Nice review.... but you should look at the EV Everse 8. You can literally power a wireless mic off the speaker with its on board dc out power. A true wireless system for a ceremony.
100% plus I love the app for the EV Everse 8. It’s basically having a mixer on your iPad. A Everse 8 speaker, iPad, and a microphone receiver on top and that’s all you need!
I have had them all: Mackie Thump Go, Bose S1 Pro (Original), Yorkville EXM 8 and now the Ev Everse 8. The Everse 8 Is so much louder and d/c powers my Sennheiser dual lav receiver. Thump Go was great at the price point and size but for my ceremonies I felt like I needed (2) to do the job and still had to bring a small jackery for the mics.
Owning a pair of these and can only second to that review! Using them also on my terrace at home and at weddings! Also, after the cocktail hour, I usually take one and put it as my DJ monitor later on :)
I bought 4 of these about a year ago and 4 spare batteries, I have never used the spare batteries and they have never come off the green in at least 5-6 hrs and are rugged , after over 75 events for Karaoke, DJ,Back Music fantastic, these do have adequate thump but you must eq your computer to beef the bass more, they do have it, if you run a flat line eq you won't get that extra, I will say to get adequate volume in the number one channel you must use a quality shure wireless, or a small mixer, I use a small Yamaha mixer with a 12 volt power pak, the bluetooth is rock solid both in linking and pairing, I have over 50 years in music and these are ny go to, for large events these will be loud but not the thump you need
Hey Rick, I am buying two Mackie Thump Go’s to get back into smaller gigs because of THIS video. I can buy two Mackie Thump Go’s for almost the same price as a single EV Everse 8 or Yamaha Stagepas 200bt.
I have a pair of these, small jackery to power my mics and the xvive. Love them for ceremonies. I also use them to tailgate in Cleveland and they are more than loud enough
As usual Great review.. I have a pair of these and matched them with the prime go and i do not have any complaints. these things hold battery life good and also the prime go holds a good battery life. and yes you have to still power mics with an additional battery like stated below i just built a 4u rack and put the mics and battery in the rack works pretty well for me.
You was right it was $350 brought my second one and it’s now $449.95 Very great speakers for Ceremony and Cocktail hours. It wonderful for outdoor too using the outdoor mode on the back.
I just picked up a pair of these to try them out. They are coming in this afternoon. I plan to use these for ceremonies and cocktail hours, very small events and parties, or putting extra sound in other rooms at events. Cross my fingers that I they work well for me and I decide to keep them. I was debating between this and the everse. I have a charity event next coming Saturday. I may bring these out instead of my K12's, but not sure if I should use brand new gear at a gig. Should I use them a bit at home first.
I'm using the Everse 8. I use it most often as a booth monitor for mobile events. The bass is soooo good on the Everse8. I also plan to use it for wedding receptions and speeches with the Sennheiser Wireless Digital Dual Mic System.
Not sure the long gevity of these speakers I had a JBL irx 112bt and also the Mackie 12" bt which sounded blown and the music mode button didn't seem to change the sound as you mentioned. My concern would be replacement of the amplifier plate many companies back ordered due to bad solder joints.
I own this for 5 months now, well priced i use for cocktail and ceremony , i plug in a xvive in back for my wireless mic and. Bluetooh music on laptop or ipad. I have 1 extra batteries as back up. Priced way lower than bose or ev.
Rick, how well does the DUCK feature work? I do a Cornhole tournament where I don’t need the music loud, but a ton of mic work from an outside emcee. I currently bring my main controller with duck, but its overkill. Id love to be able to use smaller speakers and a small DJ2go controller.
Rick, thanks for the review. You always deliver the goods. I just bought one of these with a padded case on sale on Black Friday, very excited to use this one in my arsenal. Thanks bro, for keeping it real! 🤙🏻
This is very helpful video - If we pair with Bluetooth two of these Thump Go, can we use mic with first speaker and does it also come on another speaker via Bluetooth or the bluetooth linking only works for Music? Basically want two speakers to work wirelessly with a single microphone connected to one of the speakers.
It works like a through to the next speaker. So if you link them. Whatever you use mic music guitar on the first speaker. The same thing comes out the linked speaker
Great video man! I love that you compared it to the LD, since that’s one of the speakers Mobile DJs compare it to. Might not be a fair fight but it’s great to see how it holds up and consider whether it’s worth the price.
#squad couldn’t agree with this review more, I am on a low budget- I got one of these at the beginning of the summer and just got another one because prime day had them on sale. Would not skip on these speakers, one of my best purchases possibly ever
The tweeter is on the bottom of the mackies thump go so you can push the mackie thump go higher on the stand and it helps throw the sound out a little better.
Ok on ev 8 it should be better given it cost about double one of these I’ll take two of these vs 1 ev 8. Don’t get me wrong the ev 8 is dope but for pricing and coverage I’m sticking with my 2 thump gos.
Great video! You know what would be cool is if you could use the battery to power other items like a wireless mic receiver. That would truly make your setup completely wireless and and BEAST!
#SQUAD great review! I just picked up a thump go last week for a ceremony speaker, for the price point and what it’s capable of I love that little thing I can’t wait to try it out at my next event and plus it matches my SRTs
I want it for the same purpose. You found it loud enough to play background music and for an officiant to speak to 75-150 people outdoors thru a mic? Without a mixer?
No one seems to explain the sync function on these speakers. I have two 10 inch and cannot figure out how to get audio to the 2nd speaker without daisy chaining them
I use the jbl eon mk2 for ceremony and cocktail hour and its amazing..however thr mackie thump go the only downfall it doesnt power a wireless mic but the battery lasts a while
Has anyone matched a (preferably battery powered) subwoofer to the Thump Go 8s? I have a pair and I love them but they seriously lack low-end bass. I'd be in heaven if there was a portable/mobile sub to match them.
My Everse 8 blows my Thump Go out of the water. The Mackie is just not loud enough for a ceremony without a ext mixer. The EV doesn’t even need a mixer the headroom is 2x as more than the Mackie. I am looking to sell my Mackie Thump Go…it’s just not powerful enough. The EV blew me away. There’s a reason why it costs so much cause it’s worth every penny👌🏼
Rick, great review as usual. I have been impressed with Mackie’s new line of equipment. I believe the Mackie SRM 212 V series I’ll be my choice to upgrade from my current EV ZLX-15s. I am still debating on what subs to chose. Being a Cerwin Vega and JBL legacy fan, I had to open my Interest to the the other quality sound equipment Mfrs. I went to my local Guitar Center to preview the SRM V series but they didn’t have them at the time. I like the low weight, clear sound, not harsh like I find with the EV ZLX. I will keep the ZLX speakers as they have been good speakers and done very well for the entry level price point. DMX lighting upgrades and control are in the future too. I plan to contact you to purchase up lighting soon. Thanks Russell Guthrie Franklinton Louisiana
Great all in one speaker but really needs an USB power out for charging music devices or powering a 5v mini Wi-Fi streamer. Better still, fit a built in Wi-Fi streamer like many active Hifi speakers these days! Streaming bluetooth is fine at events, but you then have to keep the device with the music on it near the speaker. If you’re juggling many systems in several rooms or outside spaces at a large venue you then have the extra hassle of keeping them charged. Controlling multiple systems streaming hi-res music via Wi-Fi, all on the same network with one device would be awesome and without a great deal of extra expense. Anyway, great review. 👍🙏
Thanks for the informative videos Rick! I watch and learn a lot from many of them. The both up lights and 360 lights are awesome! But you missed the mark on labeling these as the "Best battery Speaker 2023". The EV Everse 8 literally "THUMPS" these Mackies. In their defence for half the price of the Everse they definately fill a avoid for the beginner DJ or someone thats on a tight budget.
I made Mackie aware of the app opening with all the sliders up (full volume) and they said they were not going to fix it. That seemed odd to me. Who turns up all the sliders on their mixer before turning it on? Nobody.
They could have made this speaker cheaper by removing Bluetooth & App software feature. The reason why I say this is because everyone I talked to regarding the Mackie Thump Go, are using it as a portable battery operated DJ speakers. So they would connected it to a mixer which is then connected to DJ mixer or controller.
I can appreciate you time for your review, but The EV Everse 8 is the best. I have compared the EV against the Thump GO and Bose S1 pro, and the EV wins hands down. The reason you don't like apps with speakers, is because the Mackie app is ok, but the EV app is very intuitive. I don't understand why anyone would want to have more knobs, that can be broken, or moved position in transport.
