Also THRIO has the advantage that you don't need 2 cards to be at risk to activate such as the opponent using Dark Hole, Heavy Storm, or Black Rose when they also have a card at risk. It can even stop many Igknight effects.
From what I understand, counter traps that say "When your opponent does X" miss timing for cards that say "Do X, then do Y". For example a counter trap whose activation condition says "When your opponent draws a card:" would NOT work on Upstart Goblin which says "Draw 1 card, then your opponent gains 1000 LP"

@@carldimayuga6419 that’s not the reason it doesn’t work. The problem is that the effect to get the additional destruction is OPTIONAL. Starlight Road and The Huge Revolution is Over can only negate an effect that is GUARANTEED to destroy 2+ cards, not necessarily at the same time

I personally really like Defense Zone. Especially in decks that don't really need their field spell zone for anything, it's a free slot in for backrow protection without taking field space.
Did you know that if you only have 1 life points and you use solemn judgement pay half your life points You don't actually pay anything as your life points get half to 1/2 of a life point and you then have to round up as in Yu-Gi-Oh you can only use whole numbers as life points and rules says you round up. So basically if you have 1 life point you can activate solemn judgement for free
All of the abyss actor spell cards would fall into the category of the protection just being the threat of their opponent benefiting from the card being destroyed
Yeah plus they can just make you pop the backrow as well if they want to in duel links I would run the mana dragon zirintron just to stop cosmic cyclones and recover treacherous trap hole if I felt like it
Temple of the Kings makes Lord of the Heavenly Prison absolutely busted. You can activate ANY trap card the turn it's set. I'm sure these two cards will elevate the new Labrynth Archetype into a Tier 1 deck once it comes to TCG.
Top 10 ideas: Top 10 pointless limits/bans - like how Eva was limited when decks were only playing one copy anyway, or how Chick the Yellow got hit at the same time as Makyura. Top 10 Worst cards that special summon specific monsters - cards like Dark Flare Knight (brings Mirage Knight), Knight's Title (brings Dark Magician Knight), Red-Eyes B. Chick (brings Red-eyes B. Dragon but only from hand), Trial of the Princesses (brings one of two princesses, with an awful requirement), etc etc. Top 10 cards that go -1. A lot of categories fit in here. Burn cards like Magical Explosion, mill cards like Foolish Burial / Grass (the right mills can go +, but in a vacuum it does nothing), non-destroying negates like Infinite Impermanence, cards that need an extra cost like Karma Cut or Monster Gate, cards that cycle through the deck like Card Destruction or Dragged Down into the Grave, tribute engines like Mass Driver, cards that only change the board positions like Book of Moon or Quaking Mirror Force, etc etc
Honorable mention to sea stealth attack, as long as you can banish a water monster, which ssa lets you banish them, you can protect your face up spell or traps. Sadly it’s just face up but most cards used in water decks are face up. Like umi and it’s forms, ssa, sea stealth 2, tornado wall. Can also be good with gravity bind or area limit lv b and legendary ocean with lv 4 now lv 3 water monsters. And many others. Now it’s only good in water decks and they aren’t meta currently, (but could be again depending on what comes off the ban list) Considering 1/2 of this list doesn’t actually protect anything and this is very strong protection for its archetype thought it at least deserved a honorable mention.
Imo I think huge revolution is over has a small edge over starlight road particularly in the current meta because afaik as it counts the destruction of 2 or more cards on the field as a whole and then banishes it can be a niche counter to DPE

I was disappointed to see timidity not on the list considering it's a normal spell card that prevent your back rows from being destroyed for two including your opponent's turn
Yo I just realized when you were explaining Artifact Sanctum, if your opponent has an empty field, that would allow them to use lightning storm going second, then you wouldn't have a target to destroy with Sanctum's floating "punishment" effect.
I'd mention the Blue-Eye Jet Dragon package, which is 1 Jet, 1 BEWD, and 2-3 Dragon Shrine if you have something to proc Jet reliably, which might be really easy. Using Shrine will dump both BEWD and Jet to GY, bonus point if you're using dragon monsters that can benefit from other copies of Shrine, then you just need any card on the field to be destroyed to get Jet out once every single turn and protect all other cards from destruction. Jet also has battle protection on itself by being able to bounce any card at begin of the damage step, which is often the card that is about to kill it. The only drawback is of course the BEWD brick but it's not too terrible if you have cards that discard for cost.
From my personal experience playing backrow/control decks I honestly like dark bribe and huge revolution more over judgement. People always pretend halving your life points more than once is no big deal till your life points are just low enough for your opponent to end you via battle damage or some gimmicky effect damage.
That’s why you take advantage of the negate and win. Adding more fluff to your deck is more harmful, instead of drawing a game ender, you drew another counter to give your opponent one more turn, and in Dark Bribe’s case, another resource. Just one Imperial Order has canceled many back row destructions, and I’ve won with 200-300 lp’s left from the maintenance cost of that trap.
@@motodog242 Modern backrow removal today usually consists of harpie's feather duster, lightning storm, and twin twisters. All of which can immediately trigger huge revolution without having to halve your life points. If you know your foe is coming at you with these cards back to back in game two and you can pick 3 copies of the same counter trap to protect yourself just a free negate and banish will always sound better to me over halving your life points potentially 3 times. The card can also negate monster effects that destroy too unlike judgement which is a crucial ability in the modern era.
tbh honest solemn card being a UR is overrated. u need 6 card (judgment and strike) in your deck to really protect your backrow, and it destroys (many card immune to destory), not to mention the LP cost.
Another card to consider would be White Dragon Ninja whose effect is that Spells/Traps you control cannot be destroyed by card effects. The downside being that it cannot be special summoned expect with a "Ninjitsu Art" card's effect. If you can get around this downside and combo it with Safe Zone you end up with an indestructible monster and backrow, that can only be got around by non-targeting card effects like Skill Drain.
I love Dark Bribe and always felt like it was super slept on. I used to max it in Rock Stun in 2009 over Solemn Judgment. Since we were a Royal Oppression deck and that card was already so good at shutting down the format, the cards we cared about negating the most were stuff like Heavy Storm and Icarus Attack to protect Oppression. Plus letting them draw for negating their Heavy Storm didn't really hurt us since that meant whatever they were drawing wasn't an out to Oppression.
I have some list suggestions of you don't mind: Top 10 fusion support cards. Top 10 generic pendulum cards. Top 10 "trap" cards. (Cards that seem good at first glance but aren't really that good. Top 10 parody cards. Top 10 cards based on other Konami games. Top 10 special conditions in the games. More Rescue Rabbit, please.
List idea: Best cards that can negate spell speed 4 effects. It's just a weird interesting thing some cards can do in weird ways, generally if they're already established. Like Fabled Unicore, Ms. Judge, and Cerulean Skyfire.
Small thing about Dark Bribe, since it negates the activation, they CAN activate Lightning Storm again, since 'negating activation' treats it as though the card never got played in the first place. If it were to 'negate effect', the game would recognize that the card was played, and that it just never got to resolve. Meaning their one Lightning Storm activation would be wasted.
So the first four spots on this list are there to disincentivize your opponent from destroying your back row, while the remaining ones are actual protection. It's probably a good idea to use both though, because by protecting it, you're effectively telling your opponent "Hey! I have some valuable back row that I want to use!" Imagine they use a lot of resources to bring out Accesscode Talker to start blasting back row, only for it to be stolen by something like Gigaclops after sniping Waking the Dragon.
Honorable mention to Barricade Borgblocker. He only protects your face up continuous spells and field spell, but he can also add a continuous/field spell back to your hand. He’s also generic.
What a person of culture... Now, imagine that with both Marjoram + Jazmine pointing the previous two (As Lutea cannot be destroyed by battle when another a t is there)
I also play traptrix in master duel and with so many omni-negate monster boards its funny how the card that more consistently saves my backrow from being negated/destroyed is actually Solemn Strike.
Thanks, I'm making a true Trap Monster Deck and I need everything I can get and then some. There's an xyz Number 66: Master Key Beetle who is also a pretty solid option. For just one xyz material it can protect any other card you control, facedown or not, for as long as N66 is kept on the field. So this card can protect your most important backrow cards or even other protection. on the field as soon as turn 1, still protects them even after they activate, and only takes up a slot in your Extra Deck. But keep in mind N66 requires two Dark Level 4's, it has a lousy excuse for self protection, it can't target itself and it's effect is not a quick effect. There's also Card Guard, who is pretty much a one-use Master Key Beetle when Summoned that can protect even after it leaves the field, and is not a hopt. If you can find ways to reuse a Level 4 Dark Fiend consistently it will be well worth your trouble, and it can be used as material for N66. Most Stardust Synchros are great backrow support for decks that can Synchro Summon. It's tricky but if you do choose to go down this route the ultimate option is probably Stardust Sifr Divine Dragon who is about as heavy duty protection as you can get. Shooting Majestic Star Dragon is also a great option.
11:35 Even though lightning storm has a hard once per turn on its activation, wouldn't you still be able to use a second copy in the same turn even if the first one got negated by dark bribe? Since dark bribe negates the activation and not the effect?
4:52 this is so funny especially after watching the vid where you stall with megaclops, I can almost ear you remembering the experience backing up that phrase lmao
Deskbot 008 is such an underrated card. It protects your deskbot card from any effect that targets except itself, yes even your deskbot monster, spell and trap.
another distinction between The Huge Revolution is Over and Starlight Road, is that THRiO can be activated when ANY 2 cards ANYWHERE on the field would be destroyed, making it more versatile, while Starlight Road can only be used if 2 of YOUR cards you control would be destroyed.
A lot of cards that destroy both one of your card and one of your opponent tend to do so in two steps, so it won't proc. An exception would be board wipes like dark hole, which probably will destroy 2 of your monsters anyways. Still, it's a nice niche edge.
I had a fun idea for card protection: an effect monster with high defense with the following effect: _while this face up card is out on the field, monsters with a different original name directly next this monster, and spells/traps you control in the same column as this monster, cannot be destroyed._
Although probably not good enough for the top 10, but still worthy of an honorable mention - I like using Judgement of Anubis in Master Duel It's a counter trap where if your opponent activates a spell that would destroy any of your spells or traps, you can discard 1 to Negate and destroy that card, and if you do you can also choose 1 Monster your opponent controls and destroy that as well. Negating a Feather duster and destroying an opponent's monster while possibly setting up my GY has been nice in most scenarios

The thing with Artifact Lancea is that you want to tribute or discard it on the opposites turn, so they can't banish their own cards. Like with a Pot or Tri-Brigade card effect.
Suggestion for a video: Top 10 specific fusion materials. For example Relinquished, because has a strong effect and uses the opponent's monster to go into Millennium Eyes Restrict, or Fallen of Albaz, since it gives access to a board full of fusions, or Dark Magician due to its insane support
I think Noctovision dragon might deserve a spot on this list, as it protects every face-down card you control and not just S/T(s), then again to trigger the effect the opponent has to target your facedown, so Lightning storm and duster bypass the trigger.
Definitely upgrades over my good old Judgement of Anubis. That poor thing really lost a lot of its oomph now that people use so many monster effects and all the main destruction spells get used before anything hits the field.

Waking the dragon is a scary card. I once popped it with harpies feather duster and the dude brought out I think its called distant warrior from another planet. I ended up winning I remember but that game lasted forever. Destroying that card is a true yugioh jumpscare
Now there is a good combo in a dark magician deck that protects your back row and dark magicians as well. Although it is specific, I always like to point out that these aren't the only cards that protect your back row
As a Phantasm Spiral MD player, I am mad that you didn't include Sea Stealth Attack. That card is a good backrow protector, though you have to play Water Deck. But should be included because it does what the title said - to protect backrow
I heard somewhere that the Huge Revolution is Over and Starlight road were being argued about at some point. Its basically the same card but both have their ups and down.
Dark bribe is more of a general protection/utility card than back row protection as it can negate or change effects like drawing or searching via spell and traps for example hit reinforcement of the army, the search for a warrior monster becomes a draw 1 card under dark bribe, pot of greed gets halved, polymerization becomes draw 1 card instead of a fusion summon and quick play spells become draw 1 card effects instead of their regular useful utility. Allowing the opponent to draw more cards is NEVER really a good idea but can be preferable to effects that can let them outright win the game as drawing a random card mid combo can disrupt the Combo.
starlight road is worse than huge revolution is over. not because HRIO is a counter trap, but because it includes your opponents cards in the '2 or more would be destroyed' effect. this makes it useful against cards like destroy phoenix enforcer and even banishes it, stopping it from floating.
Top 10 idea : - Top 10 card that could be broken in better archtype /// Top 10 strong cards in weak archetype The two are the same, it's the way to say it. One Card that is not as generic as the other cards on this list but actually protects spell and trap cards, at least that who are face-up, is Sea Stealth Attack. So you could argue that is more fitting for this list then cards like Artifact Sanctum. Btw. a there is a little mistacke in the video description. "If you ever played a very back row *have* a deck [...]"
I'm surprised Madolche Sistart isn't on here, provides pretty much complete backrow immunity for your archetype spell/traps unless they use non-targeting non-destruction removal and is a pretty big reason why that deck is successful.
The funny thing is I rarely see anyone play cards that only remove spell/traps anymore. Kind of a paradox really. They're so easy to destroy that continuous spells/traps aren't worth playing, so nobody plays them, which in turn causes more players to cut cards like Twin Twisters out of their decks, which means that backrow is safer, and the cycle repeats
Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is easily far & away the best Waking the Dragon target. If it was available to TCG during when TheDuelLogs made his video about Waking the Dragon, I'm sure Dragoon would've been above Ultimate Falcon.
Ehhh. Depends. It's versatile for sure and fits almost every situation, but for almost every one of those situations there's a better card, like last warrior if they lightning stormed you and play a combo deck. Dragoon is the one card that just works pretty well in any scenario though (surprise surprise, omni negate on an untargetable undestroyable body that gets a pop with burn every turn), so I get the appeal.
A video I would like to see would be top 10 wyrm cards (including spells and traps) because wyrm is one of my all time favorite types because of decks like metaphys, tenyi, and swordsoul.
Not many decks that run continuous traps but Imperial Custom is a funny one. Flip it over to save your trap from a board wipe, or to turn a targeted destruction into a -1 for your opponent.
@@MsMiDC Well yeah lol, and there's only like a 3% chance of opening two of a 3of. Justt pointing out bc he brought upp the hard once per turn on LS talking about Dark Bribe. And ik Solemn Judgment bc I got to do that to somebody on Master Duel last night, coincidentally 😂
What about Dark Magician the Dragon Knight? Here's what it says from the Wiki: ""Dark Magician" + 1 Dragon monster This card's name becomes "Dark Magician" while on the field or in the GY. Your opponent cannot target Spells/Traps you control with card effects, also they cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects." Also, it doesn't say it can't be special summoned only by Polymerzation, so it could be cheated out of the extra deck with "Waking the Dragon".
it depends on your opponent to trigger waking, and by that time, you probably already lost some of your precious backrow. Also that monster only has 3k atk, pretty easy to get rid of, especially when they've already nuked your backrow. Then in next game when opponent already knew you have waking, they'll plan for it making it even harder to cheat out.

Prime material falcon, an oldie but a goodie(for this specific list)
Mmm I feel that Aromage need a similar effect as Sistart...
Lots of good cards to protect set cards.. But not much for faceup stuff.
I personally really like Defense Zone.
Especially in decks that don't really need their field spell zone for anything, it's a free slot in for backrow protection without taking field space.
Love the fact that you put 'waking the dragon' in the thumbnail for a video about cards that protect the backrow.
I'm want 2 honorably mention
"Dark Magician the Dragon Knight"
I play him in my Cyberdark Deck as a great way 2 protect my Buster lock
one question. how?
Did you know that if you only have 1 life points and you use solemn judgement pay half your life points
You don't actually pay anything as your life points get half to 1/2 of a life point and you then have to round up as in Yu-Gi-Oh you can only use whole numbers as life points and rules says you round up.
So basically if you have 1 life point you can activate solemn judgement for free
All of the abyss actor spell cards would fall into the category of the protection just being the threat of their opponent benefiting from the card being destroyed
Yeah plus they can just make you pop the backrow as well if they want to in duel links I would run the mana dragon zirintron just to stop cosmic cyclones and recover treacherous trap hole if I felt like it
Thank you for going over The Sanctum of Parsath. Now I can use that card for Tea Gardner deck on duel links.
I used in a trickstar deck
Temple of the Kings makes Lord of the Heavenly Prison absolutely busted. You can activate ANY trap card the turn it's set. I'm sure these two cards will elevate the new Labrynth Archetype into a Tier 1 deck once it comes to TCG.
Whats temple of the kings? A field spell? Cus if so, heñl nah, lab wants thier field spell

Top 10 ideas:
Top 10 pointless limits/bans - like how Eva was limited when decks were only playing one copy anyway, or how Chick the Yellow got hit at the same time as Makyura.
It's 100 better because it actually is a counter trap and those silly monster negates can't do squat
No starlight is better

dark bribe doesn't prevent you from playing 2 lightning storms in a turn. it negates the activation, so you're free to activate another one
I can imagine Varis and Spectre randomly playing starlight road.
Varis plays random old traps like mirror force and magical cylinder, as well as the starlight road built in one of his duels vs Yusaku, also stardust DRAGON. Spectre though? Its protection for the trees
I was disappointed to see timidity not on the list considering it's a normal spell card that prevent your back rows from being destroyed for two including your opponent's turn
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that as well.
That archetype is pretty whicked
I love Dark Bribe and always felt like it was super slept on. I used to max it in Rock Stun in 2009 over Solemn Judgment. Since we were a Royal Oppression deck and that card was already so good at shutting down the format, the cards we cared about negating the most were stuff like Heavy Storm and Icarus Attack to protect Oppression. Plus letting them draw for negating their Heavy Storm didn't really hurt us since that meant whatever they were drawing wasn't an out to Oppression.
Omg! I needed this video I asked about it a few weeks ago and thought I got ignored ;~; thanks for making this

dark bribe negates the activation of lightning storm
if you draw into another one you can activate lightning storm again in the same turn
Ngl, wasn't expecting Starlight Road. Love to see it
Honorable mention back row protector: Anti-Spell Fragrance, Magic Deflector and Blizzard
List idea: Best cards that can negate spell speed 4 effects. It's just a weird interesting thing some cards can do in weird ways, generally if they're already established. Like Fabled Unicore, Ms. Judge, and Cerulean Skyfire.
These cards will be great for my stall deck!
Playing Aromage in the N/R master duel event made me really appreciate ibicella lutea for keeping my continuous traps safe.
What a person of culture... Now, imagine that with both Marjoram + Jazmine pointing the previous two (As Lutea cannot be destroyed by battle when another a t is there)
I play Traptrix, so, Lord of the Heavenly Prison was a godsend for my deck
And it is searchable too, make gallant granite add it and almost gg
Thx so much for this. Didn’t know there were cards that are this broken lol. Gonna put it in my cyber dragon deck
@@alex_zetsu Worth noting that THRiO can be used on DPE, since it will destroy 2 cards no matter what.
I had a fun idea for card protection: an effect monster with high defense with the following effect: _while this face up card is out on the field, monsters with a different original name directly next this monster, and spells/traps you control in the same column as this monster, cannot be destroyed._
Top 10 normal summons with 0 attack, i.e. top 10 cards to search with piri reis map
Super-Quantal Fairy Alphan is a good target for his Pantheism-like search effect in his archetype.
D/D Savant Kepler
Although probably not good enough for the top 10, but still worthy of an honorable mention - I like using Judgement of Anubis in Master Duel
It's a counter trap where if your opponent activates a spell that would destroy any of your spells or traps, you can discard 1 to Negate and destroy that card, and if you do you can also choose 1 Monster your opponent controls and destroy that as well.
Negating a Feather duster and destroying an opponent's monster while possibly setting up my GY has been nice in most scenarios
Cool video just got back into yugioh and i love playing traptrix and other backrow decks and was having issues with all the backrow hate these days.
Great vid DuelLogs, I will try to use Sanctum more often in Duel Links.
Lord of the Heavenly Prison is one of these cards wich has a very weird artwork. It's really hard to tell what is really going on in that artwork and how the actual monster really looks like. :D
HEY HIRU! apologies for the caps but i wanted you to knew it was a huge surprise coming from seeing your wow videos and then clicking on a random yugioh video about banned cards (previous video i watched before this one) and hearing your voice! I play mtg but ive never really played yugioh or watched a video on it but somehow your beautiful voice founds its way
The thing with Artifact Lancea is that you want to tribute or discard it on the opposites turn, so they can't banish their own cards. Like with a Pot or Tri-Brigade card effect.
It was cool to see sanctum of parshath a literal improvement from the sanctuary of the sky and i did try to play a counter fairy deck in duel links
Just made an Amazement deck and got this recommended. Perfect timing
Interesting.... I shall consider running some of these cards in my Lair of Darkness Eldlich Virus deck. humu humu thank you Mr. Logs.

Its basically the same card but both have their ups and down.
top 10 cards in the different yugioh tv series that still see play ? would love to see that
Dark bribe is more of a general protection/utility card than back row protection as it can negate or change effects like drawing or searching via spell and traps for example hit reinforcement of the army, the search for a warrior monster becomes a draw 1 card under dark bribe, pot of greed gets halved, polymerization becomes draw 1 card instead of a fusion summon and quick play spells become draw 1 card effects instead of their regular useful utility. Allowing the opponent to draw more cards is NEVER really a good idea but can be preferable to effects that can let them outright win the game as drawing a random card mid combo can disrupt the Combo.
oh damn, boo-boo game is a decent sidedeck card for that new labrynth archetype.
starlight road is worse than huge revolution is over. not because HRIO is a counter trap, but because it includes your opponents cards in the '2 or more would be destroyed' effect. this makes it useful against cards like destroy phoenix enforcer and even banishes it, stopping it from floating.

One Card that is not as generic as the other cards on this list but actually protects spell and trap cards, at least that who are face-up, is Sea Stealth Attack. So you could argue that is more fitting for this list then cards like Artifact Sanctum.

2-10. All Mysterune quick spell
Fun fact, Solem Judgement is not live if you only have 1 life points. Really only a factor in Dinomorphia decks but still.
I think Ultimate Providence deserves a mention at least, it's an Omni negate counter trap that require a discard of the same type.
Yeah I play this myself since I have a lot of continuous traps I frequently play.
Since Dark Bribe negates the activation of Lightning Storm, I'm almost certain another can be used.
You are indeed correct. Solemn Judgment is also guilty of this. But most of the time this doesnt matter, drawing 2 LS sucks so much lol.
@@MsMiDC Well yeah lol, and there's only like a 3% chance of opening two of a 3of. Justt pointing out bc he brought upp the hard once per turn on LS talking about Dark Bribe.

Evil Eyes : Let me stop you right there buddy
A sinergy I use to play is to target a trap card i have set and a monster my opponent controls with DPE while showing Lord of the Heavenly Prison
What about Dark Magician the Dragon Knight?
Here's what it says from the Wiki:
""Dark Magician" + 1 Dragon monster
This card's name becomes "Dark Magician" while on the field or in the GY. Your opponent cannot target Spells/Traps you control with card effects, also they cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects."
Also, it doesn't say it can't be special summoned only by Polymerzation, so it could be cheated out of the extra deck with "Waking the Dragon".
it depends on your opponent to trigger waking, and by that time, you probably already lost some of your precious backrow. Also that monster only has 3k atk, pretty easy to get rid of, especially when they've already nuked your backrow. Then in next game when opponent already knew you have waking, they'll plan for it making it even harder to cheat out.
