Summer in The Peak District on Triumph Bonneville T120 Motorcycle

- Riding a Triumph Bonneville T120 through the quaint hills and villages of The Peak District might be the perfect way to spend a sunny summer's day.
I had no particular destination in mind, just a vague plan to ride my motorcycle around the Peak District and enjoy the British countryside in the most British way possible, on a Triumph Bonneville.
There was no plan (there rarely is), I forgot most of my camera equipment and the replacement drone isn't quite working yet, so the video's not quite what I wanted, but hopefully you'll still get the idea of a chilled out ride on a hot day.

Thanks Nelio, that’s nice of you to say! I’m biased but I think my Bonnie looks great too 😁. The best thing is it’s all just ‘bolt on’ parts so I can return it to stock very easily.

I watched quite a few different videos on riding motorcycles all over the place. You make my most favorite writing videos. I’ve had several bikes most of them, Harleys, a few Jap bikes, but my favorite is still my 09 Speedmaster. I’m 62 now and haven’t ridden in about five years. I think a new Bonneville is just what I need right now. I’ll give you the credit for the inspiration. Keep making the videos please! Ride safe.

Gorgeous bike and beautiful scenery, close to where I grew up. Shame the weather isn't always conducive to riding. Living in North Queensland now, winter is perfect riding weather but all the roads are straight! I'm not sure which is the better trade off.

There is a proper zen quality to your videos. I really enjoy them. If I want to ride on roads that empty I have to leave the house at three in the morning. We don’t get much sun shine at that time of day. What county are you based in if that’s ok to ask.

I’m in the UK so our roads aren’t quite as empty as they look in my videos, I either go out very early in the morning or I just pull over and wait for the road to clear a bit before setting off to film, footage of me getting stuck behind a car isn’t that appealing!
Your right about those Pirelli’s I’ve got them on my t120 and I absolutely hate them I will change them very soon🙂
It’ll feel like a different bike once you get rid of them.

What brand/model is the seat? And more important, is it softer than the comfort seat from triumph (which is killing my back)?

Hey Alexandru, work can be pretty inconvenient sometimes! The seat was custom made by Hurley Custom Seats and it’s far better than the Triumph comfort one. It’s got memory foam and medical gel inserts so it’s about as comfortable as you can get, I highly recommend getting one done if you can.

Hi Alan, there’s a full run down of all the parts I’ve changed on my website, if you go to the page titled “The Bike” you’ll see it all listed out there.
My bike’s a little snatchy at low speed like most Bonnies, a lot of folk recommend fitting an X-pipe or Booster Plug, I tried the Booster plug but didn’t do much for me personally. I just pop the bike into Rain mode when I’m likely to be riding slow for more than a few mins, problem solved!
With tyres I found the Pirelli Phantoms to be almost dangerous, Pirelli MT60RS’s were brilliant in every way apart from longevity (3k mikes on a rear, 7k miles on a front). At the moment I’m trying Avon Spirit ST’s which seems really good so far, but I’ve not had them long enough to comment on how long I think they’ll last.

Lovely Matt. Very relaxing. As usual, great editing and music selection. But no drone this time? What are the drone laws in the UK? Quite honestly, it's a nightmare here in Germany/Europe; ironically I had significantly more freedom to fly in Singapore, which you won't hear anyone say often!
Glad you liked it Simon. Drone laws in the UK are a little complicated but the reason I’ve not used it is my drone got run over by a camper van on my Scotland trip 🫣, so I’m still waiting to repair it.

Helmet: Arai Profile V with the SunShade Pro Visor system, they’ve discontinued this helmet but the new ‘Debut V’ is pretty much exactly the same helmet.
The riding shirt is the new Merlin Brody.
Gloves are Helstons Condor (I think!)
Boots are Rokker Urban Racer’s.
You should be able to find most of that stuff at Urban Rider I think.
The Speedmaster video, the Jacket is a Matchless Kensington.

Thanks David, yes it’s the new Merlin Brody shirt. I really like it and it did quite well in 25-28 degrees heat when I filmed the video. It’s still much heavier than a normal shirt, I’d say it’s a similar weight to normal waxed canvas jacket (not a motorcycle one), but it’s a very stretchy material so it’s actually very comfortable. I’d say it’s quite a slim fit though so if you’re carrying more of a 12-pack than a 6-pack it might be worth sizing up 😁
@@ClassicRides thanks. I was in South and Mid Wales riding in the heat earlier this week. Amazing riding for three days but melted so am in the market for some lightweight protection.
I was thinking about a mesh Knox body armour undershirt with just a long sleeved cotton top.
Keep up the great videos. It takes quite an effort to sort the cameras and all the different views out. You’ve clearly got an eye for it.
