I can honestly say that has to be the best fishing video I have ever watched. I found myself leaving the lounge and going upstairs, closing the door behind me so that I was not disturbed and could not put my phone down. Incredible story and what a carp to finish it off, huge congratulations Nick. I got chills and my eyes got watery with emotion. Loved it.
Wow thank you pal you have just done exactly that ....inspired me again I lost my dad at Christmas who taught me the joys of the bank but I've been out ,7or 8 times this year and blanked every session you've inspired me fella last man who could do that was my dad so thank you loved this film xxx
That has to be 1 of the best English carp captures of all time nick has achieved the ultimate of carp fishing achievements u dont get better for a British carp angler a river Thames 50 thats angling 💯👊
I'm a game fisherman , but I've really enjoyed this absolute gentleman's stories on his exploits carp fishing , he comes across as a really genuine guy who is passionate about his sport .
Consider it a milestone. The pure craftmanship and effort and... taste! that went into making this is as far as I can oversee and know carpfishing films just something new and different. Yes there are films that are more on the instructional side than this. But thats not what THIS film is about. I so caught myself having a big grin on my face and in the end... I mean carpanglers dont cry, dont they? And of course old Nick just wears the sunglasses because of the brutal sun when he holds that creature, doesnt he? Yes there are films more instructional (and more advertising all the same) out there. But this is so much about just fishing. Why we do it. And whats it all about. Still smiling And greetings from Germany
Absolute beautiful dark old warrior with such a clean mouth, which tells you it doesn't see the light of day much. Catch of a life time. Well in Nick... 👏
as someone who has spent the last 4 years in a vw t5 camper van with 2 dogs traveling throughout europe fishing catch and release for sea bass, in ireland ,france, spain and portugal, i can relate totally to the effort you put in and to the lifestyle you have, a wonderfull tale, thanks for shareing peter
Must be the Mainline crew,Even they have to admit ,the films sticky have been doing are just filmed stunning.I film my self and honest this is just really great footage.Of a special moment in time ,50lb out of thames. If i lived down there,i would be looking everywhere for those boats lol .
Also on the wychwood gear,i love there stuff ,Had all rods from df's shim's but in all honesty i just love the low end 3lb tc wychwood 101's ,they have served me well.Love cork handled rods though .Only had two rods i like more and that was when i won carp talk comp ,and got two terry hearn mk 2's about 6 month before they went on sale ,they was just beautiful, and signed by him .Sold them like a prat.Fell out with fishing for big carp for around 6 year ,but still been filming em and photographing em .Underwater footage ext.But it become more about how good you looked than fishing ,it become stupid ,Level rods and bobbins all same height .Joke really. No more,I still gone for a nice kit ,since i got back into it.But nothing to tarty,But looks nice and does the job.Fishing a large gravel pit that is just un fished ,but there are at least two 40's in there. But loads of bream and tench roach .unlike the other pit at the side of it.I've done that one,and had the largest 4 fish in there. They are bigger now.At least 5 fish over 30 lb,for south yorkshire ,and not a circuit water there big fish that have got to this weight through feeding on natural food.Only seen one other angler on there fishing ,but he was after bream. But he told me hes been done a few times by just un stoppable fish,Carp bloody big carp to for south yorkshire two 40's at least rest are un known. Its the reason i love this new challange.fishing for the unknown, but knowing there are two fish both mirrors over 40lb.On there tomorrow, for next 12 month,so i will be doing blogs on that venue and my adventures.Going at it with at least one rod on bottom bait with a fake piece of corn ,or a 10mm tipper, snow man.I normally fish pop ups withy pool or supple hinge rig.But depending on weed tomorrow ,i will be using a stiff boom ,on there if weeds not bad,so looking forward to latching into one of these beauties.
A true gentleman, now and then, took time to chat with me about Fox Pool years back on Carp Forum. Love his ethos on carp fishing and a great story told here. Well worth a watch!
This series is absolutely brilliant and this story was spellbinding. Congrats to sticky as well for not using it as an excuse to ram product marketing down out throats. A truly stunning fish, right i'm off to buy a boat.
No matter how many times I watch it, I get choked up right at the very end. Beautiful film. So inspiring. Lost for words every time. Respect nick helleur
One of the most powerful ending sequences I’ve ever seen this is total class film making at the highest level. Blown away goosebumps. What a story what a creature.
This is the most amazing and incredible fishing video and story I have ever watched. And boy have I watched some. I’ve watched it 3 times in 3days. Just phenomenal. I’ve recommended to everybody even non-fishermen. Great work Nick and Sticky baits.
Oh dear god, like nick said himself we all new about the awesome capture a while back, but man alive he’s story telling coupled with the footage tells a lot more. Bloody awesome watch guys 👏🏼👌🎣🙌🏻
Absolutely brilliant Nick, the way you told the story of nearly fainting and the look on your face is truly inspiring to the point I had a tear in my eye (sad I know) 👏 👏 👏 BRILLIANT
So much respect to you nick, modern angling is all about that glamorous snapshot of a big carp but what you have done is to capture the whole journey, the sweat, the tears, the effort and shear determination that it takes to capture a fish like that, you definitely earnt that one mate, 100%
What a heartfelt story of a fantastic journey Nick. Your passion comes flooding through. To be honest the capture of those river 30’s was enough, thanks for sharing. I had my own equivalent experience fishing my local Grantham canal fishing for carp and big perch most people didn’t know existed. The ultimate reward was the capture of a perfect unmarked 31 1/2lb common carp, such a rare beast for an urban canal. That fish will always be my most cherished capture. I have recently landed my first UK fifty shortly followed by a well known 46lb common but they pale into insignificance in comparison. But you are right it was all gone in the blink of an eye when three Otters were introduced and every one of the 16 carp was lost within 3 months. So appreciate every second while you still have the opportunity and enjoy. Such fishing is very very special indeed!
Best nick helleur video to date , not normally a fan but his humbleness in this vid 👌 Didn’t get the fishing for a known fish after the big speech at the beginning but great video and a truly magnificent carp
Just stunning. I feel privileged to have watched this and shared Nicks journey consolidated. An inspiration as people have already said. Always enjoy Nick's articles and books although few and far between not being a limelight angler. What a life and what a dream to be able to follow in this modern world. What a start to this series and bar setting indeed.
Probably the best looking carp I have ever seen ,well done nick .we crossed paths a few times fishing on the Thames at Staines .now I have moved to Austria 🇦🇹 fishing the mighty river Danube in search of my own monster
Truly inspirational, the kind of video that makes you want to go and fish for the fish you've always wanted to catch but never had the motivation. Motivation in video form. Congrats Nick.
What an awesome film, so much respect for you Nick, what a fish at the end ! Sure it was the same one that Tel Hearn found dead, real shame . But these beautiful creatures don’t last forever, well done Nick and Sticky for such an inspirational and amazingly shot film. Straight up 10/10, without a doubt.
The sound of wood pigeons take me back some 25 years to a lake in Kent I struggled on 4 first year just losing fish after fish. But I loved it. Learning as I struggled. I love that sound, and even down to what we were smoking, bait recipes and taste/smell, sneaky moves etc...! Your blogs help bring back these great times, first twenty at 26, named wanted fish, proper character. Thankyou for helping me remember those good old days. Would love to be doing what you are, keep on making me happy🎣🍻 second time watching.
Best fishing story watched in a long while proper talker like Terry hearn brilliant fish brilliant life story you deserve best in life man worked hard for it
Wow I just didn’t want this story to end we all need goals in life great stories to tell incredible captures emotional quest for beasts from the deep. This is what is so great about fishing all the trials and tribulations to get to the prize .You’ve inspired me nick great guy all the best for the future but where do you go from here how could you ever beat that 👍👍👍
I might be in trouble, just took a 1 hour 15 minute break at work.... absolutely loved it mate. The passion, the respect, the effort... just everything. You DID deserve to catch that fish mate !
Amazing well done Nick. Now that is what fishing should be about. Doing the fishing you love and enjoy and is your passion. I was welling up watching the end result and as John Wilson used to say. Absolute magic!

Absolutely incredible all round. Beautifully filmed, amazing scenery and a perfect man for the job! I’ve never been so happy for someone I’ve never met before getting the 50 at the end, almost emotional just watching! Well done Nick and Sticky!
This has inspired me soo much I have a wealth of knowledge of my part of the Thames where I live but as a kid I never had the patience or skill to mount a campaign but now I’m older I have a driving licence I’m ready to catch the river carp I used to see every summer in the weir pools near me and they are true river warriors too thanks nick for the inspiration I needed to realise a childhood dream just as you have done !
That's my favourite fishing film to date. The cinematics, the story telling, everything was just on the money. Well done to all involved. F*cking awesome 👍👍
