Exactly! You really learn how to fight with boxing. The sport is refined and can teach you many things about fighting skills and fighting reflexes that aren't as refined in other sports.
I was taught basics a long long time ago as a young teen.(I'm in my sixties). One learns real fast after several hard punches in a ring. We were taught more or less the same as you instruct. I think it better to keep one's arms a little higher though as fast cross can be deadly. I enjoyed your lesson. Brought back many memories. Good show.
Hey man this is a Lil off topic but I just wanna say thanks alot, you've helped me become a way better boxer. And you've helped me out in my flaws alot, thank you so much :)
expertboxing do you wear boxing shoes on the street then also? ive been using skate shoes i never have any mention problems with them, there pretty flat so you can stand on the board n thick to take impacts.
FuckMySubscribers aus That's funny. If you were implying the use of boxing footwork in a street fight, it would not be very effective since the streets are not flat and smooth.
Yeah alot. I'm learning soo much more from you than the coaches who are training us. Thanks alot. They haven't even taught us how to block (lucky me my dad boxed).
i really liked the tips on pointing your feet in different directions as well as lowering your hands. i usually stay outside of the bubble with my hands down. i would get confused at why it was harder to move around when i was shadow boxing with my hands up. great tips homme!
Non-stop for me. If it's demanding, that means you haven't figured out how to really relax on the jump rope and not quite used to it yet. You can always slow down a bit but don't stop.
I meant the technique exactly as I demonstrate it. The concept is to activate your ankles and not just let your feet lay their dead on the floor when you change movement directions. On a side note, it's much easier to go backwards at a slight angle than to go directly backward.
Having narrower feet doesn't necessarily make you more athletic or less athletic. It depends on the structure and build of your feet. A wide feet might actually mean FLAT FEET, and flat feet means you have a collapsed arch, which isn't particularly good for being athletic at all. Hands down can serve many purposes. For this video alone...I reference its benefits for helping your footwork and helping to lower your center of gravity. Certain body types can lower their COG by dropping their hands.
good points. my 5 cents shoulder roll is good when turning. no excessive moves is good to save energy. timing right steps/slides = good. not only it makes you faster saving time for unnecessary steps, it helps to save energy. moving and not being stuck is good, but landing hard shots requires to have those shots fired when you stand properly and move sharply, otherwise you "scratch the opponent". Being evasive is good. Moving too much is not, as it eats your energy, experienced opponent reads most of it and by timing in unnecessary moves you have less time for the ones that would have mattered.
Thanks for the tips! I'm a beginner, but in a big class. So it's difficult it's hard to get that one on one to work on my footwork. Which is my main techniques I really need to work on. Least I have something to work on at home 💪🏽
Love your videos bro my name is TAZZ from Glasgow Scotland I am fighting in a charity boxing match and your videos have helped me tremendously you are appreciated brother. I'm really nervous now as I fight in a week after 8 weeks of training camp I feel good do you have any final tips you could tell me like what to do a day before the fight and on the day also eg. Eat and prepare etc. Thanks again Johnny
Another reason to step on the balls of your feet is the ankle is a natural suspension mechanism. You'll never roll over on your ankle if you touch down with the ball of your foot, and it's better for the knees too so less likely to incur a knee injury.
Hi there, quick question regarding the jump rope exercise. Can I simply do quick jumping for 10-15 mins simulation jumping with the jump rope or is it better with the actual jump rope perhaps for coordination purposes. Additionally after jump rope excercise should I stretch only my calf or whole legs in order to stay flexible? Thanks in advance!
I'm in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I'm already busy with my own fighters but if somebody really REALLY wants private instruction, they can contact me personally.
I did al my heavy bag work in cross trainers and in a couple months the part under the ball of my foot was warn almost all the way through from all the pivoting.
Thanks for your tips. However, the 10th tip, low your hands that makes me confuse. As you know, the most trainers keep saying that raise your hands to cover and block. I have seen lots of pros that low their hands and do good. What should I say to my trainer if he keeps telling me to raise my hands, but I want to low my hands instead?
The thing with moving direction and footsteps, well you are demonstrating on a ground type that can make you normally slide left and right, while on Matt ground (as in gym) it wont be easy like that.
Sweet I will my next fight is in april next year! then im going for fitness model after that! So ill upload my fight on you tube 2.ill watch more of ya videos 2! There funny your a great teacher and comedian haha.Worst part about boxing training for me would have to be the hill sprints do u have to do them? They almost make me spew every time.Hardcore coz they make me do 8-10 up a steep arse hill.subed ya channel take care
Hey, gud vid man. But u got any tips on how 2 get faster reflexes cos im a beginner in amateurs n i get banged out every sparring round cos all da uv guys r experienced n much faster dan me. Also if u drop ur hands dat means ur reaction time increases? Thankssss
Thanks for the tips! I love you're videos they have helped me a lot. I do notice that you say "he" and "guy" a lot, I don't mind of course, as it doesn't effect the technique, but know the ladies are watching too ;)
Do u kno any tips on how 2 mke ur jab faster? I always jab n i mean alwys jab ive never upercutted although hooks yh but ma main 2 r jb n cross so u kno any tips on how to get faster hand speed so ma jab can becum faster? Cos wen i jab i dunt bring it bk 2 ma chin i automatically drop it down n dats wen i get smacked wiv a hook
Taking big steps is not all bad, just make sure ur on balance at all times one step at the time, just do like he says learn how to walk* use the ring walk around left and right throw ur jab wit that step to set it up step back amd forward, keep walking trow ur jab wit ur set up steping forward n probably trow a 1,2,3 so u make sure ur on balance make that for three rounds or so
Anyone wanna help me out with a few questions I have? 1. During combination punching do you stay on the balls of your feet or do your feet stay grounded? 2. When taking a body punch do you exhale a lot of air or do you exhale short burst of air? Thanks for your time
Last tip on lowering you hands I watched alot of mike tysons old fights and his hands always was up to his face. In the earlier years he lowered them but in the later years as he progressed they stayed near his face.
OOH, i heard that before. I like that. I'm training myself now to be the same way. I naturally keep my hands up but now i'm more aware and getting better at that stance. I want to learn all the stances boxers use. I hate to sound cliche but which stance muhammad ali used?
i like to play around with it sparring,i know its not advised to have hands low,but I know what u mean, its best when u are at distance n feeling opponent out,n tightn up the closer u get,but were i train its so dull training,no flair,I enjoy this 'freestyle' side of it,the science and just playing around with it,but a lot of gyms just train strict rules,I think so many amateur trainers do a tiny bit,Mayb a few fights n decide to open gyms before they even know the the science n artt
I would really aprreciate if you answer this question. The problem is that i cant coordinate my feet with my punches.. I mean when u throw a punch you have to move your legs and your whole body to that direction and sometimes i dont time my feet well..Does anyone knows how can i improve it?
i think No 9 is a little off. Turning you're feet like that wen moving backwards dos not feel that sound, i would take that out. Otherwise it was solid : )
Hello Johnny, some time ago i had a problem with pain in my left side (my kidney) i asked you, do any boxers have problem like that? ( you said i shold see a doctor ), but i kept training, i trained trough my pain... and it stopped, i feel very good and can go 9 rounds in sparring without pain.. i just wanted inform you ( if your interested in your fans), thanks for all your work, really appreciate it :) and thanks for informing me about JTVAN, that dude is a king :D
Hey guys, I'm a sixteen year old boxer from Ireland and I'd love if you could check out my latest fight and give me your feedback on it and maybe even leave a ''like''! That'd be great! Thanks!

expertboxing do you wear boxing shoes on the street then also? ive been using skate shoes i never have any mention problems with them, there pretty flat so you can stand on the board n thick to take impacts.
FuckMySubscribers aus hahah why would you ask if he wear boxing shoes on the street.
Jay Cole uh the skateboard should be an indication as to my poor attitude.
FuckMySubscribers aus That's funny. If you were implying the use of boxing footwork in a street fight, it would not be very effective since the streets are not flat and smooth.
great boxing tips sir. I always watch them back from time to time. especially when I get discouraged.
Nice and fluid
Being relaxed and fluid is always an advantage
Yeah alot. I'm learning soo much more from you than the coaches who are training us. Thanks alot. They haven't even taught us how to block (lucky me my dad boxed).
Your videos and your website are awesome! Keep it up and thank you from Italy!
Thank you so much for these tips! These will be extremely helpful for the kids in my gym to know.
I love the videos from this guy. I want him as my personal trainer.
Great video, my coach has been telling me I'm too flat footed whilst sparring. These tips will help a lot, especially in regard to energy expenditure.
Move from toe to heel
This video rules the world. Thanks
That's huge news. I'm happy for you. We should do a boxing session one day.
i really liked the tips on pointing your feet in different directions as well as lowering your hands. i usually stay outside of the bubble with my hands down. i would get confused at why it was harder to move around when i was shadow boxing with my hands up. great tips homme!
Nice, that's one of my favorite moves too.
Everything takes practice. That's a truth for developing any skill.
Non-stop for me. If it's demanding, that means you haven't figured out how to really relax on the jump rope and not quite used to it yet. You can always slow down a bit but don't stop.

I appreciate the video, great video and great tips. This will help me a lot.
I just started last week to get in shape and this si a great video easy to follow
Thank you very much for the advice and the informative video, I only wish I had become fascinated with boxing sooner.

That's explained in the video and article.
This is such an easy to follow video. Thanks man. Does practice make perfect when it comes to these boxing moves?
good points.
my 5 cents

Good one!
good job.
It's only a mistake, if you don't intend to do it. If you do something intentionally and are aware of the consequences, it's not a mistake.
Hey, gud vid man. But u got any tips on how 2 get faster reflexes cos im a beginner in amateurs n i get banged out every sparring round cos all da uv guys r experienced n much faster dan me. Also if u drop ur hands dat means ur reaction time increases? Thankssss

Depends where u wanna hit and the position of your opponent
So, what are the boxing benefits of running?
Last tip on lowering you hands I watched alot of mike tysons old fights and his hands always was up to his face. In the earlier years he lowered them but in the later years as he progressed they stayed near his face.
Mike tyson has a peak a boo stance hence his hands is always near his face.

focus on moving first and then throwing a punch, practice it slowly just to improve your coordination and then try to do it faster.
Karol Karszyn thanks bro
hi how to avoid fear while fighting... am scared to fight
i thought you were nonito donaire. lol. btw nice infos there sir!
What shoes are those? link?
i think No 9 is a little off. Turning you're feet like that wen moving backwards dos not feel that sound, i would take that out. Otherwise it was solid : )
I like to use basket shoes cuz their light so they allow you to do move ur foots faster
Anything is better than nothing, but boxing shoes are definitely better than basketball shoes.
Last tip, usually fighters that have quick reflexes does that. I laughed 2:27. Look like someone dragging you along by the hair as punishment.
Just an idea, a visualization.
This guy is just everything ! Thanks for all the amazing tips
Tammy Cyster You're very welcome!
