Hi Barry I was at your recent workshop with the friends of 54 dean street in Bologna. It was rally a great experience and Very nice to meeti you! Thanks a lot for all tips you showed us ! See you next time ! Mario
Of corse! I 'm trying your patterns one by one severa time...from.the forse now they are startene to improve. I hope to meet you again at another workshop or may be even better fishing on the river!
I've actually got all the right materials and hook for this one lol, Thank you Barry, as a complete novice to the 'DarkArt' i've learnt so much from your videos and book. Just a few weeks before the season starts, I'm looking forward to trying my winter ties, most of my attempts are from your videos! please keep them coming.
Amazing Tie Barry, I can't wait the time to attend your next workshop at 54 dean street in Italy in October...I would like to improove and ask tou some question on use of some dressing while fishing. You are the best!
Thanks again for another pattern that I will be great full to tie and fish. I truly appreciate you and the time you take to share these videos.🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🙏🙏🙏
Had to look up the danica mayfly, I'd never heard of the species or the fly pattern. Well, we don't have them in North America. The technique will be very useful for any large burrowing mayfly (e.g. hexagenia family). Thanks again for a great video.
Hi Matthew, The Danica and Vulgata mayflies (US equivalent Green drake & brown drake) are the largest European burrowing mayfly nymphs they can be up to 32mm long and live in the sand of river beds for several years before emerging and can burrow as deep as 15 metres deep in the river bed.
@@Thefeatherbender I tied 3 of them last night. Each one got better as I kept going. I tied them on size 10 as I didn't have any other hooks of that type. I will order some size 8 and 6. Also, I ordered your new book Flytying Techniques yesterday. Looking forward to diving into that. Thanks again for all you do, very inspiring for me.
Another great looking fly there sir. Looks like a fine fish catching fly that would make even the most picky of fish bite. Great fly keep them coming Mr Clarke.
I might try rhis in light olive or light brown marabou..i dont have have anything white and because of you and macphail im not allowed ordering more stuff for a while. :( lol.
A very nice tie! And you're right, you can use some of the techniques on other flies. The marabou body actually gave me an idea for a small, naturally coloured, very light/airy shrimp pattern that I have been trying to "invent". I'd like the underside of the body to resemble legs, and I've tried a lot of different techniques/materials, but so far I've not been happy about the result. Either it doesn't look too good, or the technique is too time consuming. I like simplicity, because I'm extremely slow when tying flies. This marabou body just might be the answer to what's been bugging me for about a week now. Thank you!
Thanks, and great to know. I would like to see the results when you get it done. Check out different types of Marabou there are quite a few.... Good luck.
Another nice one Barry.. But it sounds like the cold season has caught up with you all up there! It sure has over here in the PNW..Nothing worse than that annoying cough and running nose.. Hope that book is coming along with out to much trouble.. thanks again.. We'll see you in the next one!
Again a beautiful piece of art. Thank you. If I may ask kind Sir, What brand vise do you have and where would I find a vice like yours? My local fly tieing supply shop dose not have anything that looks like yours.
Hi Jason, thank you. The vice I use is a Swiss Master by Marc Petitjean you can watch my video here of Marc explaining the vice and what it does: th-cam.com/video/x9WskBbooaU/w-d-xo.html
Would you mind doing a multi-part taking from this to emerger, dun, and spinner? Danica is European, but, Green and Brown Drake (E. simulans, E. guttulata) are similar hatches in North America. The sometimes blinding hatches of these large insects brings the big girls out to dance. It's worth planning a trip to catch the hatch.
Very well presented video. Subscribed and Thanks for sharing. Never really understood why Walker’s mayfly nymph along with this one, have so much white/cream colour though? Are you able to enlighten me? Thanks
Thanks fishwish, The natural can vary a little in colour depending on the type of river bed it lives in but generally speaking its a kind of light / creamy sand colour. The dubbing will also be a tad darker when its wet.
Barry, I've been wondering about alternatives to the typical materials for nymph gills and marabou seems to be the ticket to get some lifelike wiggle. How small do think this can be tied though? Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey Barry, are you OK? I noticed that you seemed to have a little something going on with your respiratory system. With everything going on, I needed to ask. Hope all is well.
Hi Johnny, yes thanks, when I made this video I had been home with C-19 symptoms for 3 weeks, although I haven't been tested my doctor wrote C-19 on my sick note? Other than cabin fever, all good now thanks.
The feather bender Glad to hear you’re recovering. My eldest daughter and her husband each had it at the same time. Knocked them down pretty hard. I hope to go see them in a few months, if I make it. Sitting here writing this in a surgery waiting room. Not what I want to be doing, believe me. Anyhow, my daughter lives in Cleveland, Ohio, which is on the west side of Steelhead Alley. The Great Lakes have a thriving population of them. One big reason I want to go visit. Oh, by the way, we have something in common beyond flys.., I did commercial photography for about 12 years. We’ll talk more about that later. For now, glad you’re feeling better. Peace.

Nice pattern buddy. Is this Nymph a swimming mayfly or a burrower, crawler etc?
Thanks. The Danica and Vulgata nymphs are burrowers, but you can tie this in smaller sizes for swimming nymphs!

Hi Ira, absolutely right, perfect for any of the larger burrowing mayflies, just change the colour if needed.
I was wondering myself why is he tying a mayfly nymph so BIG. Most of the ones I find in my home tailwater this time of year are about a size 20
Some good techniques demonstrated here. Thank you Barry. Really enjoyed this one. Going to try tying it tonight.
