Great video-y’all are a beautiful couple 😍 My husband and I were discussing getting married for some time before he popped the question. We also discussed what a reasonable budget looked like for us because we had other financial goals we wanted to reach together. In the end, I picked the ring I wanted from a website and our jeweler made it for us.
I designed my ring and my fiance just had to pick it up whenever our jeweler called him (I didn't know when that would've been) 😂 BUT, I said I wanted the actual proposal to be a surprise, haha
That's awesome! Yeah, I totally agree that the proposal itself should definitely be a surprise (even if the ring was picked out beforehand). We know another couple who just did the same as you explained, and it worked out well! Thanks for sharing, Alicia!
When we knew were getting married, I was aware that my fiance did not have a lot of money. He had recently graduated with his master's and had student loan debt to pay off. I definitely did not want to put him on further debt! So, I chose a white sapphire set in white gold instead of a diamond for my engagement ring. My ring cost about 75% less than it's diamond equivalent!! Fast forward, on our 10th anniversary, my husband purchased for me a 10 stone diamond ring set in 14KWG. I was ecstatic!!! For richer or poorer? Well, my husband certainly let me know how things were going!!!!
Wow! That's so awesome! There's nothing like having that first ring as a memento and then upgrading years later. Congratulations on 10 years! Sounds like you and your husband have a great love story, and that's amazing. 😊
You and your wife are adorable and I completely agree with your video. Romance and love are more important than the physicality of the ring. I was fully surprised by my husband and it was amazing!
Thank you so much, Rashell! So cool to know you were wonderfully surprised by your husband as well. Hope you both continue to enjoy a wonderful marriage!
I have shared with my boyfriend the cut of diamond I would like, and in this case I think a great way for the guy to step in and make some choices himself is in the color and clarity of the diamonds! If the shape of the diamond is all that the woman specifies, another way to "save" money is to consider smaller jewelers rather than designer brands because the same ring/diamond will be much cheaper that way.
That's a great point, Rosalind! I agree that if he can at least know the type of cut you like, then that at least leaves some room for surprise. Great point as well about buying from a smaller jeweler. I wish I would have known that when I was younger!
My boyfriend at the time asked about the cut and style I liked. During a few extended phone conversations he would send me links to websites where he found rings he thought I would like so I could weigh in. One of the first rings he found was the one he ended up proposing with! He definitely kept the mystery by not discussing what he was doing and just getting feedback from me while we were dating. The style I loved was replicated by a local jeweler so he could select the diamond and customize some of the details. I am blessed that he really values my taste and personal style, so he wanted to present me with something that I would love for years to come. It is perfect, and so is he 🥰
@Rukiyat - that's so awesome to hear! Sounds like he definitely did his homework and executed the surprise to perfection. We hope all the best to you in your marriage. Congratulations! 😊
She looked with a friend and knew she wanted a halo. She thought she wanted a double halo but that only works well with tiny diamonds. Ended up going with my sister who helped a ton and got a split shank halo ring with a .9 carat LG diamond.
I provided my fiancé with pics of my ideal engagement ring and specified a carat range. He chose the date, the time, and the place of the engagement. I also preferred that no one be present besides me and him. It was intimate and Beautiful!
We had basic bands when we got married and that was fine. I picked mine, and many years laters my husband bought the rings of my dream, which I also picked. Our relationship was the most important thing.
I would 100% need to design it. I’m so picky that I would be really sad if he proposed with something random he picked🥺 like it’s hard because most women have their wedding dress and ring picked out in Pinterest for years before they even meet the one.
@Kayla, totally feel where you're coming from! That seems to be what many other women would prefer as well. At the end of the day, I think it's best for the guy to get you something that you know you'd like!
Hahaha my girl has everything neatly cataloged on pinterest lol it helps. Because I don't want to co-shop. I want the proposal to completely blind side her in banff and if we co-shop and then go on vacation to the mountains she's gonna see it coming. I don't want that lol
@@Anthonial_Mjj Lol! I totally hear you. You definitely have to be clever and discreet, which can sometimes be a challenge! I hope the proposal goes well, bro. By the way, my wife and I love Banff!
I actually looking now. This video has help. I see other videos saying buy online don’t go to the big brand stores. I’m just really confused . I know what type of ring she likes. Just confuse on where to go. Never even thought about buying jewelry online.
Totally hear you! I bought my wife's ring in person mainly because I like to see what I'm buying (especially when it's that significant!). However, there's nothing wrong with checking both places (in store and online)... you never know where you might find the best value! Main thing is not to overthink it... All the best to you on your search, bro! 👊🏽
I want to pick it cause I know all the tricks to get an engagement ring for little to no money if you go with mossanite instead of a real diamond it has the same amount of sparkle looks the same but is a fraction of the cost
I have extensive knowledge in diamonds, and lab created stones. I would prefer we discuss it as a couple and I can share this knowledge with him and web sites to go to. I feel horrible when ladies show their rings and they could get a higher quality of stone and a bigger stone that would have cost less money. With that said I would like to be surprised.
I'm just looking forward to making jokes at the jeweler. "This ring is 5000 dollars." Me: "Dang that's crazy. Must be for the girls that don't talk back." 🤣
My hubby did really good! 3 karat strawberry gold Le Vian diamond ring ❤❤❤❤ he is the best. I would accepted a 200.00 composite diamond lol but he did really good.
ladies and gents, you don't need to get a DIAMOND. there's hundreds of beautiful, genuine stones to pick from. even if you want to have that white, sparkly rock, there's a gemstone for that.
My husband surprised me with a 5 carat asscher cut diamond ring for our engagement. He has a great job so he could but I would have married him with paper rings.
Congrats, bro!! That's awesome. I know it feels great to finally be done. 👏 Any next moves lined up yet (postdoc, teaching, industry, etc)? Looking forward to see how things pan out for you!
@Shanycole - Great question! For me, I view the proposal/engagement (the ring, experience, etc) as a "gift" to the woman I'm asking to marry. In that case, I couldn't see myself letting my wife pay for a portion of the ring. Similar to Christmas or a birthday, I would never let my wife pay for a portion of the gifts I'm planning to get for her! There's something about just being able to sit back and receive! 😊
Interesting points you both bring up! @ChrisSoCalm, I wonder if any psychology studies have been done to see which cut "looks" the biggest to a person's eye. I'd be curious to know!
@@MarriageInsideOut Elongated cuts actually appear larger on the hand (oval and pear). However, the round cut offers the most brilliance. My fiancé took a risk and I hate it. Plain and simple. I think I’m more upset because I know he could have done better. I wish he had asked my opinion on what I liked. Now I’m stuck wearing a ring I would never have picked out in a million years.
I like the element of surprise… but I’ll still drop hints like “oh I just ADORE a marquis cut Diamond!”
Lol! Love it. Definitely a sly way to express what you like! 😄

A ring pop!!!! LMAO. Your right though bro. Some women just want that next step of commitment.

Boys always buy a beautiful round solitaire, if you want to surprise her, go solitaire every. single. time.
@ChrisSoCalm nope a round has the biggest face up value of any cut and hides inclusions the best but cut, clarity color before carat every time!!!

1 month. No more. Rings are a horrible investment.
