Couldn't agree more! Phenomenal flies, and excellent narration / tutorial. I've watched a lot of fly tying vids and this is among the absolute best. Thanks Barry for sharing!
Mr. Clarke, after trying this one several times I've found that a lice comb (no, I don't have a lice problem) is genius for running the deer hair parallel. For larger flies of this sort I use a moustache comb.
Mr. Ord, I took your advice and tied up just a shade darker variation of this exact fly and we had a very nice couple of days so I went to a spot I know with lots of nice pan frying sized Brookies and I tried a lot of my winter time old stand by flys that most times work fantastic but I'm not sure yet why, they didn't! I couldnt even get a follow from a Trout. Well I decided what the heck I would tie my slightly darker version on this exact fly and on the first cast I hooked up and in a matter of 20 minutes (not kidding a bit either I actually looked at my watch) I had a daily limit of 6 fish ! These were all in the 2lb ea range and a very nice meal for my family. This fly has already shown me its merits. Thanks Again.
I know what I'm doing today. Have a freshly culled deer hanging right now. Also have a albino French angora rabbit. Dye the hair and once dried out I'm gonna tie about15 in 21 to 14. Thanks again for sharing a small part of your skill and love of our shared passion. Fly tying and then useing a piece of art too put dinner on our tables.
@@Thefeatherbender I will. I have high hopes for THIS one. Skeeters have already started here. I can limit out in about 30-45 min fishing a dry fly right into the almost still pools on the smaller creeks.
I've been following you recently and trying to to replicate some of your patterns. It is so much easier to learn with such detailed, precise, clear image videos. Beautifull flies. If wonder if you have fishing skills videos.... Take care and try to stay at home. Ricardo (Chile) PD:....... and thanks for your clear Scotish english...
Hi Barry, beautiful fly. A long time ago I used to tie a beetle pattern that was very similar albeit a little bigger, size 12 and 14. That performed well in dun hatches, Tight lines Florian
Sorry Jonas, that was the wrong answer. YES correct you use floatant on this pattern, although it floats well on its own the floatant helps it sit high and dry.
Fantastic emerger, Barry, as usual. Even if it's off topic, I see many of the patterns in your book, and from the MPJ book, both books have your spectacular photographs. I would like to ask you, if it is not top secret, and of course, broadly, how you photograph flies. Do you use softbox? ... Macro lens? ... Recommended focal length? ... If you use macro lens, do you use ring flash? or on the contrary you only use the lighting typical of the softbox. Thank you and sorry for this query taking advantage of one of your flies, but I did not know what other media to use to make this query. I really appreciate your photography. An affectionate greeting and thanks again.
Hi Jorge, thanks. No soft box used in the photography but I do use a full studio set-up with 3 studio flash lights, A Canon Eos 1 Mk lll with a 100 mm Macro lens at f32. A Grey background that I light with gels on the flash.
@@Thefeatherbender Thanks Barry, I recently bought a Nikon camera, DX sensor (D7200) and a Laowa 60mm f / 2.8 2X Ultra-Macro macro lens and have started taking my first shots on fly ties. Initially I use a mini-studio (softbox) in which I combine softbox lighting with external flashes (On camera flash with extension cable or Ring flash) with gels. I'm still in the testing phase and I have a long way to go. In other words, any expert advice will always be welcome. Thanks Barry.
Hi Corey, thanks. The Razor blade holder is from STONFO. There are several different ones on the market but I have found this one the best and most reasonably priced.
Is roe deer hair simply deer hair. Roe seems to be a European connotation. Do you fish this like a dry? You make it look easy but working with deer hair in a size 16 is tough. I tried it.
Lovely looking fly Barry. I just had a ago, 4th attempt was passable just. My roe Deer hair is a brittle and sometimes snaps. Any tips to help With that? It’s a good few years old so probably understandable.
Hi Andy, thanks. That doesn't sound good, I would just get rid of it, no point in tying with that! Buy some quality hair and your tying will improve no end...
Hey, my grandfather had something similar.. I have it some where in my fly gear still.. I tried a quick peek but didn't see it so I will dig it out and put it with my A fly's.. Hey Barry here is a quick video on burning the wood..( th-cam.com/video/WuobNSD5VAY/w-d-xo.html ) I have yet to use the epoxy (I am going to try that later today) Just to get an idea of what it is I am doing.. carry on brother!

Excellent, I'm so pleased it worked for you Randy, lets hope it continues to do so...
What size hook were you using?
Thank you Barry
Cheers Barry that fly does what every fly should do inspire the angler to use it
Thanks Anthony, yes it's strange that, some flies just have it...
Very nice simple pattern, and good use of materials !
Thanks Charlie.
Fantastic tie

Have to give it a try!! Tight lines🐛🕷️🐜!!!!!!

Awesome tie...I will be adding that one to my box. Thanks Mr Clarke.
No problem Todd, good luck with it.
Thank’s Barry, I’m gone try this one in my Swedish stream
Have fun with it Lasse, but remember to use winter deer hair and dress the pattern with floatatnt, it works great!

Hi Florian, thanks. I also tie a black beetle with the same technique but with another twist, maybe I'll do that one later...
I love everything about this fly. Next on the vice. Thank you!
Hi Greg, thanks. It's a great pattern you must give it a go.
That would even work as a beetle pattern for fishing terrestrials, very well done sir, thanks for sharing this!
Hi FRH, thanks, yes I actually do a beetle with a very similar technique but with a twist.
Cool. Looks like a great floater! Thanks Bender.
Hi Paul, thanks, yes its a cracking floater but works just as well right under the surface.
Super cool tip top 👍👍
Awesome caddis pattern! Nice one!
Really interesting pattern that one. I’ll definitely have to have a go at it. Thanks for another one dude. Keep keeping safe.
Thanks Dude.
Reminds me a bit of a tom thumb. Im going to have to try this
I know what you mean Skidin.
Barry, great emerger!
Thank you.
ага, уклейкам в футбол играть
Hi! Barry. Do you fish it dry? It doesn't seem it would sink easyly.
Hi David, you can fish it both dry and just under the surface.
@@Thefeatherbender Thanks Barry
You told me, so I´ll give it a go. No questions asked.
Thanks for this pattern! Caught a beautiful trout with this fly last week. Question: Do you normally use floatant on this one?
Hi Jonas, thanks. No floatant, you want this pattern to dive and swim up and down as you retrieve.
Sorry Jonas, that was the wrong answer. YES correct you use floatant on this pattern, although it floats well on its own the floatant helps it sit high and dry.

Hi we’re can I get the razor tool from please thanks steve
Hi Steve, there are several different designs around some more complicated than others, but this is the best one I have tried and its from STONFO.
Would you ever put anything on the deer hair on the back to give it more durability?
Hi, the easy answer is a big NO. You will find that deer hair is quite fatty and its very difficult to get anything to adhere to it.
Отличная мушка!!!Мастеру класс
Similar to the screaming banshee, I will try for sure
Hi AF, yes it looks similar but a different technique, i also love the Screaming Banshee.
