Our aim at Aanandaa is not to just grow food and showcase our journey, but to also help you start your own permaculture project - to restore land and live a more sustainable life, in accordance with nature.

Manisha answers a few questions sent in via our social channels about the first step in getting started, scouting for and purchasing land.
1] What are the trade-offs worth making while buying? (soil/water quality/distance from city/acreage/etc.)
2] What were your trade-offs while purchasing Aanandaa? (personal experience)
3] Humid tropical location or a pleasant temperate location? (opinion on both sides of the question)
4] How much land is sufficient for a family farm? (acres/crops/size)
5] Can ancestral/inherited land be used? (opinion)
6] Is it important to test the soil before purchase? (experience/opinion)
7] Is it better to buy pre-cultivated land? (opinion)
8] Can you summarise the key points in brief? (quick tips that cover all aspects to keep in mind)

      Namaskar,
It is really inspiring to see these informative videos.
I had a question, what if all the available land near us have been pre-cultivated with use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides. Is there a way we can turn that back?
I really want to start a Agroforestry farm, but I fear of the land being pre-cultivated with chemicals.

Like the video. Hits all the things needed to consider before purchasing land. However, my questions from the first video remains.
      • What are the ways we could reach at a bench mark price for the given piece of land so that we don't end up over paying?
      • Also, Approximate funds to check the title of the land. Again, so that we don't end up over paying.

Thanks for your tips and the insight.
An important aspect you might have skipped is the human troubles. How do you handle any trouble from the local community. E.g. political interference or even vandalism ( I keep hearing of these horror stories from the villages). I can imagine a food forest being attractive to the local trouble makers and the big windbreak trees for the wood Mafia.

Hi Manisha, first of all..many thanks for you to start this beautiful service of giving back to the planet. I have watched few videos of yours and have been amazed everytime with the way you guys have made this.. I have a doubt related to land..
    1) What can I do if I have land available in pockets ( ex: 1 bigha here, then a 2 bigha nearby but not connected..)
    2) My neighbouring farms are cultivating paddy / wheat etc which makes it difficult for anyone to grow anything else ( because of the seasonal watering of fields which happens, its a canal based system )
Really appreciate if you can help me out with these queries.
    Thanks a lot!

    • @farmaanandaa
      @farmaanandaa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Land is becoming scarce, so take what you get and try to buy adjoining land later to expand the plot size.
Focus on tree based plantation and build a rainwater led watering plan

Organic land I presume is difficult to get since owner must have spent quite a lot converting it and must be well off so why would he sell it anyway. Also getting the land certified as organic takes 3 years. We need to concentrate on turning it into organic land in the quickest possible time. So if you go through Sri Nammalvar method you can convert it in 60 days. Would appreciate your views on that.

Hi Manisha, Thanks for your videos on permaculture. You are clear and to the point. I have a doubt regarding the amount of input needed for permaculture. Since permaculture aims to minimise the input needed, so input will be at minimum. But once the yield from farm is sold outside, the permaculture system is no more closed. Thus, in this case how much input will be needed? Will it still be permaculture? Please clarify on this for me.

I want to buy a piece of land of 3 acres near pune or Mumbai as suggested in video. I tried a lot past 2 years on this but do find genuine sellers or broker. Why is it necessary to ensure the land is fenced before purchasing? I think farmers who are just looking to sell the land might not want to invest in fencing it.

Can we use our chemically precultivated flat land used for growing sugarcane and wheat to convert into permaculture ?... What special measures need to be taken to remove the ill effects of poisonous chemicals like pesticides and chemical fertilizers already used in this soil n now grow everything naturally n chemical free in permaculture way?

    • @farmaanandaa

Almost all land available today has been chemically pre cultivated. Once you stop uaing chemicals and start buildibg living soils, the soil life will breakdown and clear out the synthetic chemicals over time. Just let nature do its job

Thanks Mam it was wonderful the basic tips you shared about your farm Aanandaa. I ,myself want to start farming near city near Bangalore but I am North Indian. Will it be a problem to find labourers as I don't understand South indian languages? What about Water resources as water is problem in most states?
I am also not very young to start farming on barren land so my concern is in less time if I could create my dream into Reality.
    I am very fond of South(any thing-food,weather,water,
people but still-to stay there permanently I am fold-out will be difficult.
Other option is Haridwar. But I believe I would miss like minded people's company to share my experiences and also No workshop canbe planned in that area.

Oh sure u can convert ur land in to organic within two years . But don't purchase damp area bcoz u can't do multiple farming if water logging is thr.
