In this episode Daniel and Mick have a look at the Xotic XW-1 Wah Pedal.
A medium-sized chassis make it a pedalboard-friendly size, while controls for bass, treble, Q and transistor bias enable you to dial in your wah tone exactly how you like it.
Mick is playing his Fender American Vintage 1962 Stratocaster, Daniel is playing is Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard reissue.
Amplifiers are a Hamstead Artist 20 and a Mallard 18-watt Plexi-style.

I’ve had this Wah since it first come out, and I still have it after all these years, it’s still the best sounding Wah
I have had one for years... its a life long pedal. If you want something different just re-adjust the controls. I don't have any dropouts what so ever...

Hey, guys. Just wanna say that not only you do have one of the best gear review channels but also the funniest! The content is always so good and I can tell you're both having lots of fun because you really love what you're doing. That's just awesome! I'm a fan. LOL =D
One important point about the features (may have been missed?)....It has a fuzz friendly buffer!
You can place this "prior to" a germanium fuzz and it sounds awesome! I believe the buffer is only on when pedal is engaged and otherwise is true (relay) bypass. If I am not mistaken.
Also, the footswitch is easier to engage than other wahs ....you don't have to stomp like killing a bug.

WARNING: This might be the best wah pedal on the market for studio work. BUT: There is a moment of silence when you turn it on, it just doesn´t kick in immediately. You won´t be able for instance to play Voodoo Chile Slight Return without annoying interruptions of the tone signal - unless you leave the wah wah effect on for the whole song.
That doesn’t matter when you play with a full band. Lmao. You playing alone in your room?
I bought a cry baby for live use. The pause is there, in any setting. In the case of Voodoo Chile, there can´t be any kind of break between clean and wah guitar.
I came across this video today, as I wanted an Xotic, and what sold me was the Grange Hill theme (which I'll learn the instant the Xotic is delivered)!!
After having watched TPS for years without seeing this video, i am disturbed to hear a laugh from Dan that is not inaudible

I'd love to see A Wah Comparison: Xotic, Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, MXR CAE, Budda, RMC, Teese, Area51, Vox
Xotic uses a relay which is super nice for turning on/off without having to stomp. Tones are similiar to others. Looks cooler and smaller. I did not like the CAE as much.

Dan did not get the Grange Hill reference. I have an XW-1 and it's a fabulous wah. Doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Sounds great, love the size, but damnit! It took me years to find a wah that I liked, I'm sticking with my MXR/CAE wah. Quite versatile in its own right.
Yes, they're great also. In hindsight we should have done a comparison, but it's great you've finally found a way you like :)
+Daniel TheGigRig It's not too late! Not just wah comparisons, but signal chain and gain management as well. I have such a love/hate with my wah. When it's good, it's funky-licious and fantastic. When it's bad, it's a gritty, screaming beached humpback whale. Help!

This is the best wah ever! I bought the Cry Baby SLASH classic wah because it has true bypass and LED's (also because it sounds good, but it has too much low end and is too loud), but this one has so much more! And that sound! I'm gonna have to buy it..
I'm sold. It has always been about the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe for me... but I'm ready for more. This is clearly more. Does it get along with germanium Fuzz (Mk 1 Tone Bender?). I will keep searching the interwebs to find out

The Exotic stands out to me.
I think this is the wah pedal for me
Ill take the dunlop 535 that does the same thing but leaves off bass and treble but gives a boost. It's much less costly than the xotic.
is that the most close pedal in sound to the italian vox wah?
I have a Roger Mayer Red Lion wah and a JEN Cry Baby with the green Fasel inductor. Don't need another wah but this one is really, really, really sweet.

I think it's probably just because Mick is closer and they thought it would be funny. If Dan is endorsing this wah pedal I imagine he uses it himself.

im curious I bought this pedal and when it is engaged in the up position my guitar sounds muted when I play the higher frets.I also get a volume drop.Why does this happen.
Are you sure the Q is not controlling the depth rather than the width of the frequency range? It sounded like it was getting more intense, otherwise you would hear the actual note of the frequency more which would sound rubbish, turning it down just made the effect more subtle.
The label is wrong if it's not working as they've described. A Q label means you're adjusting the size of the frequency band.

Hey Dan - what's the noise level like ? I have a Dunlop Joe Bonamassa Wah which sounds great but it's very hissy when used with distortion etc
Five years ago, however, there is virtually no noise with the Xotic Wah. The Fulltone Deluxe is very quiet as well. The Xotic Wah and Jam Waackoo Wah are my favorite wah pedals of all time. Both very expensive as far as Wah pedals go. Get what you pay for. TD

I have tried almost every wah pedal out there, is there one that does not cut down the Highs when plugged into it ? All I have tried does a noticeable tone suck .

Hi John, straight in front. It has a really great true bypass and seeing as you have to step on it anyway, it makes sense to me to have it straight in the front :)

If that wah wah will have its optical brother I will bought it in a split of a second. Because in real life and real gig when you are playing guitar and sing at the same time, it is not easy to use wah pedals with switches
