hello, very helpful information. Do you think it would be possible to amplify a 5.1 ARC signal with a mini amplifier? (front, center, rear) Can't find much
It would be nice if someone made an inexpensive ARC to 5.1 converter but I've never seen such a thing. If you use only a Fire TV stick Roku Apple TV or Chromecast for your TV rather than broadcast or smart TV apps, you could use this device that would go between the video streamer andTV amzn.to/3BS5595. Problem is it's $60 and by the time you've boght it and the mini amps and cables youd be better off buying a AV receiver with ARC. They start at under $250 but I've seen working ones at thrift stores for as little as $25
Hi, I got sound to come through with Tendak HDMI ARC Audio Extractor listed by you, however the sound is "muted". Are there other settings I need to adjust?
High Larry The normal reason for low sound output is that you have more than one volume control in the audio chain. The TV or audio system may be set low and you are hitting maximum volume on the other. Another possibilty is that you have a different input selected on the audio system than the TV is connected to. It appears to be right because you hear the TV but that is actually only sound leakage from one input to another.
This video gives some more detail on the ARC adapter and how it is different to other adapters. You can find the adapter that I use at this link, amzn.to/4iasuDn
my question is does the HDMI ARC on the TV pass audio through at all times, reason I ask is I have a Roku streaming box connected to one of the HDMI ports on my TV and it needs to be selected as input on TV settings so you can't select 2 input/outputs
Yes, The ARC port outputs the audio regardless of which HDMI input is selected, or even if the TV is not using an HDMI input for example when it is receiving a broadcast over an antenna, or is playing from it's own apps over WiFi.
Great video Roger, really appreciate your easy to follow instructions for tech challenged people like me ( I'm a senior) question. I have a 1988 NAD receiver with 2 great speakers. Can I connect to my Panasonic viera ( with arc + 1) and a steaming box ...so as to get better sound than my soundbar which is awful for dialogue and volume? Many thanks and look forward to more of your videos.
Hi Bernie Your quality components will create a really great, enjoyable system. I have a Panasonic Viera TV the picture is really nice but the HDMI ARC only works with a few devices and even then requires periodic restarts. This may just be my TV. The optical works really well on that TV though. Your 1988 NAD predates optical connections so you will need an adapter for optical or ARC, To avoid having the dilemma of having to choose which adapter without knowing for sure if ARC will work. This adapter has both. www.amazon.com/Extractor-Converter-Tendak-Digital-Optical/dp/B0C2CYZ6TP?pd_rd_w=OkaBv&content-id=amzn1.sym.225b4624-972d-4629-9040-f1bf9923dd95%3Aamzn1.symc.40e6a10e-cbc4-4fa5-81e3-4435ff64d03b&pf_rd_p=225b4624-972d-4629-9040-f1bf9923dd95&pf_rd_r=VCFN9EYQBZD9H1ESHNK2&pd_rd_wg=AcPS3&pd_rd_r=75bd954f-4920-4ae6-8b76-5825f06a1c5c&pd_rd_i=B0C2CYZ6TP&linkCode=ll1&tag=rogergadgetgu-20&linkId=2e67e4635911083d216e809310c7fe09&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl Try the HDMI ARC first because of the convenience of using the TV remote for volume control. If that doesn’t work then use the optical connection.
Hi, Some older TV's have RCA jacks. Hi there, do you have any good recommendations for alternatives to Dayton in Europe?? Using Dayton will not be on a low budget here anymore 😅 😅. Thanks in advance
Hi Bernie, There is never more than one HDMI ARC socket on a TV. You can connect a streaming box to any of the other HDMI sockets and when that input is selected to play video the audio will be automatically routed to your stereo connected to the HDMI ARC socket.
This system works fine with LG TV's, The ARC adapter and Nobsund amp are available from Amazon UK. For speakers, I heard the Cambridge Audio Minx Min 12 and 22 at a Hi Fi Show they were surprisingly good for such small inexpensive speakers. Like the Dayton speakers the subwoofer takes the sound sound of the complete system to another level.
Yes there is but more costly. Two optionns are the Arylic B50 www.amazon.com/Arylic-B50-Transmitter-APP-Support-Transmission/dp/B0BVM6BH8G?crid=2LOG8895DVWFI&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.3JeayDAXGybIb0ZSF597U8_Z9aEElsjzcszzX4fZodj7SvRYFIHUJ3cWWYno5r1sLHISTituAwSBQz1p1HmFtoyxmR1i25PH4KxOSDxvEYfJ_mgW31YEyeI9Yz3vCsX7dpvgjJ9oJ0WvuecMWJ57Jq31wpykzK14rE0qlBxuV2AeHmiGTpQt8TyxYhSnQSUsGDgvktE0Prvv2FKLaJvfpIE7IBBlrNVYM10n2vARqqk.hr7Lw_Xz8nlm023HfW7xSmBrTqMuDTjg-JFovJ4DFGc&dib_tag=se&keywords=acrylic+b50+amplifier&qid=1711824088&sprefix=Arylic+B50%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1&linkCode=ll1&tag=rogergadgetgu-20&linkId=7e4f8caa439113100415b97888a52874&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl This is a little more expensive than the two peice solution a different kind of all in one solution would be a powered speaker with an optical input like the Edifier R1280 DB with this you connect the optical cable from the TV directly to one of the speakers. These speakers work out less expensive than the Arylic amp + speakers but you don't have ARC so you would have to use the remote that comes with the speakers for volume control rather than the TV remote. Hi I have just bought an LG 48 inch c2. I want to connect my ps5 to the TV. And I want to purchase a marantz slim (only av receiver to fit in my front unit) I understand old models don't do vrr 120hz etc. So solution is ps5 to lg c2. Earc to marantz. I am just wondering if it work with all marantz or only earc marantz. If you can give some advice will be very grateful. :)
Hi Liam, You do not need to have any concerns about the older Marantz working with your TV without eARC. You correctly identified the one real issue which is the video capability. For the audio, an older receiver will work perfectly with ARC for Stereo or 5.1 Surround sound. Optical also works just as well if the receiver is so old it doesn't have ARC. You would only need eARC if you wanted Dolby Atmos (or DTS X ) which would also require a receiver with the right decoder and additional speakers.
@@rogergadgetguy thanks so much for that saved me a lot of time. So I could get a nr1504. Connect the optical from the TV to it. I can get one for 140e Or do you think it would be worth getting a more expensive blue tooth slim marants nr1510 for around 350e? Thanks so much again in advance for your advice. I also see many marantz have video connecting problems syncing etc so optical hdmi sound only from tv a much better option.
Hi Liam I would not get the receiver with Bluetooth for playing audio from your phone. Bluetoth will not do justice to a good receiver like the Marantz. WiFi is a much better option. The connection is more reliable, easier and more convenient, and the sound quality is far superior. I would normally suggest a WiFi music streamer, but since you have an HDMI receiver, video streamers are a much cheaper option and work great for music, much better than bluetooth. If you have an iphone get a Roku express which supports Apple Airplay, if you have an Android phone get the cheapest 1080p version Chromecast. Both work great for audio. Use the TV ( or Projector) to set the streamer up, and once it is set up you can use it for audio only with the TV turned off. or get artist song and album art on the TV if it is turned on.
@@rogergadgetguy Hi Roger thanks so much for that suggestion. Since the receiver is only going to be taking an optical cable due to its age. Marantz Nr1504 is what I am thinking about using.
