Most artists from that era and before sound basically the same live as they do in studio. There was no autotune back in those days, and people went to concerts expecting the same quality as they got on the album. A band wouldn't make it if they couldn't perform live. Steve Perry is a long time San Francisco Giants fan enduring their 2010 to 2016 seasons he would lead the crowd in this song during the 7th inning stretch at their homes ballpark
So back in the 80s I was 14. I was at this concert, but in Salt Lake City. He literally wore the exact same outfit, so that must’ve been his concert tour shirt. Every single song they do is gold. They are still touring. Steve Perry left the band back in ‘98 respectfully and they’ve had a couple of singers since then. They currently have Arnel Piñeda who is very very close to Steve Perry in vocals. I am an enormous Journey nerd. And the band will never be exactly the same as they were with Steve Perry as their frontman, and as big of a Steve Perry fan as I am, I am still impressed with the performance that Arnel gives. Check out “Don’t Stop Belivin with Arnel. Compare for yourself. If you want to dig deeper into Steve’s vocals with Journey-Live- check out “Mother Father”, it will blow your mind!

You can get this entire live concert and hear music that's better than the studio version. This is talent! Please check out Mother Father for some amazing music.
Not only did he sing for hours. He literally RAN around the set the entire time. Unbelievable. Saw a video this week where he was at a baseball game. Singing his song.
Steve Perry has perfect pitch, never misses a note, such a great range. He's not Freddie Mercury, but he's damn good.
Most artists from that era and before sound basically the same live as they do in studio. There was no autotune back in those days, and people went to concerts expecting the same quality as they got on the album. A band wouldn't make it if they couldn't perform live. Most of them didn't use the in-ears either. There wasn't all that much technology involved, and there weren't nearly as many toys available as there are now.
So true!! They would get booed of the stage or have shit thrown at them. Sad but true
I lived my years on 60s and 70s music! The very best! They wrote and sang their own songs no computer driven! Pure music!
Absolutely Mother, Father; his vocal ability will blow you away. This is the same Houston concert.
I hope he takes a listen to mother father. It is by far one of the greats.
Their song Mother,Father live will show him go to the next level…yes, another level!
Add. Who’s Crying Now from same concert 1981 Houston
Steve Recorded mother Father in One take according to Cain
"Mother, father" is a amazing song!!!
Very 1st concert 1983t. in Mobile, AL: Bryan Adams was the opening act for Journey. Steve Perry is even more amazing in concert. His voice is STELLAR, in concernt, on album, even now in his golden years....
Saw them both in Atlanta, same tour.
I was there for that concert! It was amazing!!
Same tour in Chicago! I was 22 at the time.
Same tour in LV, NV at The Aladdin Theater.
I saw that tour! 1983 Fresno CA. 40 minutes from Steve Perry’s hometown of Hanford CA! ❤
Sweetheart I'm a granny now, and your reactions to one of my favorite bands EVER is such a treat. When a "newcomer" gets to see what I've felt for decades is so much fun. Thank you for giving me a wonderful start to my day. ❤
One of the world's greatest voices.
Stands the test of time.
Thanks for sharing.
he sounds that good live because.... TALENT!!!! no autotune, no nothing, TALENT!!!
Steve has one of the most distinctive voices. There’s no auto tuning with Steve. What you hear is what you get. Steve put his heart into everything he sings.❤❤
You HAVE to watch Steve sing “Mother, Father, Sister, Brother” from this same concert. The notes he hits are incredible in range.
Castronovo was downright impressive signing that one though.
Totally agree!!!! Insane. SP's vocal wizardry on that one is over-the-top.
Steve Perry is a long time San Francisco Giants fan enduring their 2010 to 2016 seasons he would lead the crowd in this song during the 7th inning stretch at their homes ballpark
He sounds incredible live. I saw them in Houston in 1983 for their Frontiers tour. It was my first concert.
That's why he is called
THE VOICE ❣️🤗❣️
Once again, the awesome sound of the real voices of the 70s/80s ... no autotune!
Saw them live a few times, the entire band was on fire each time. Amazing vocals! The GOAT!
Best concert of my young life! I saw Escape tour at The Forum
JOURNEY --- "Wheel In The Sky" live in Osaka 1980!!! Steve's song intro in this performance is EPIC! High energy interaction with the concert goers! It is a must for any Journey fan!
Steve Perry's vocals were exceptional The man could sound the same live as a recording sounded It didn't change The man was amazing
Most artists from this time sound just like the studio version, live! Autotune was not a thing back then! They are the epitome of true artists and musicians! Someone else I think u would love is Jackson Browne! Listen to Stay/The Load out! He has one of my favorite voices ever!
1 yr old.in 1981, lord! I feel so old. I love Journey.
I was a teenager when Journey was so popular! It was said then that he was one of the best vocalist ever and I think it still rings true! Always loved him!
I love how minimal the stage was...focus is on the band and the music. Awesome.
They were my Dad’s favorite band! And this was his favorite song. RIP Dad. Every time I hear this song I get pumped and picture him rockin out with Jesus! Miss ya Dad! Love you! - Kristin
My favorite song is Lights, but I've never heard a bad song from Journey, be it studio or live.
YES!! He absolutely did sound that freaking fantastic live! Steve Perry is a vocal god and no one will ever match his pure voice and range. Steve Perry pulled Journey out of obscurity and into Rock history. A once in a lifetime talent and that my friend is why Steve Perry will forever be THE VOICE!!
I was lucky enough to see them in concert a few times in my 20's. They were awesome.
80s rock bands didn't mess around! Their talent was real! No autotune! 80s clothes were great too!♥️♥️♥️
There was a time when bands actually performed live. No autotune. No backing tracks.
Just pure talent.
The live 1981 performance by Queen of Somebody to Love is another example of a band at the top of their game.
Mother Father from the same live concert will blow you away!! NO one can compare❤. His live performances are better than the recordings. He is that good!!
"Mother father" is amazing song!!!
"Mother, Father" from this same concert, is very powerful, with some jaw dropping notes!
What a great song. The 80s were awesome. I'm 66 and still rocking. Keep singing and listening.
My first concert. I graduated HS '81 and this song affected people... I can still remember everything from that concert including the smell.
Did you play the Journey arcade game?
Check out Steve's songs Foolish Heart, When you Love a Woman, Oh Sherrie & Mother, Father 🔥🎶 his voice, one of a kind ❤
Steve has such a unique and powerful voice, and this band is great.
I grew up on Journey……the best..that’s it..and I got to see them live…..nothing else like it anymore or anywhere…….so glad I was the right age in 1981!
Loved your reaction!!!
Saw them in Nashville tn fronting foreigner. Yes he sounds that good
Growing up in the 80"s was so amazing. Big hair, shoulder pads and the best music. Maybe that's why my generation is so critical of today's musicians. Loved your enthusiasm to this video.
You must continue on that same live concert - so many songs that will make go crazy
Mother Father
Open Arms - another song you must of ran into
Lights
A
Amazing concert
The Voice! Love Steve Perry! And the HAIR and Smile ❤
Great reaction. Love seeing people getting blown away by what I have known about for 45 years and still blows me away. Been very fortunate to have seen Journey 5 times in concert. They never failed to blow the roof off the place each time. I paid to see them twice and had fairly good seats and got paid 3 times to have the best seat in the house. Right in front in between the front row and stage. Worked security for dozens an dozens of concerts. Nobody sounded as good as Journey did live. Like Perry did in this show personalizing Houston, he did everywhere. Never failed to bring a tremendous roar from the crowd. YES it was an incredible experience to see them live and yes, I am completely grateful I was able too. You haven't failed to get a thumbs up from me in any of your reactions so far.
I had the privilege of seeing this tour!!! AMAZING 🤩
