  • Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Rich Little, Legendary Impressionist, “The Man of a Thousand Voices”
    About Harvey's guest:
Today’s special guest, Rich Little, is an iconic star who’s been entertaining us for over 60 years with his incredibly accurate impersonations of celebrities and politicians. He’s dazzled us with his uncanny ability to channel everyone from Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne to Cary Grant, Jack Nicholson, Truman Capote, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, and dozens more - even Dr. Ruth, Carol Channing, Julia Child and Kermit the Frog.
He’s perfected the voices of every US president since President Kennedy, and last year, he got rave reviews for his astounding portrayal on the New York stage of Richard Nixon, in George Bugatti’s brilliant play, “Trial on the Potomac - The Impeachment of Richard Nixon”.
Our guest has appeared on hundreds of TV shows including Jackie Gleason, Dean Martin, Carol Burnett, Laugh-in, The Lucy Show, The Tonight Show, Hollywood Squares, and dozens more. He’s recorded 9 comedy albums. He had his own TV variety show, and was the star of “KopyKats”, AND he’s starred in 3 HBO specials.
And who can ever forget the Emmy-award winning special, “Rich Little’s Christmas Carol”, which was a tour-de-force one-man show, with our guest portraying W.C. Fields as Scrooge, Humphrey Bogart as one of the ghosts, and Paul Lynde as Bob Cratchit.
This year he released a newly updated version of his fabulous book, entitled, “Rich Little: People I’ve Known and Been”, with all proceeds going to benefit veterans, through the Gary Sinise Foundation.
He’s won too many awards to mention, and he’s the only celebrity to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Palm Springs Walk of Fame, the Las Vegas Walk of Fame, and the Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto.

Rich Little was hands down the most entertaining guest we’ve ever had on our show!! What a delight it was to chat with him. He was doing his Vegas show that night, so I was restricted to only 30 minutes with him. I tried to make the most of every precious moment. Thank you so much Rich for giving me the interview of a lifetime!!!

My jaw is aching from grinning nonstop! I'm 63 years old, grew up watching Rich Little on TV and he honestly sounds better than ever, how wonderful to hear voices like George Burns, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant again. This man is a national treasure and I must buy his book! Harvey, I'm a big fan of your wonderful TH-cam channel but this has gotta be one of my Top 5 favorites--THANK YOU 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊❤❤

I met Rich Little in 2003 at the Bing Crosby Centennial at Gonzaga. Rich delighted the Crosby fans with his imitation of Bing. And when Bing's nephew, Howard, got up to sing Rich's hand went up and he yelled "Taxi!" Brought down the house!

This has to be one of my very favorite interviews. Two friends sharing laughs. I could have listened to Rich for hours. What a funny, charismatic, and loveable man. He has not aged in 20 years. I hope he comes to Niagara Falls some time (or Hamilton) I would love to see him again. Great interview!.

Harvey, I was very impressed that you thought to discuss the humor behind the impressions. Getting the voice is one thing but saying something funny in that voice is a whole other skill. That what fascinates me about impressionists, not the voice but what they choose to say with that voice. Thanks,!

The interview made me so happy but also a little sad realizing all the great talent that is no longer with us. I was wondering what happened to him ,he is an amazing & funny comedian & when he impersonates a character he actually looks like that person is quite freaky but ,what a talented man . What has happened to our society we don’t have these entertainers any more ,so sad that this generation don’t know what wonderful laughs we used to have once . 😊

Hilarious - I loved that Rich was gearing up to do George Burns while Harvey was doing his introduction, the expression, the cigar and the whole shtick. The interview brought out the best in Rich and brought me back to the many times over the years that I saw him on Ed Sullivan and the Carson show. The man is truly an icon and I couldn't agree more with Harvey that if Rich were to do a memoir he'd have a truck-load of stories to tell after more than 60 years in show business. Thanks Harvey for a wonderful interview!

I know Rich Little, as the entertainer who crossed the picket line at the Frontier Hotel in our town in the nineties. Not a good look, as thousands of regular folk were unemployed. I haven't forgotten.

This was so amazing to see! I wanted this interview to go on for much longer since I also am a huge fan of Rich Little as you are! I can only imagine how much fun you had with this show!
I especially loved Rich Little briefly mentioning Don Rickles as Don was my 2nd fave comedian of all time, so I always love to hear stories about him! Speaking of which, have you ever tried reaching out to Mindy Rickles to interview her about her dad?
If I can make one suggestion, the title you have for the chapter beginning around 23:07 is "RIP Julie Andrews" which kinda gives the wrong impression that Julie Andrews has passed away rather than the fact that many of her guests she had on her show have passed away. I would suggest maybe changing that title so as people don't get the wrong idea, just a thought.

    • @harveybrownstoneinterviews8980

So glad you enjoyed my interview with Rich Little. I’d been told by his publicist beforehand not to go beyond 30 minutes, because Rich was performing that night in Vegas, and didn’t want to exhaust himself before the performance. So I kept the interview short. After we finished filming, he said “Harvey this was the best interview of my career. I could have kept going much longer.” My heart sank. I learned an important lesson that day: if my guest is enjoying him/herself, don’t worry about time limits. Just keep going!!! To answer your question, I’d love to interview Mindy Rickles. Hopefully I’ll find a way to make contact with her. Thanks for the comment re the Julie Andrews title. My editor sends his apologies, but unfortunately it can’t be fixed at this point. Sorry about that.

You can blame me for the Biden joke. I think I threw Rich (or should I say George Burns?) with my question about Gracie. Rich had to think quickly of something to say so he came up with that comment about Biden. He’s 83 and I think we can easily forgive him.
