Thanks Roger. My stereo amplifier has an optical input. Can i use the optical out from the arc adapter to the amplifier and rca out to subwoofer both at the same time?
Hi Joseph. Unfortunately the optical output from the adapter is a fixed level, so the sub and main speakers would not stay balanced as you adjust the volume.
Marantz M1 Stereo Amp would be good for TV it has HDMI eArc. Dolby Digital + Dialogue Enhancer Subwoofer Output with Bass Management crossover settings
Agreed, the Marantz M1 checks all the right boxes for TV Stereo and is a quality product. It's nice to get a recommendation in the comments. Thanks. There are also more affordable options for people who can't or don't want to drop $1,000. These include the stereo you already own with an inexpensive adapter.
You won't get LFE channel from a Stereo Amp, just 2ch PCM you need a AV Receiver as they have Digital Decoders for Movie Soundtracks, like Dolby Digital & Dts which sound better than 2ch PCM Horror movies sound great in Surround sound get jump scares from sound effects in speakers behind you, does not give same effect from just front Stereo speakers on a Stereo Amp
That is true you don't get a dedicted LFE channel but you are in effect creating one using the crossover control. The low frequencies are present in the stereo mix but a pair of stereo speakers even large ones, just can't deliver the low frequency power needed to give you jump scares. With an LFE channel you turn the subwoofer crossover fully clockwise and let the receiver manage the crossover. IF you don't have an LFE channel you need to adjust the crossover to have the sub take over right at the point the main speakers run out of gas. The sound effects are then quite convincing The question as to wherther you want sound to come from all around you or only in front of you is a very individual choice. I believe there is not a best or right answer to that. It's just a matter of which we find most enjoyable for the kind of movies we like to watch.
Another great video for audio noobs like myself, thank you, I learned a few new things.
you sir have given me some more ideas of things to try in my spare time :) Thank you for your work on this!
