Only in Hawaii, would they outlaw a bike for a kid! We have an electric bike that goes 20 miles an hour. It’s fantastic, we’re older and cannot pedal all damn day! If kids are riding too fast, then find a way to license them like a motorcycle, but they’re not dangerous unless you are reckless. They’re fantastic and one of the best inventions in our century.

Way too many cars in Hawaii increasing road maintenence as it is. Some are too heavy & overaized for the roads as much as they are unecessary as one person driving a large truck or SUV not for work, but to get around, so why not an electric bike? Oahu has good transit to help reduce car traffic. Maybe peoole should try to find alternatives to driving, maybe improve their overall health at the same time. So please stop picking on & harrasing people that have solved problems with traffic congestion & health. Also be a better driver, & be aware of everyine outaide your car, not just other cars.

the problem is evident in the video provided... those aren't ebikes, they're e motorcycles/mopeds that are being called e bicycles.. e motorcycles and mopeds are manufactured to make enough noise so you can hear them coming, for safety.. in my area that is part of the law, they HAVE TO make noise for safety of pedestrians.. they need to change the laws to make these what they are, which is NOT an ebike... every actual ebike i have seen is very quiet, and won't go nearly as fast as an e motorcycle or moped...

they're confusing e bikes with e moto. e bikes are electric bicycles. e motos are electric motorcycles. some might have pedals but you can't pedal them like an electric bicycle or e bike.
by their definition, the surron you see at the start of the video is illegal. 🤔they should sort that out first instead of grouping them together like that. class 3 faster e motos can be regulated differently than e bicycles/e bikes.

I'd just like for them to loosen the laws on speed limits for ebikes. 15.5mph is baby slow.

People need to choose their battles. Either you have gas bikes way louder doing the same thing or you have ebikes. Do you want no bikes at all? Do you want bikes only in certain places? People who are against them present the problem but never present a solution nor have they any idea what it's like to even ride one of these. Who are you concerned for, the safety of yourself from wheelies or the safety of those doing the wheelies? If its the safety for those doing it, leave them alone thats their own perogative. If its for your safety, go get on an ebike and see how much fun you are missing out on and educate yourself so that you have valid arguments. We can't have people who have never riden one, never sat on one, telling us what we should be doing with them because they just don't understand. I admit these can get pretty fast but so can motorcycles and we don't ban those and they are much more dangerous. And how do you have noise concerns about ebikes and not for anything else... Really?.... And the argument with the 12 year old riding an ebike and criticaly injured could be anyone on any bike, there is an agenda here presenting those facts to sway people to believe these things are the most dangerous bikes, it's like any other bike. If you don't know how to ride it, obvioulsy you are going to get hurt which is unfortunate.

Oregon just dumped the class system for a speed limit. Just like cars, problem solved.

The "complex" part that was not even addressed by the journalist is that there are e-bikes that have 750 watt electronic lockouts but their internal motors and battery system can actually handle more, a lot more. And there's a backdoor that allows the operator to exceed this limit with a couple of button manipulations. They can go back and forth on it. So they can remain in compliance and be on the road with the lockout on, and can even show that to be the case. But again, the operator can defeat it and unlock well over a thousand watts if they wanted to.
