Well my friend, like the fellow said, "It's your gun" and do whatever you feel like to it as long as it shoots when you need it. Personally, I like the job you did on both the gun and the video....and I'm pushing 70yrs old. If it wears off or you get tired of it.....heck, go buy another 10 bucks worth of paint.
I agree!! All paint I don’t care what brand or how strong they say it hardens wears off with wear over time.. just get some more paint and touch it up. Bottom line man, the gun looks nice and it fires every shot. Keep doing your thing brother.
It's your pistol, piss on what other people say! I spray painted my AK and as it wears off I put a little more paint on it. Good luck with your channel
I did a Rust-O-Lium paint job on my G30SF. Shot and holstered daily with ZERO ware other than a small rub near the rear corner of the slide. I think the Matt clear coat has helped.
Also sometimes spray paint can take a lot longer than it seems to really set in. I would suggest leaving it alone for 2 or 3 days after you paint it. That way you can make sure that the paint is fully dry because it can appear dry but then you pick it up and it comes off and you notice that you have paint on your hand. I've spray painted metal before and it's literally been still somewhat wet after an entire 24 hours.
Like you said ...not bad at all for a $10 paint job. Personally I don't give a crap what a gun looks like, its just a tool. I care about how reliable it is and from what I can see in this video the paint job did nothing to effect the reliability of the gun. So good job!
+J. Gregg Campbell Yeah people kept saying I tarnished the gun. It will never be pretty again. I was like ok will I don't give a shit what it looks like. Only reason I even had Jake paint it was for the practice, and video. My rifle has dirt on it from 4th of July....
+Derick Boehm Well you did a good job on the painting anyway. The holster rub was the most noticeable on camera. (Unlike J. Gregg Campbell)I like many "do" care what my weapon looks like. Shooting is an expensive and time consuming hobby and the money I have invested I like to take care of. I keep my guns clean between practice sessions and I do like to see people that customize theirs just like car enthusiasts like to see customized cars. To each his own I guess. But I though the gun looked good and you did a good job with it. Cheap paint just didn't hold up.
These days Rust-Oleum sucks..they took out the hardener..takes like 2 weeks to cure..plus the spray pattern inconsistent..never know how old the shit is..its changed..was my go too paint..not so much now..be safe
Sounds like fun to me I mean I would try it on a I don't know something maybe cheaper than a Glock the only thing I could think of being an issue is the CLP or hops or whatever lubricant you use on it. Because correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that possibly damage the paint job?
I painted just my slide on my glock and after taking it out and using it a few times it's already fading. It looks pretty cool tho. Next time I'm going to try a different paint, rustoleum is whatever's
I think once the paint gets worn down, it won't stick as bad and will be easier to draw then. Maybe, you should put on a thinner coat next time. Most of the wear seemed to be caused by the holster. Still, a good, informative video and a cautionary tale for those who don't want to have trouble drawing their gun. : ) Blow up a small car, or maybe a large plastic, or metal box full of - whatever.
What's that electric slide move you keep doing every time you reload. Oh yeah work on your camera presence too. That's what editing is for. You on your way. Keep on keeping on
I’m going to do a woodland pattern with Rustoleum Paint on my Glock 22, after I get it stippled. Tried selling it, but nobody likes 40 caliber anymore.
The idea of doing a camo job on a firearm, then worrying about scratches...well, what's the point? You drop that pistol in the weeds and no one will ever find it. Great camo is about breaking up a pattern, as cheaply and prodigiously as possible.
you want to see how it will it wear out......do you even have to fire it...i think you will know the answer by just holstering and drawing it many times
+EvendimataE Yeah the point of the video was making it hot will speed the process up. I was unholstering and reholstering to try and move the process along. I just posted a quick update video to my Facebook page if your interested in seeing that.
People said the same thing about my rattle canned rusto'd VZ I painted and it has yet to fail me. The paint stayed on better than I expected an is hardly even wearing in the parts that get serious contact. Good videos. Check mine out for similar content if you would like.
+clockwork421 Your pistol was also only painted with one layer of base paint, and a light later of the top coat. Had it been painted with 4 layers and cured with heat in between this job would have held up much better I think. My guns are tools, and I beat them like they owe me money. Mine have had no problems with rattle can paint and dont see why I should spend 5-8 times what I did to get the same thing cerakoted.
+clockwork421 Yeah the paint is wearing in some places, but its holding up 10X better than I figured it would. I think the wear looks good too so I dont mind.
Exactly. The wear is going to happen. Especially in high contact areas. Some people like to make everything perfect on their guns and that is fine, thats their platform they can do what they want. I run run run mine and use them the same as if my life depended on it. I agree, my paint held up much better than I expected and the wearing will show the character and experiences you put into it. When you get tired of how it looks, throw that bad boy in the dirt, rattle it again and you are good to go!
clockwork421 Yeah man, this gun is like a resume now lol. I am about to upload a update video on the paint. I have had a fair amount of people ask how it's holding up.
Tear it up man. Thats what it is for. I love how all people come out of the woods in tacticool equipment to comment about how the spray paint wont hold up/why you no cerakote/muh painted safe queen is 100% painted no wear bruh, and then criticize what someone elses firearm looks like after modding it. Puh-lease internet. Those fudds dont even use their gear lol.
It's not the mona lisa. Its a tool. I don't own a single tool that doeasnt have some sort of scratch on it. It was ment to hide in the woods....betya it still does that. lol.
What’s up with that little shuffle/ side step when you draw lol? You just wanna look cool or something lol? Show the target your shooting too. We want to see if you can actually shoot or not lol Invest in a Steele IPSec or something for gods sake and stop just dumping rounds lol

+Matt Johnson Thanks man!
+Matt Johnson plus you can.change up the camp for different season's or areas!....
+Randy Vertrees camo.
Matt Johnson that's true. I painted my slide oh well. It's mine
I did a Rust-O-Lium paint job on my G30SF. Shot and holstered daily with ZERO ware other than a small rub near the rear corner of the slide. I think the Matt clear coat has helped.
Dude if u painted it fart hole yella who's business is it to tell ya what looks good and what don't . Shoot on my friend

I don't know if you or anyone else caught it but you can actually hear the audible reset every time you fire
Christopher Riccitelli I was just gonna say something about that loud ass trigger
Christopher Riccitelli good trigger discipline, your follow through is good. Reset that trigger my man.
Did you bake the paint on in an oven? Helps it cure and get more resistant to wear.
Like you said ...not bad at all for a $10 paint job. Personally I don't give a crap what a gun looks like, its just a tool. I care about how reliable it is and from what I can see in this video the paint job did nothing to effect the reliability of the gun. So good job!

Cheap paint just didn't hold up.
How long did you let the paint cure??...
Is that the "Glock Two step"?Pull gun, step to right, point gun, step left (
cha cha cha)...
In my opinion wear marks show you've used your gun that you've been practicing if your worried about keeping it pretty don't use it.
I like my retention nice a loose. Just a click going in and effortless coming out. Nice and smooth.
Great video dawg....personally, i like the battleworn look! Gives it character!
These days Rust-Oleum sucks..they took out the hardener..takes like 2 weeks to cure..plus the spray pattern inconsistent..never know how old the shit is..its changed..was my go too paint..not so much now..be safe

Yeah if you want it to last I wouldn't suggest Rustoleum. The paint on this gun is getting messed up, but I think it looks cool!

+Astrogirl1usa I want to blow up a car so bad lol. The people who let me use the land wont like that though. :(
Derick Boehm
Oh well, it was just a thought... :)
Astrogirl1usa Someday I will blow up a car :)
the line has nothing to do with the rounds being shot. Its from the holster.
Those holsters are really rough on guns. I like the leather or cloth holsters more.
For people reading this comment, never ever use leather or cloth holsters on striker fired weapons.
Bout to Army Green my M&P slide and khaki the lower/tape it off so it's black as well.
What's that electric slide move you keep doing every time you reload. Oh yeah work on your camera presence too. That's what editing is for. You on your way. Keep on keeping on
Dude if you finish with a matte clear coat, the paint holds up better
Good call, I'll keep that in mind. I actually like the way this gun has worn though.
Derick Boehm so u didn’t clear it
Also, you should he treat the gun when you finish painting it then after spray the matte clear.. it should hold up a lot better
Holster gone get in the way in a sticky situation
May as well paint it pink so your attacker doesn't try to steal it off your corpse.
Edit: 6yr old video. RIP.
I looks cool with the wear
it looks cool
If it’s a range gun and just for fun with no holstering it’ll probably last forever.
I’m going to do a woodland pattern with Rustoleum Paint on my Glock 22, after I get it stippled. Tried selling it, but nobody likes 40 caliber anymore.
woknded fan how much trying sell it for

Dig the pattern you used.
What do you use to remove the paint?
Paint thinner but it will never look stock again
People said the same thing about my rattle canned rusto'd VZ I painted and it has yet to fail me. The paint stayed on better than I expected an is hardly even wearing in the parts that get serious contact. Good videos. Check mine out for similar content if you would like.

I actually just uploaded a short showing off what it looks like 8 years later. Spoiler alert she’s beautiful
Good video
