Ricky can I just put this on record? You are a legend! My favourite people in the motor/servicing world are you and Aldous Voce at AV engineering! Legends
Find garage 59 website and go speak to Tim white. He was McLaren's head engine builder. Garage 59 used to build the McLaren 12c and650 GT3 as well as the 570sgt4. When I was working there they had shit loads of engines knocking surround.
Flat plane cranks tend to have bad harmonic distortion, I assume that the crank isn't knife edged to aid in balancing, this is a drysump engine, where the entire crank cradle and bottom case are one casting, there is no other way to access the inside of the sump without un doing the bolts that hold down the crank, windage trays are cast into the cradle/sump from there they feed back to the drysump pump, which has a rigid flange that bolts to the pump to the sump, it seals up with o-rings, Im in the process of building the M838T of my own McLaren, Ive had to custom design and order a majority of the parts, next up I need main bearings and headstuds, then Ill be ready to assemble.
Beautiful. I like how you recognize all the brand names that cross over on all the auxillary parts . Smart guy 😉 What in gods name is that transmission brand you said sounds Italian something or other..?
What size compressor that TD04 has? There are quite few options for TD04 compressor directly from MHI catalog, are the compressors already 19T size or something smaller like 15T?
Pretty much every manufacturer have their own take on TD04 manifold flange: Saab: T25 flange or 3-bolt Volvo: Fancy 4-bolt flange with ring-type gasket Subaru: 3 bolt and 5 bolt twinscroll Mitsubishi (4B11T): 4-bolt non standard Just to name few.
So a mclaren has a Gates coupler same as a t5 5cyl transporter 😂😂just found your videos man love the content I love finding similar design by different manufacturers. Never thought I'd get to see the inside of mclaren I thought I was lucky seeing the insides of the occasional amg
When you say you blueprint the oil pumps . Why do you need to do this. I just bought a new Audi V10 oil pump. I was going to just bolt it on. Is this wrong.
I can’t imagine having to explain to a customer that a set of plugs is the best part of £1k before they’ve even been fitted! Then again, if you can afford a McLaren it’s relative to the cost of the vehicle.
Not the next step as we have never been busier with R8’s and there are thousands on the roads to look after. This is just another string to the bow and give some of our clients a viable independent option away from main dealer as no one does them really.
@@REPerformanceUK Gotcha, but I always though ductile iron liners and the cast aluminum block alloy were pretty comparable in strength, except for that Al365 that ferrari uses (I think thats what its called)... that was slightly stronger.

I watch a lot of engine build posts on you tube and yours is the best Barr none .Very direct and to the point..superb .👍
Wow, thanks!
Gotta love some subi performance though?
Nice to listen to a knowledgeable chap with a passion for his job. 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you kindly
italian RP, Italy based conrod/piston company. These guy are another level of quality.

These compact mclaren v8s are really good
How they fit 24 mm long spark plug thread in place of 19 mm?
Excellent looking forward to this evolve 👍
You and me both!
90 quid sparkplugs in a golf :)
I’m really surprised the crank isn’t knife edged. Also do they do any windage treatment in the oil pan?? Great vid mate.

Knife edging is a waste of time. Have a look at any F1/superbike crank. They aren't knife edged.
@@dewitoosthuizen3130 Crucial knowledge- Thanks

Graziano Oerlikon! Italian German! Lol
Simply excellent 👍
Thanks a lot 😊

I’d like to know this too
Anyone knows engine number locationnof 720s?
Same turbo as my 1.5 tsi Skoda 😂
Is the manifold to turbo flange McLaren specific? Other TD04s are 3 bolt. (Subaru)

Wow😍😍😍♥️♥️♥️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
90 quid a plug is just lunatic I don't care if it is a McLaren, someone is taking the P155.

Glad you like them!
I thought rose joints don’t last as long as rubber bushes? Isn’t that one of the downsides of them
I wouldn't say don't last as long, they don't offer the compliance as rubber.

Hello Ray, we do this on our performance builds to improve efficiency and reduce friction. You can bolt your new pump on with no worries at all.
Thank you. My new pump turns easily and smoothly, so do not think there would be much friction.
And I thought the Bosch W5 dpo plugs in my G40 were expensive 🤣
I know!!

Do you see Mclaren as the next viable step going forward with business? I guess the R8 platform, as we know it, is coming to an end.

I thought Mclaren gearboxes were built by Ricardo
No. That’s the engines.
Any Porsche GT builds ?
I’d love to do a GT!
£90 per spark plug😲
How does this sit amounts other exotics and their racing plugs?
Why liners? Seems like such a waste, y not just save the weight and machining cost and run a nikasil coating?
Not as strong, also with any liner damage just replace that liner not the whole block
@@REPerformanceUK Whats the strength values of both materials?
The McLaren engine only has liners, it’s not like the V10’s we do which are one piece machined.
@@REPerformanceUK Gotcha, but I always though ductile iron liners and the cast aluminum block alloy were pretty comparable in strength, except for that Al365 that ferrari uses (I think thats what its called)... that was slightly stronger.
Lots of talking but no doing
That’s how we roll!! 😂
