    Good video. I watched an interview with Bas Rutten claiming, "Mike Tyson doesn't know how to punch" because he broke his hand in a street fight which is laughable. We can punch harder than our hands can sustain. Plain and simple.

    Johnny what's your recommendation on gloves with wrist support - for those recovering from typical boxing rookie injuries of the wrist? A lot of reviews online and a lot of hook and loop ones - what are your top picks for 18oz heavy hitters with dodgy wrists

    Hey Johnny Bro, have a question, what do you think about training shadow boxing with little dumbbells in hands. What does this do to your skills. Thx a lot 4 reply

    very informative video man..awesome!... got a question though,..would u recommend training with open hand palm strikes instead of punches (if youre just training for street self defense only)? that way, you dont have to worry about wrist injuries.. and also, is it true that vertical fist also prevents wrist injury?

    Hey jonny, I've had two fights so far and have trained for two years. I am still blinking whenever he throws a punch. I'm not scared of the the punch or anything like that I just keep blinking, and I'm missing a lot of opportunities to counter. Any tips?

    any specific exercises you should do to avoid hand injury?
    some claim knuckle and finger pushups help strengthen all those tendons in the wrist, thus reducing the wrist of a hand injury

    • @expertboxing
      @expertboxing  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good technique is most important (and perhaps the only thing). It's not like you can develop arm muscles so strong that you've immune to hand injuries.

    • @V12509
      @V12509 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do. You’ll never be completely immune, though you’ll reduce your chances drastically

    I've never heard anyone recommend the bottom 2 knuckles, Some people use the last 3 knuckles with a vertical fist or a 45 degree angle. This is recommended by Jack Dempsey in his 1950 book. It's probably not optimal for boxing with 10oz gloves, but may be better if hitting with bare knuckles.

    ... and don't ever buy everlast gloves. They are shit. It might seem ok at first but they bottom out so fast that eventually you will hurt your hand. This is coming from experience.

    • @waterflowzz
      @waterflowzz 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** well here's the thing it depends on the price too. but the thing about everlast is for the same price you can buy better quality gloves. I heard the ones that are priced at like $150 and above are pretty good gloves. The thing about high end everlast gloves are that it's too bulky. They look like pillows on your hands. Bulky gloves usually give you no feedback, you can't feel the impact of the punch. I guess it's a personal preference but I never liked everlast for those reasons. There's also a difference between training gloves and sparring gloves. Training gloves have more denser padding so that it won't wear out fast. Sparring gloves have more softer padding so the puncher and the sparring partners are protected from the impact. So the answer to your question can differ depending on what you're doing, sparring or training. If money is no object I would go for the top brands that pro boxers use such as winning, grants, and cleto reyes. Winning gloves are used by many pro boxers like mayweather and pacquiao for training but they are over $300 so yeah. I have yet to see anyone that says anything bad about winnings besides the price. Title is okay. and some muay thai glove brands are okay. To tell you the truth you can't say a certain brand is good because it's very different from glove to glove even if it is the same brand. Try to do your research and try out some gloves if you can and see which ones you like. What I said above about everlast is not always true because it depends on the price but I would say anything that's lower than $150 for everlast gloves is pretty much crap. Yeah it may feel comfortable at first but you will start noticing some pains in your hand or wrist when the gloves are falling apart. Everlast gloves are comfortable when you wear them at first. They fit snug but they lack the support when you're hitting the heavy bag or something that is hard.

    I don't agree with what he says about you shouldn't be hitting the heavy bag for an hour. You should always do more than 6 rounds on the bag. YOU gotta condition your body and cardio. Shit I do a hour in a half to 2 hours hitting the bag. It keeps my body in shape and healthy.

    • @expertboxing
      @expertboxing  10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You're kidding, right? I'm guessing you either don't have a boxing trainer or you don't train around other serious (or competing level) fighters. If you're spending 1.5 hours a day on the heavy bag, I wonder how much time and energy you have left for the million other boxing drills....speed bag, double-end bag, mitts, shadowboxing, sparring, S&C, warm-up, core work. I would suggest for you to watch a pro train in person so you can see for yourself how little they use the heavy bag at times.Hitting the heavy bag for more than 6 rounds is ok. ALWAYS hitting the bag for more than 6 rounds....errrr....not very good advice. If you're on that level, I'm assuming you're sparring more than 6 rounds, right?
