    I have a deck currently but am so interested in the max 2. My two biggest issues is warranty and ergonomics though. Repairing the deck is not a giant chore and warranty claims with valve doesn't require shipping your system overseas. Plus the deck is very comfortable to hold. But for the other functionality, I do prefer the max 2

    • @SheddysGaming

      I just ordered my Deck and while I think this looks really cool, the ergonomics seem terrible to me. I'm not one to complain about that kind of stuff generally, but damn, it almost looks like they straight up designed it to be uncomfortable. I don't know what I dislike about it the most, but those recessed analog sticks might take the top prize.
      This thing is a sexy piece of kit for sure. It LOOKS amazing. But in terms of pure utility the Deck is where it's at for me. It's clear the Deck was designed as a machine for gaming first and foremost, whereas this thing's design priority was to look cool.

    It certainly packs a punch for its weight and good to see a vendor website that really tells you a lot about their device.
    As a small portable laptop, it gives you so much in such a small place. I/O is excellent and should have been the norm a while ago across the industry.
    Love the gamepad control covers, just to prevent gathering of dust if nothing else, although I do hate the use of magnets, the enemy of storage.
    The one problem that would concern me would be whether it really can be used as a portable handheld gaming machine with the ergonomics that it has.

    • @lucascarracedo7421
      @lucascarracedo7421 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@TorstenSimon well, kinda. It depends on each person, of course. For some people, the max is almost big enough for proper laptop use but not quite there, and this covers that need. Especially regarding the keyboard.
      Also, a 10 inch screen means this can be used as a media consumption device for people who sometimes carry a 10 inch tablet. And it can play. Of course it's not even close to the levels of ergonomic comfort you get with other more gaming centric devices, but it feels this is better positioned to be a gaming / production hybrid than the previous max models ever were.
      Of course a more mainstream laptop will be better at the laptop part. But they are bigger, usually have way less IO, and in most cases will be way more thermally limited than this, especially in the case of most ultrrabooks.
      Not saying this is for everyone. But there's certainly a use case for it and I don't think it's as niche as what you made it sound like (while considering this in the context of the still very niche handheld pc market).

    • @lucascarracedo7421
      @lucascarracedo7421 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Fashinqu A. Use cases like what precisely?
      All these devices are usable like a laptop actually, so that distinction is moot. In fact, for most use cases, the Deck is the least suitable device to use as a laptop/desktop because like 99% of people use windows as a production OS and not Linux. And most of those same people have no idea how to install Windows on the Deck. It's doable, but farm from ideal besides using some basic apps or surfing the Web. Unless they actually prefer some Linux friendly alternatives like Gimp or whatever.
      So, no. A Deck can also be used as a laptop, but not as comfortably as this. In fact, this is all wrong. The only way a Deck is better than a device like this is in ergonomics and form factor for gaming centric use cases. And even then, it's also super big and has a massive footprint. So it's not like it's considerably more portable anyway.

    • @lucascarracedo7421
      @lucascarracedo7421 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Fashinqu A. again, don't use your personal experience to talk about general stuff. Of course Linux is perfectly ok for many use cases. More than OK, it's preferable, but only if you know what you are doing. I have been using Linux for over a decade, almost exclusively, for work and personal stuff. But in discussing these devices you have to assume the lower common denominator. And the common denominator is people using Windows.
      There's a lot of Windows based stuff that's not accessible in Linux (again, common denominator), and almost nothing that's Linux exclusive (besides proper security and privacy to a certain degree). That includes Resolve, for which Linux wasn't a requisite in your case, you just prefer Linux, and I fully agree with that. That doesn't make it the most popular way of doing things by a long shot, or the most recommended for the general population. And you don't have to make an effort to see that, right?
      Also, nothing prevents anyone from installing any Linux distro on a GPD Win Max, or any other device for that matter. so the OS has nothing to do with how usable a device is. Just that the Deck as a desktop can alienate most users in a way a Windows default device very likely won't.
      And "your statistics are flawed" is a sentence that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Nothing being discussed here is a statistic. It's just comments based on common sense regarding the use case of the general population of a relatively new PC form factor that's slowly trying to become more mainstream.
      And please, stop assuming that if someone disagrees with you they need to "do more research". This is still friendly talk in a public thread. In most cases, many disagreements come from lack of proper communication tools. But even if they are proper ones, thinking you are right and everyone else is wrong won't take you very far. If you can't understand that, you should probably avoid interacting with people, because some will inevitably disagree with you.

    • @13JacksonMr
      @13JacksonMr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Fashinqu A. I think what he's tried to get out is that as a OS, while Linux is a better production OS, it's just nowhere near close of being popular and as mainstream as Windows. And people would be more comfortable with Windows than Linux. Not saying Windows is better than Linux, but the average person would gravitate to Windows before Linux.
      But outside of that, I think as a all in one type deal, the Win Max 2 would probably be better because of it already having the keyboard and mouse there.

    The AMD model will most likely get better performance in most games due to the RDNA2 iGPU, but the Intel one might be better for PS3 emulation.
    As long as the CPU and BIOS support AVX-512 instructions, you'll be able to run RPCS3 with much higher performance. Unfortunately, this requires you to disable the Efficiency cores and Intel are removing AVX-512 support for this reason.

    I'm not totally sold on this. The screen native resolution is 2560×1600 but I read that it will run at 1080p. Even then, the fps while gaming will be pretty close to what the Win Max 2021 was capable of with the Intel model. So no real gain in performance. Running games on 720p is obviously possible but we will see if the quality suffers. Everything else looks like a nice upgrade. I am pretty interested in the LTE module of winmax2, but someone from gpd told me that the bands supported are 2 G:GSM900/1800MHz,3 G:WCDMA B 1/B 8,TD-SCDMA B34/B39,CDMA BC0,4 G:LTE TDD B34/B38/B39/B40/B41,LTE FDD B 1/B 3/B 5/B 8. Supposedly it should not work with any us carrier. However, i was amazed that yours worked with tmobile! Probably they are shipping different lte modules to different contries.

    It's very slick in concept and images. But I own a Max 1 and it's *heavy AF* as a handheld; the larger Max 2 can only get worse. The ABXY positionning also gives me cramps; it'd be MUCH more comfortable just relocating them to the center as in the Win2, which I still use whenever possible because of those two reasons.

    Man Phawx, you've got my hyped for this thing. The main factors that'll decide whether I buy are 1) price, 2) support, and 3) do the components all work under Linux. I'd really like to skip paying for WIndows if I can.

    • @lucascarracedo7421
      @lucascarracedo7421 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am quite positive Linux will work well as will all their devices. I don't think you can skip Windows' price included in the package however. I've always wanted that along skipping the Biwin SSDs altogether.
      Whenever I get any of their devices I replace the SSD and clean install whatever I need straight away. If I need Windows installed for whatever reason I just use a Pro license. So I'm basically paying for Windows and storage that I will never use.
      Maybe that could be a way to compete in the pricing department. Giving options.
      Support is a mixed bag with GPD. I've had very good experiences with them in most cases. But then I got a wifi5 Win3 unit and there was no way to fix that. So there's that. RMA is a nightmare and sending to China takes months, and usually you end up paying taxes again.

    I'm glad this thing is going to be a good fit for some folks and this looks like it could be a killer ultrabook for those looking for something more portable than a laptop. Handheld usability seems iffy and GPD support and reliability are still HUGE issues in my mind (having had a GPD Win 1 that broke once in two ways and a Win 2 that broke twice in one way) but it is a compelling idea for that sort of cyberdeck-style form factor.

I'd email and crickets... then randomly they'd ask for something, or tell me they had no ability to send me something. Shortly after replacing the keyboard (which took a month to ship) the unit refused to charge. Its currently on its way to China for "repair", idk if I'll ever see it again. I was wondering if you have had any luck setting up the Win Max 2 gyro controls in Cemu. I can get Cemu to recognize the built in controller as XInput and all the buttons, joysticks, and triggers work but not motion. Or I can set Cemu controller to DSU and use the MotionAssistant app to have the Max 2 simulate DS4, which gets motion controls to work, but then the rest of the built in controller doesn't work.
    I was hoping to finally get to play BOTW without having to connect a real DS4 every time I find a shrine that requires motion controls.

    I hope this model can be used for a long time without issue like my GPD Pocket 2.
    My GPD Pocket 2 after 1 year of using, its keyboard was broken on some keys. As far as I know, the cause of the problem is the bad heat dissipation design while the device is too small. There are also many people suffering from this condition like me on TH-cam.
