  • I mean, c'mon. He could easily just go after Kenobi himself.
    Besides, don't they have TIE fighters on that Star Destroyer?
    Haven't they invented tractor beams yet?
    So many questions...

      Eh, it makes sense inasmuch the Empire was chiefly concerned with capital ship-versus-capital ship engagements. This is why it skimped heavily on their air superiority craft, and was a major component to the destruction of the Death Star. Only a select few officers, like Grand Admiral Thrawn, wanted to change military doctrine to adapt to countering guerrilla warfare.

      @TheBacknblack92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not really. That's not in character for vader. It's an allusion to AotC battle of geonosis. Padme falls out of the ship and anikan orders the entire gunship to turn around. He would've left Obi Wan on his own to fight dooku to save padme. Obi had to negate the order and tell anikan to stop being an idiot
      There is bad writing in the series but this isnt one of those incidents. An emotional vader acts irrationally. All vader is thinking at the time is that he wants to get Obi Wan. He doesn't even care about the rebel ship compared to obi wan. By diverting the star destroyer it forces Obi Wan to find the nearest planet to land on rather than just running all across the galaxy away from vaders ship
      Bad writing would be figuring out how obi got off the planet without being blasted away by the high inquisitor

    You know, when you look back at the OT and see how everytime the Millennium Falcon - a highly maneuverable transport that handles itself like a Starfighter and not some bulky transport - was chased by a Star Destroyer, it never comes out of it unscathed. Lets go over a few examples, shall we?
    -A New Hope. Gets chased by two, its deflector shields fail (hits are taken off screen) and jumps to lightspeed. Only minor damage.
    -Empire Strikes Back. Chased by a grand total of three after escaping Hoth with Tie Fighters constantly on its trail. Han remembers the Y-axis plane exists, and flees into a dense Asteroid field. Falcon gets nailed by an asteroid impacting the hull. "That wasn't a laser blast - something hit us!"
    -Empire Strikes Back. Take a really *nasty* blow from the Star Destroyer 'Avenger' that the thing actually is knocked around a bit.
    -Empire Strikes Back. The Executor Super Star Destroyer and Tie Fighters fire funnels the Falcon to get a solid position to get Tractor Beam'd, since Vader wants Luke alive. Probably the only chase sequence that it doesn't take any hits.
    -Return of the Jedi. Shields at least once in the heat of a giant ass battle. Later loses sensor dome inside the Death Star.
    The whole fact that the Star Destroyer 'Devastator' could not hit a frickin transport the size of a Corellian Corvette and yet the OT had the Falcon take damage virtually every single time it has been chased is nothing short then ridiciouless. Can we have like, competent bad guys please? I liked it back when the Empire was always considered to be a significant threat, not an absolute joke.

    Honestly, my “suspension of disbelief” for the sake of enjoying star wars has pretty much gone entirely dry. After watching a bunch of storm troopers get knocked out from being bonked on the freaking HELMET (which exists almost entirely for that explicit purpose) for the billionth time, I just feel like my intelligence as a viewer and one who enjoys a good story is insulted on a regular basis. It’s clear neither Disney or Lucasfilm have any respect for intelligent storytelling.

    The entire point of the flashbacks and Vader’s previous actions was to show how Anakin/Vader was so arrogant and hyper-fixed on beating Kenobi that nothing else mattered. The entire reason Kenobi chose to separate from the group was because he knew that Vader would pursue. The writers didn’t overlook this, the Grand Inquisitor literally questioned Vader’s actions as he was doing it.

      This was a low moment even for him. Even if he was being super irrational and emotional he’s not stupid enough to forget that he has hundreds of TIE fighters on board that could continue the pursuit while he goes after kenobi

    • @nolanjoseph1553
      @nolanjoseph1553 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was, people are pretending that the writers missed something despite the fact that the grand inquisitor literally questioned Vader on his actions in the very same scene. They established multiple times that Vader was willing to sacrifice anything to catch Kenobi, and that his hyper-fixation on Kenobi is the entire reason that Kenobi chose to separate from the refugees in the first place.

      it still makes no sense of how a STAR DESTROYER was UNABLE to destroy a SMALL SHIP. this proves how lazy the writers are. if you like this show, you’re most likely woke and pathetic.

  • @nicholastruman1273
    @nicholastruman1273 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    they did track them though. The Emperor brings it up. Also, Leia getting back safe despite being tracked makes sense because Leia is the daughter of a “member” of the Empire, and was just bait in Vader’s eyes. Now that he faced Kenobi, there is no reason to mess with her getting back home, as Vader has no justification for further pursuit or harm of ANY kind to her. He does, however, have one more previous experience (that’s still Canon) to cause reason to doubt her, which comes up in A New Hope. It’s not a hole.
    This show DOES have problems with continuity and logic in the writing at times, but I did not think this was an example of that. It was just an example of telling but not showing.

    Most of yall are kind of missing the point. Vader diverting the entire star destroyer to go after obi wan is very in character. This scene is supposed to allude to one that happened during the battle of Geonosis during AotC. Padme falls out of the ship and Anikan orders the entire gunship to go back and save her. Obi Wan negates his order and tells him to stop being an idiot, capturing Dooku is more important
    Point is, when vader/anikan gets emotional he stops thinking rationally. Without the guidance of obi wan he makes the stupid decision
    The grand inquisitor even sees that vader is being stupid but bites his tongue
    It fits vaders character that hed divert an entire star destroyer to go after obi wan, even if there were other options had he stopped and thought about it

      No, Vader has evolved past his hot-headed stage. If you look at the OT, he never lets his emotions get the best of him, even when facing Luke or Obi Wan.
      When he's fighting Obi Wan, he fights super carefully and searches for the weak spot, instead of attacking moved by rage. He strikes a powerful blow only when he's sure he will kill Obi Wan.
      In the first fight against Luke, he manipulates him and uses fear to his advantage. He is never controlled by the fact he's Luke's father, and even uses it to his advantage.
      In his final fight against Luke, even if he's conflicted, he still never lets his emotions to distract him from his objective, which is turning Luke.
      The whole point of Vader was to showcase how different he was from Anakin in every way, including his approach to emotional situations. The real Vader would have chased Obi Wan by himself while sending the Star Destroyer after the rebels.
