- Factory pin tires for 1.9? Oh yes!
Finally, no more 'cut-n-shut' at the workbench with scissors, super glue and perfectly good 2.2" tires going under the knife. We put RC4WD's latest rubbery goodness to the test on the obvious candidate, the Axial Capra UTB18. And this one has had a little work done already...

As always awesome video thanks for the update on those new pin tires it looks like they are going to great performers. Keep up the great work look forward to the next video!!!
Thanks
Loving the mini class content. Tyres look great.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Craig we talked the other day I just bought the danchee ridgerock and drove it the other day for the first time and man I’m hooked. Crawling is the shizzzz. Any way got a axial ax 24 on the way as I like the 4ws. Just thought I’ll let you know. I’m learning so much from you and just wanted to show my appreciation. Thanks heaps brotha 🤘🤘🤘
Awesome, enjoy!
It was really nice to see the tires conform to the rocks. I was concerned the rig wasn't heavy enough to make the foams work.....but they did a pretty good job. I look forward to seeing how the tires work once you thin out the tread a bit. Thanks for sharing!
The foams feel just right for a lightweight rig like this. You'd want firmer foams for anything heavier, I think.
That was oddly satisfying watching it almost glide over the rocks. Very capable machine you've built yourself. Well done sir! I hope the pinseekers work out for you.
Take care!
Thanks!
That was awesome 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Great video as always
I feel a mini build calling my name. These look awesome and I've been diving into the research on them haha
They're great - and it's really something to see a bunch of them on the rocks on comp days. Really fun little things!
I appreciate you making videos about them. There is definitely not a lot of info. I know a friend with a 3D printer who I might have print one of your chassis for. I'll forsure make some videos about it if Im able to get around to it👍🏻@@RCTNT
Awesome, enjoy the exploration. I'm confident you'll be glad you did!
It looks incredible and I think its very cool that your sharing it with us! It would be cool to see all the comp stuff grow and just RC in general! @@RCTNT
Very awesome man!!
9:45 I didn’t know you played the fiddle! 😝
No no you misunderstood, I don't play the fiddle. I need to snip some of those lugs off, *then* I'll have a fiddle. No guarantees it'll sound good though.
@@RCTNT seems a waste to buy such nice tires, only to make them into a fiddle, but you do what you like!
It'll be great, don't worry
Yup gotta get these!
Been trying to decide what to put in my babay Capra.
Want to try your chassis it looks so nice!
Those wheels rcawd sent you too!
Made a difference, eh!
I finally got tired of the high pitch noise from my Castle SW4 with my 1950KV Holmes Hobbies Classic. I went with the new Holmes Hobbies V3 ESC. Totally silent! Great review of the new tires!
Very nice, I've been watching those on their ig. Looks like a great esc!
Zero problems‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
Haha yes, no problem at all
Cool to watch the little UTB make short work of the 6 problems. I can only imagine how these would work in their X2SS compound. Maybe that's too soft for small pins? Their Baja Claw in X2SS are great
Hm yeah, I'm not sure there. I'd always want the softest compound for pins on a comp crawler. I'd be curious to see the difference..
Great review, thx! Wondering if the performance held up once they were dusty and not so new? And how do you like them compared to 1.9
Rovers?
Good timing, I just ran the 1.9 rovers yesterday at a comp. They gripped amazingly well but I really missed the extra height of the RC4WD pins.
Watch this to see how the pins worked in dirt and wet rocks: th-cam.com/video/isiTjDfnzd4/w-d-xo.html
First place went to someone running the Rovers. My current thinking is that diy rovers cut from 2.2 tires into a roughly 4.19" tire would be best, but the RC4WD pins are so close behind I'll just go back to running them. They're simply excellent.
Very cool to see this in a 1.9! Question for yas. I got a used capra and it has a Holmes revolver motor and a castle micro esc also. It has that same sound to. So it's the esc causing that?
Yep, it has to do with the PWM frequency in the esc, related to speed of operation of voltage modulation to the motor. Lower modulation results in lower heat and load in the esc, but more shrill noise. Higher rates means higher heat in the esc, but a quiet motor. For a tenth scale rig like the Capra, you might consider the AM32 as a good replacement, or the Holmes V3 brushless esc. You could sell the castle esc, they tend to hold their value.
@@RCTNT Thank you !
I called them I see spiders that's what it looks like when they going over the rocks Anthony's Auto truck though
Oh yeah wouldn’t nail clippers be a good tool for clipping of some studs of the tires as they are already roundish 🤔
Use em if you've got em. I like flat edged wire snips, they're fast and precise, but totally use whatever you have.
Did you glue the foams to the inside of the rims or tyre? My foams move around on side hill and the top of the tyre has slop, could my rims be to wide?
Didn't glue the foams, no. I don't think I ever have. Your foams may be too narrow for your rim, or vice versa, yeah.
Thanks. They are the rims off the Ecto. Will look into this.
@tjmgti that makes sense, then. These tires are skinny, designed for thinner comp style beadlock wheels, I think.
I think Injora launched 1.9 pins 1 week before injora
Oh yeah? I'll have to take a look!
Been wondering why these aren't available.. they work so well on my fcx24
Oh same, it's been bugging me for 6+ years! I'm so pleased these are finally a thing!
@@RCTNT Yep, I'm ordering a set asap.
Will you be testing one of the flavours of the RhinoESC AM32 ESC's?
Yep, it's already in one of my 2.2 comp rigs I'll be showing soonish. It's already been on the channel, on the Newhaven comp day with the Bushido. I like it.
th-cam.com/video/oV6FQLUj4tw/w-d-xo.html
@RCTNT excellent! I really like it too! I bought one recently to replace a Furitek Lizard 10 that was a disappointment.
Two very different systems. This is a good little unit. I'm consisting a 40A one for my utb18.
That 18th scale just solved 6 problems like it was a 10th scale...
Haha yes indeed it did
