their first name because of it, however I do think Hunter won't take the family name Wittebane but the one of his caretaker ( probably Darius's)

Absolutely. I entirely agree. Although─like you said─ this ending is no longer possible, there's still a possibility Philip will break down in the end and admit it was his fault; hopefully showing a hint that he regrets what he has done and how he misses his brother.
I'd like to think of it as a brief realization or a hint of regret (the "I'm sorry Caleb" could be taken in a different context of Philip regretting not saving Caleb sooner from the "evil" witches)
The artwork and storytelling are top notch as always, giving that canonical feeling and always making the reader feel so much. Even if the show ends, I believe these comics could keep the show going in our heads and hearts forever because of how good they are.
Phillip may have been a terrible man but he had to live with the fact he killed his only brother in the world, and he had to remember that everyday, and yes this is definitely canon that he killed his brother just look at the paintings in his memories it explains it all
This is a neat little last minute redemption, but I'm pretty sure it would actually end with Belos remarking in a Thanos-like manner that maybe he was too harsh on Hunter and his predecessors while Philip begs Caleb to vouch for his "goodness" and "righteousness" as he gets harshly escorted to the Infernal Gates.
Okay I hope this is how they do it in the show, not a redemption ark for Belos but for him to realize he was wrong and for the two to reconcile even if it ends with Hunter Killing Belos.
Welp…that was…something. In all seriousness, this was very emotional not only because of Caleb, it’s because when you think about it, Philip killed and took his brother’ dna and in a way “created” hunter. If this were too happened in season 3, it be very heartbreaking, but in a way remorseful
It looks like a Shadow Weaver ending, he just says one nice thing in his life then dies without facing consequences. Even if it's not death he deserves punishment. I wouldn't mind Belos saying that in the end but I don't think Hunter would forgive him, abuse AND mass genocide is pretty hard to forgive.

Phillip had been driven mad to a point of no return and his actions leading up to the finale is unforgivable, considering he won't change the way he is. Despite all that, there is some level of sympathy for Phillip, since he wasn't originally this evil, circumstances has led him astray. Still he is an incredibly unlikable and un remorseful character.

The legacy of the Wittebane can continue on through Hunter, and despite everything he has been through, atleast he doesn't have to suffer the same fate as the brothers, and can have live a more peaceful life together with his friends.

You've sacrificed too much to turn back, you've gone too far to seek forgiveness, save from fools who don't understand the horrors you've sunk to. I saw another comic like this (I think by the same artist) where Belos is passing over and reunites with Caleb. He insalts and blames Caleb, but all Caleb says is… “was it worth it?” And Belos reverts back to his child form and cries. It was so heart breaking and I can’t find it?
Anyone who attempts to try forgiving Phillip Wittebane/Emperor Belos in any way will probably get caught in an flame war with someone on why he doesn't deserve to be forgiven and etc. I still love the guy though.
We are definitely getting a final and traumatic fight with Belos before getting back to face the Collector. I mean the guy is pretty much irredeemable but I do wonder if Disney will let Dana go as graphic as a death scene.
Even if it's not death there's other ways to punish him, I think it would be a nice idea to lock him with the Collector for eternity ( the Collector would be back in his prison but able to play with Philip, who was clearly pissed off by him so it's hilarious to think about it 😂 that would be a nightmare worse than death for Philip)

While this is a really good alternate ending, I'm happy with the one we got. We don't have many irredeemable villains in Disney, and Belos was the perfect candidate

Absolutely. I entirely agree. Although─like you said─ this ending is no longer possible, there's still a possibility Philip will break down in the end and admit it was his fault; hopefully showing a hint that he regrets what he has done and how he misses his brother.

I'd like to think of it as a brief realization or a hint of regret (the "I'm sorry Caleb" could be taken in a different context of Philip regretting not saving Caleb sooner from the "evil" witches)
The artwork and storytelling are top notch as always, giving that canonical feeling and always making the reader feel so much. Even if the show ends, I believe these comics could keep the show going in our heads and hearts forever because of how good they are.
Caleb as the before golden guard shows a lot about Phillip and his actions.

Phillip may have been a terrible man but he had to live with the fact he killed his only brother in the world, and he had to remember that everyday, and yes this is definitely canon that he killed his brother just look at the paintings in his memories it explains it all

This is a neat little last minute redemption, but I'm pretty sure it would actually end with Belos remarking in a Thanos-like manner that maybe he was too harsh on Hunter and his predecessors while Philip begs Caleb to vouch for his "goodness" and "righteousness" as he gets harshly escorted to the Infernal Gates.
Sympathising with the obviously psychopathic villain is always fun!

Welp…that was…something. In all seriousness, this was very emotional not only because of Caleb, it’s because when you think about it, Philip killed and took his brother’ dna and in a way “created” hunter. If this were too happened in season 3, it be very heartbreaking, but in a way remorseful

It looks like a Shadow Weaver ending, he just says one nice thing in his life then dies without facing consequences. Even if it's not death he deserves punishment.
I wouldn't mind Belos saying that in the end but I don't think Hunter would forgive him, abuse AND mass genocide is pretty hard to forgive.

@@Memergzming It's unfortunate that the Wittebane bros and that one witch who was with Caleb had such a tragic ending. Phillip had been driven mad to a point of no return and his actions leading up to the finale is unforgivable, considering he won't change the way he is. Despite all that, there is some level of sympathy for Phillip, since he wasn't originally this evil, circumstances has led him astray. Still he is an incredibly unlikable and un remorseful character.
@@Memergzming For what it's worth, it's not completely a tragic ending for the Wittebane family. The legacy of the Wittebane can continue on through Hunter, and despite everything he has been through, atleast he doesn't have to suffer the same fate as the brothers, and can have live a more peaceful life together with his friends.

I think the better line would've been something on the lines of, "Goodbye, Uncle Phillip."
I saw another comic like this (I think by the same artist) where Belos is passing over and reunites with Caleb. He insalts and blames Caleb, but all Caleb says is… “was it worth it?” And Belos reverts back to his child form and cries. It was so heart breaking and I can’t find it?

Anyone who attempts to try forgiving Phillip Wittebane/Emperor Belos in any way will probably get caught in an flame war with someone on why he doesn't deserve to be forgiven and etc.

We are definitely getting a final and traumatic fight with Belos before getting back to face the Collector. I mean the guy is pretty much irredeemable but I do wonder if Disney will let Dana go as graphic as a death scene.
Even if it's not death there's other ways to punish him, I think it would be a nice idea to lock him with the Collector for eternity ( the Collector would be back in his prison but able to play with Philip, who was clearly pissed off by him so it's hilarious to think about it 😂 that would be a nightmare worse than death for Philip)

Hunter? He doesn't need to forgive his "uncle" in canon. Belos/Phillip was in the wrong to mistreat Hunter and regardless of how Hunter acted, Belos/Phillip should have acted like the adult in that situation and reined in his anger. He had no excuse to abuse Hunter or his brothers*, because his growing up in the 1600's is an explanation,never an excuse. Why? Because,both "parenting" books and family therapy exist
*I've watched Star Wars the Clone Wars for a long time. I'm used to clones being called brothers, and for all intents and purposes, the other Golden Guards were Hunter's brothers
this was amazing as always except for one thing. Hunter shouldn't forgive Belos and I don't think he would. this would've been perfect if he just stayed there crying and somebody for example asked what's the matter

He held his beliefs to the end, never changing. And honestly its fitting. He was irredeemable and no amount of random hugs was going to get him to stop. I prefer the idea in after life all the golden guards and caleb just stare at him, say nothing, before turning away and fading. Leaving belos with nothing but himself.
Maybe you've already seen it but there's a fan comic on the Owl House subreddit called 'Philip's End" It's an interpretation and extension of Philip's death.
