This is a great overview. I've just got into Elite after installing a couple of months ago, and never really got going. I'm taking a bit of a break from Star Citizen at the moment, so I'm diving in. I used to do a lot of faction warfare in EVE years ago before I left, and I wanted to do something a bit more consequential in Elite above the usual trading, bounties etc. By far the best summary of PP 1.0 I've found, nice job mate! o7
It's not that you aren't aligned properly "in the middle," as you say. It's actually your current momentum isn't aligned with that vector yet. You can see this by the particles flying by you.

The big problem with powerplay is that commanders can participate in pg and solo modes. I was right into powerplay for a while but being undermined without the ability to defend systems is demoralising and basically destroyed powerplay (and bgs as well) for me.
Its a bit of crap argument regarding solo and pg for a couple of reasons. Instancing to start with, you can be in the same system at the same time and never see another soul. The second point is time zones/play times, chances are you are being undermined when you aren't playing or even awake, you cannot fight when your opponent is it in the same place at the same time. The third thing to consider is that some people have poor Internet connections and the best way for them to not effect others gameplay and be able to enjoy there own is to play in solo or a pg, they should not be punished for that.
@@CMDRPLATER I'm sure you know that powerplay is undertaken by player groups that span multiple timezones with a fair bit of organization involved. No individual commander is going to make a significant impact on the outcomes or future of a superpower so while instancing and multiple timezones are an issue for any one individual, it becomes much less so on the larger scale. I was heavily involved in powerplay during which time we were targeted in solo/pg several times by a rival group (we had an open only rule). It was demoralising watching system after system fall after months of hard work and there was nothing we could do about it because we couldn't intercept and engage with the underminers. What I and others are saying is that commanders can powerplay in solo/pg and it will unlock modules and earn them weekly credits but their fortification, undermining, etc. should not count toward the outcome of the weekly cycle. Otherwise what should be a turf war becomes nothing but a bunch of commanders that will never ever cross paths just trying to out grind each other. What's the point of that? I can attest to this after several years of participating in powerplay and experiencing the futility of trying to compete in a game mechanic that necessarily requires you to try to stop opposing groups from undermining your systems while allowing that same group to do so while completely invisible to you.
"Elite Dangerous is all about time spent, money made." No! It's about enjoying the journey and immersing yourself in space life. I get that many play it for the time spent money made reason, but I just don't get it. There's no fulfilment in that for me.

I heard that you could pay for merit points but I'm not sure how to do it because I would just much rather pay for it especially to affect my Explorer rank because I signed up with li how do I get to the screen to pay for merit points if it's possible.
The thing you can pay for is rank for factions, like the Empire, the Federation, or the Alliance. You can't buy the ranks for combat, exploration or trade, those are given out by the Pilot's Federation, and are seen across known space as a mark of distinction in the fields they represent. The Pilot's Federation will never give out awards such as Elite Combat rank to anyone who hasn't earned it because they rely on their integrity to maintain control of pretty much everything to do with modern space travel.
