The style of this episode, with Jerimiah showing up randomly and that. This was the best episode of anything on donut. Not even because there was a wreck.
Love how High Car has been a huge moneypit in this series. It's proving that a less expensive car can be in a better place to build, if you know what you're doing.
stuffing a car with every bit of cash isn't great for longevity, but you know what is? OUR SPONSOR RAID SHADOW LEGENDS. but also, rooting for low car this time around
As a Subaru WRX owner, this series is hella accurate. This is also proving why I don't track my WRX. It's much happier being driven off road like a rally car!
@flippy5118I’d assume it’s easier on the engine, because if you go full ham on power it’ll die for other reasons, for example a tree. But yeah it’s definitely harder on all the suspension and chassis stuff
The drivetrain is under significantly less stress on loose surfaces vs pavement. All the people confused about that should stop tryna be a TH-cam mechanic lmfao
@@johnnycash3396 that’s compounded by what I said previously, which is that if you were to push the drivetrain as hard as it could go, you would likely crash unless you’re Travis Pastrana or something. Though on a rough loose surface your suspension and chassis will take an absolute beating
the last 10 minutes of this video has to be some of the best, most heartfelt, funny media I have seen in a long long time. It's like top gear but for our generation. I was cheering when you pulled the green screen back to show another clapped out WRX. Legends, the ebay motors ad during the brake fade test was hysterical, so was the donut media merch bit next to the totalled old high car. Awesome awesome video, I can really see the progress you're all making with how well these are filmed, how funny some of the moments are, how genuine the connection between you all feels. This one is really really good guys, well done. Next payday I'm buying some fricking merch, hope it helps with however many more EJs you'll need.
I like the way you guys have been integrating the ads into the testing instead of completely cutting to a skit or ad read. It really helps the flow of the the video.
@@pedromegashit9999 Lol i missed the part where i was salty, but anyways, Donut's been bought by Venture Media not long ago (start of the year i think ?) who also own The Drive, and only care about views, exposure, and money. Since then, Donut went from chill car channel with good content (science grage, og money pit, etc..) to reaction vids, ridicule thumbnails aimed at kids and reviewing fucking zipties... so please don't call this "good content"
Legitimately going above and beyond for a series people love, for the heart of a community, it would be easy to call it quits and make an apology video. But easy isn't worth it. Never stop pulling boys
you do realize they are paid to makes these series by ebaymotors right? taking the sponsors money but failing to create content advertising it is not an option. You're sounding hella parasocial...creepy that you don't recognize people acting for the cameras in their content.
@@Lgs260495 Yeah, but James said multiple times that he is a newbie in this racing thing. So it's not surprising and everyone could be in his seat. It's easy to fly off a track without routine.
I really like the series. I would say that in this test we only got half the story. I would have liked to see the fade comparison on the pads. Unless I missed it low car didn’t have the same pads which is huge. Those decide effective heat ranges. So one is good at hot laps but when cold has no bite. Daily driver pads tend to stay towards the colder side since they don’t brake back to back in any way like a track care does. The rotors are the same size which means the same surface area for contact and heat dissipation. The composition might decide how effective they are in the long run but not like the pads will. At least I can’t see a reason they wouldn’t. I’ve really wanted an AP kit even before the series and what I was told by them is their kits bread and butter is it’s rebuilding capability. It also doesn’t use rubber seals like stock brakes or for instance the sti brembos which melt under hot lap stress. I guess for this and future videos I’d like to see the same pad being used so we know it’s the other components shining not the pad qualities. Also a stock ej255 isn’t a great race choice engine in my opinion. I’ve had much better luck with either built versions of ej255/257 or the 2L. They tend to take it better. I’ve had the same used 207 and 205 for race days for a couple years now. Are these run on pump tunes only? E85 is especially nice for track days. Could have helped save the engines at least longer. Mitigate knock and detention events with high temps and high egts. I know there was a lot of back lash on the series for the light it painted on Subarus. They are reliable but they have less “fuck around and find out” room as say a Honda which is more forgiving. The general support mods do wonders for longevity on these. Just takes time dealing with them to know. Still enjoy it. Think its a combination of things causing the many failures occurring.
This video made me happy because I got the feeling from recent videos that Jobe had lost his drive and seemed like kinda "what am I doing here" but after this one got back on track, damn, he is full of energy and on it like a pro. Missed ya bud, Donut wouldn't be donut without ya.
I think it was because for some reason donut stopped making actual car videos and kept doing reaction videos and thats not what Jobe signed up for when he applied for the job
You can tell much of the second half of the video was unplanned, however, they still kept it entertaining and kept the same charm throughout. Handled it like professionals 👏👏
"You can tell much of the second half of the video was unplanned" really? what tipped you off? crashing high car, replacing high car with a new vehicle, or Job literally explaining that they built the car over the weekend and that most of the guys weren't available to film with the new car? what a braindead comment.
9:48 Never pump the brakes, just push once and hold for each cycle of bleeding. Being a closed system pumping feels like you create more pressure but it's actually causing air and fluid in the system to become frothy. A single push and hold for each bleeding cycle will give you way better results. Improper bleeding can cause brake fade.
The boys never give up. Love to see it. And I'll be completely honest, Jeremiah showing up last minute kind of brought a twinkle to my eye. Beautiful moment.
@@sdaafasfad The problem is this generation and after. First gen, bug eye and blob eye have none of these problems, specially first gen. I don't know what happened in Subaru but over the years, WRX and STI became less rally focused and more "civilian"...
I think you should have tried using the same pads for both brake set ups to determine if the money was better spent on the low kit with high dollar pads. Or if the included pads are the weak point of the setup. Love the content!
dont worry James youre more than qualified to do hi-low and any other donut series! youre so qualified that you inspired me and my gf to start our own project car together. thank you for introducing us to this wonderful world of car tuning!!!
I swear Nolan got better and better in racing. He's now so far from who Nolan i know earlier Donut era. He might be the intelligent guy with glasses who know much about car but he's not like Zach or Jerry, who seem have more experience in racing and car building back then. But now, he's among them. Or should i say, he's the best of them in my opinion. I don't know why i feel so proud when he set the best lap time and keep on going episode by episode. Maybe because I've been following Donut for so long that i can see his progression. I want to be him. Not that i don't care about other crews but this is what i can say about Nolan Sykes.
Change the pads out on the cheap brakes and they'll be almost the equal of the AP's. Older AP's used the same style bolted rather than floating discs, bolted caliper, and aluminium pistons. I've got 330mm AP CP5200's on my 300bhp Blob and even then, the right pads for the right job make all the difference. For fast road I'm a fan of Brembo HP2000's and for harder driving I like the PFC range. You can pick up replica calipers from Compbrake for £400 a pair, and they are identical. After 10+ years on Scottish roads my calipers are showing signs of heavy galvanic corrosion so I'll be looking at replacements at some point, and the Compbrake CP5200 replicas are the likely candidates. Pads and discs make all the difference. As long as the caliper can dissipate heat and has the right size pistons, it'll be a massive upgrade over stock for 99.9% of people.
I've crashed a couple cars, and it always hurts me to see that storm of emotion on James's face after he snaps the axle. I think it's the only time that he hasn't come across as a happy guy; I'm sure he's pissed during a lot of videos (because life) but that's the only time I remember it showing on his face. I always just wanna give him a hug. And I do love the witty merch plug 30 seconds later! Hilarious!😂

Yeah was going to say that is the normal route. But they might have been trying to go for same size rotors. I cant remember but i think the STi rotors are smaller.

So glad James and Jerry are ok! Also glad that you guys are committed to putting out great content that you worked overtime to get another car and keep it going! Hopefully Hi car’s luck turns around soon 😂
Would have loved to see the same pads in both calipers. Because I'd have binned those Dickase ones, and I know how much difference decent brakes make on stock calipers. Also $850 Ferodo pads means it was $800 dollar brakes vs $5350 ones. Those Ferodo pads cost more that the entire Dickase kit.
Wish you guys used the same kind of brake pad. Pads make a huge difference. I've run some good brake pads on stock brakes and it helped a ton with brake fade and consistency. These huge discs should take car of brake fade a lot, but consistency is probably more due to unknown quality pads. Good video, very interesting results :

When the camera flew off like that I thought high car rolled over and my heart sank… I’m so glad to see high car back. It’s gonna get those lap times soon! Adam his got the moves 🎉
Was super worried for a moment there! Glad it’s not the end of the road for hi-low. Love this series
The style of this episode, with Jerimiah showing up randomly and that. This was the best episode of anything on donut. Not even because there was a wreck.
ok
ok
Love how High Car has been a huge moneypit in this series. It's proving that a less expensive car can be in a better place to build, if you know what you're doing.
stuffing a car with every bit of cash isn't great for longevity, but you know what is? OUR SPONSOR RAID SHADOW LEGENDS. but also, rooting for low car this time around
@@dadams106 I’m always rooting for lo-car because I’m a cheap bastard🤣🤣 Although I thought Tein was a budget option for suspension😅
It's a money pit through their own fault not the failure of the car/parts.
@@kabob21 not really i mean, their engine blew on the first episode iirc
The conversation at 16:40 when Jeremiah shows up was my favorite part
Shouldve raced those 2 unplanned in a video
“Floria man” 😭😭
Should’ve done a hi car low car with the F body Camaros and firebirds
Back on top boys - so good having old Donut back! The ads were absolutely perfect too 👌🏽
LoCar's blue is actually so sick, i love love love how it's now basically a staple, it looks fantastic.
I'm also happy Lo-WRX inherited Lo-Z's wheels
Lmao the fact that James plugged the zip ties right after crashing is hilarious
As a Subaru WRX owner, this series is hella accurate. This is also proving why I don't track my WRX. It's much happier being driven off road like a rally car!
I thought track is safe on a car. Rally is hard.
@Flippy beat the piss out of my sti on dirt and as soon as I went to a track day I went home needing a short block lol
0:36 Hats off to the production team. Loved that "One Shot" intro. Robert Altman would be proud!
the last 10 minutes of this video has to be some of the best, most heartfelt, funny media I have seen in a long long time.
Very well put
I like the way you guys have been integrating the ads into the testing instead of completely cutting to a skit or ad read. It really helps the flow of the the video.
Really hurts it if you run sponsorblock, but that's the point.
@@MumrikDK Wym?
@@MumrikDK yep, welcome to 2022 donut, where cash is king...
@@thicccatto6439money’s controlled the world for ages lmao don’t be salty, good content costs money to produce
Fair play Nolan for introducing the Lo brakes name without giggling at the start
I appreciate the humor, the camaraderie, and the suspense! For an accurate brake comparison, you really should have used the same pads on both brakes.
I love how you guys do the sponsors during the moment instead of breaking from the action
Well to be fair, it was lots of braking action
Clearly they've started doing this so that people are less likely to skip through that part of the video. Ingenious really.
@@zigmeisterful it is ingenious and I hate it, I just want to skip the ad lol
Legitimately going above and beyond for a series people love, for the heart of a community, it would be easy to call it quits and make an apology video. But easy isn't worth it. Never stop pulling boys
you do realize they are paid to makes these series by ebaymotors right? taking the sponsors money but failing to create content advertising it is not an option. You're sounding hella parasocial...creepy that you don't recognize people acting for the cameras in their content.
Donut - we take safety very seriously here
Also Donut - Cheap braaaaakes! 😃
And yet, the expensive car goes out of the track
The low brakes are definitely better than ur mom's Prius
Oof
@Dakshesh Gauba i mean tbh it shows not even 1 min in the vid pal :v
Jobe was 100% choking up at 15:35 - We all get attached to our projects, and you see it coming through there.
I think it was because for some reason donut stopped making actual car videos and kept doing reaction videos and thats not what Jobe signed up for when he applied for the job

The best parts in these videos is seeing the love between friends
9:48 Never pump the brakes, just push once and hold for each cycle of bleeding. Being a closed system pumping feels like you create more pressure but it's actually causing air and fluid in the system to become frothy. A single push and hold for each bleeding cycle will give you way better results. Improper bleeding can cause brake fade.
First thing I noticed. (after the chisel to the intake) :)
I've been bleeding brakes wrong then too, thanks for the tip.
Or use a pressure bleeder and don’t touch the brakes at all, I like this method the best because you don’t need a helper
The boys never give up. Love to see it. And I'll be completely honest, Jeremiah showing up last minute kind of brought a twinkle to my eye. Beautiful moment.
i just love how these guys can't stop won't stop this series. man this is why donut media really entertaining to watch

the funniest part is that they reveal LoCar’s color before the cover comes off at 2:20 😂

😂😂😂 Well said.
This is a different level of money pit lol. Maybe they should consider renaming to money void cuz of how deep it is now
If there was any reason for me not to buy a WRX, this series was it. N54 335i's are looking as reliable as K20 Civics right now in comparison 😂

High temp pads make a big difference
Yep. I bet that is exactly the case. Some red stuff ebc pads would be good
100%. 90% of the time you don't need bigger brakes, just better pads and rotors. It's if they fade seriously is when you start looking to go bigger
dont worry James youre more than qualified to do hi-low and any other donut series! youre so qualified that you inspired me and my gf to start our own project car together. thank you for introducing us to this wonderful world of car tuning!!!

He's an avid sim racer, he's got an advantage on most those guys running laps.
Jeremiah and Jobe's greeting on the track with the new Hi Car was so wholesome lol
Cringe
@@dababy1234 that's why your name is dababy
Thank you Adam for working through the weekend you’re always appreciated 🙏🏽
This started to feel like a movie after a while, this series keeps getting better
It's more like a TV show tbh
When Zach said Hi Low couldn't be finished I nearly shed a tear, what a roller coaster of emotion
Hilarious!😂
This episode of HiLow most embodied the spirit of modding cars with the types of stuff they ran into. I love this episode sm

Glad to see you guys pick yourselves up and keep going, you guys are such high motivation for me and my car enthusiasm
Im not gonna lie... I cheered, I teared up, I lost my mind all in a couple minutes. HIGH LOW is the greatest series on TH-cam.
Awesome. A good "cheap" upgrade for a wrx is always the factory STI Brembos.
Yeah was going to say that is the normal route. But they might have been trying to go for same size rotors. I cant remember but i think the STi rotors are smaller.
You guys should do rattlecan vs wrap
I can't express how much I felt the disappointment when the car gets hurt, I've been in them shoes and it's way too familiar but in the end I'm glad you guys decided to gear up and wrench down to get on the road again. Bless you guys I hope in the future this won't happen but who are we kidding if it breaks replace it 😉

15:38 that is the moment i teared up. freakingdamn it i love you all in Donut Media. thanks for the Great Series . . .!!!
Would have loved to see the same pads in both calipers. Because I'd have binned those Dickase ones, and I know how much difference decent brakes make on stock calipers. Also $850 Ferodo pads means it was $800 dollar brakes vs $5350 ones. Those Ferodo pads cost more that the entire Dickase kit.
also... in-consistent, bleed those brakes again.
Best point given... Same brake pads would have made more equal testings. Dickase brakes faded because of the street design brake pads mostly.
Im actually impressed the dicase brakes held up considering they are aliexpress brakes
Lmao the story telling on this was amazing. Jobe deserves an award. As does the whole team and company! Can’t wait to see how hi car is when it gets sorted out
The visual gag of James hitting an engine with a screwdriver at 0:37 is so good lmao. Barely caught it at first
Im so glad that its not just me whos experiences Subaru Trauma. Im from Canada, I bought a 2003 Subaru WRX from the USA and paid good money to have the guy deliver it to the USA/Canada border for me to pick up. I drove it for less then 3 days before it blew its first head gasket. Got the headgasket done professionally, two weeks after that, the other side head blew. Got that done again. Drove two months with nothing but love and enjoyment. Then the crank bearings went. Bought a new low KM motor and had it dropped in. Lasted less then 3 months before the headgasket went. Scrapped this piece of junk.
“Bleeding these brakes is the worst thing that happened to me.”
