How Civet make World Most Expensive Coffee - Civet Coffee Farming - Coffee Harvest and Processing

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ธ.ค. 2022
- Kopi luwak is a coffee that consists of partially digested coffee cherries, which have been eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet . It is also called civet coffee. The cherries are fermented as they pass through a civet's intestines, and after being defecated with other fecal matter, they are collected. Producers of the coffee beans argue that the process may improve coffee through two mechanisms: selection - civets choosing to eat only certain cherries, and digestion - biological or chemical mechanisms in the animals' digestive tracts altering the composition of the coffee cherries.
The traditional method of collecting feces from wild Asian palm civets has given way to an intensive farming method, in which the palm civets are kept in battery cages and are force-fed the cherries. This method of production has raised ethical concerns about the treatment of civets and the conditions they are made to live in, which include isolation, poor diet, small cages, and a high mortality rate.
Although kopi luwak is a form of processing rather than a variety of coffee, it has been called one of the most expensive coffees in the world, with retail prices reaching US$100 per kilogram for farmed beans and US$1,300 per kilogram for wild-collected beans.

It's absolutely disgusting that you're keeping wild animals in cages, why you think they're happy when they're literally going crazy trying to get out of there.
How anyone can support this have no compassion for other living beings.

You try your coffee 😂😂😂 and goat poop too.
😂😂😂😂
Thank God I never drink world's most expensive coffee

Exactly 👍
These animals have the right to live free
U eat chicken & fish? No then it's good. But if u r eating then think otherwise 😂
@@hanumanramshiv what will u choose between these two? Living your whole life inside a coffin or die in a second?
@@shinchan8382 these are wrong options dear. Nobody could live whole life in cuffin niether nobody die in a second.
@@hanumanramshiv the size of the cages shown in the second farm = coffins. Killing animals for food is different than torturing them. If anyone questions animal abuse someone comes up with a comment 'do u eat nonveg? ' Even in the video of Chinese dog eating festivals where they throw the dogs alive in hot water i can see these type of comments. Killing and torturing(& killing) is different. That's what I tried to say.
@@shinchan8382 " u change the world when u change your mind " 5 years ago my family weekly ordering 3kg of goat mutton but the time i realised goat suffering i stopped eating that. I tried to convince my family as well but they didn't stopped. But from last 1 year we are ordering weekly 1 kg of goat mutton. Drastically down. So change happened gradually but it did happened. So " do u eat non-vage is a right question coz it start with "you" "yourself"
Those little Luwaks are CUTE!!!
I think it's better to put them in an enclosure let them free around the coffee plants instead of putting them into small cages. Stress can affect the quality of the product so if you want your coffee to be really good quality don't put the civets inside a small cage but let them be free and happy to roam around and eat coffee fruits as much as they want
И на десерт что нибудь молочное.
Like free range farming for chickens
They eat their own poop
Exactly you are right. AND the high price of it should be for the "natural" free version of it, like organic products are, not the "industrial" forced imprisoned version (and cruel). That is kind of cheating.
Horrible ver estos animales enjaulados
Showed it to my mum while she was drinking coffee😂😂
Nothing like getting shown all the good parts of your process and none of the bad parts.
it's human stupidity to think coffee beans would have an special taste just because they passed through the digestive system of another animal - and the beans came out untouched of it!
Need to remember though that the animals eat only a certain type of the fruit - they reject lesser quality fruit. That in itself means a higher selective quality coffee bean.
Must admit though, it's still pretty rank eating poop berries in hot water. Whoever came up with the idea was obviously desperate.

I tried it from Bali and i felt so special in it's effect on body. One thing is you won't get acidity of normal coffee in luwak coffee.

Imagine that thrill ride of a dookie. Great video. Love from Arkansas. Absolutely love your beans. Keep up the good work.
3:56 Poor civet. So stressed inside the small enclosure.
I liked the last farm, they made big cages housing coffee plants inside, if only theirs no division so that in can room freely in a much wider space. It's nice to see having veterinarian checking up the civets health & giving the animal its main diet instead of just a coffee fruits.
It’s cruel, you can see they are stressed, no matter how many veterinarians visits they won’t acknowledge the cruelty, I understand it’s a poor country and it’s how people get by, I just think they could try to find a more stimulating enriching environment.

Good one. Yes myself cannot think of a coffee which is so expensive and it is not required too even if it is given free to me 😁😁
I will never drink this coffee even if they paid me millions of Dollars

Fascinating !!! 🤩
I appreciate the efficiency of Civet on the coffee trees. Will need fencing to keep them intact and avoid predators. Collecting faece is more efficient than picking cherries
I've known of this coffee for many years now, and even if I could afford to buy it, knowing where it comes from would prevent me doing so.

The origin was when Indonesia was colonized local farmer can't harvest coffee bean for private consumption, all of the harvest must be sell to VOC (east India Company) that own by Dutch. Local who want to drink coffee search for alternative mean and found out that there's an animal who like to eat coffee and see what's left on its poop was coffee bean. After trying to roast and drink it the result pretty good
Hahaha malah Thailand yg produksi besar besaran, promosi dan ekspor keluar negeri. Indonesia ngapain katanya pemilik kopi luwak ?
Civets in the wild eat a wide variety of food, not just coffee beans. That's why these caged animals look so unhealthy. They're probably dying of malnutrition.

can you imagine drinking coffee all day and being put in a box with limited movement. i see why they running up the walls.
Instead of keeping them in cages, why dont you create a preserved area around the coffee plants and release the animals there? Keeping them in cages is cruel, also let the poopy coffee become more organic and expensive that way :/
@@MK-rx2fj they are not domesticated cattles, they are wild animals so keep your business deals away from wildlife, respect them
Not to be treated as chicken even if it is the same process, I know eggs aren't so expensive so treat them better
That's true 👍 💯 agree
You kinda describe the last farm shown, which was large enclosure around coffee plants, where the civet live! Also they are working on domestication of them
@@zg3276 put them is cage make collect their shit is easier and faster. Go around an area to collect them cost much time , harder to collect all of them , it can be affected by weather, and make people who collect them get tired
You also can create machine to collect them so those animal maybe will not get put in the cage, but many people will lost their job

Was offered a cup of the kapi luwak but i declined. Didnt buy any kapi luwak, just regular coffee
good that's what they deserve for such inhumane activities
That's what's in this video: tiny wire or wooden cages and eating only the beans. That poor civet doing the same action over and over is because it's out of its mind with boredom. Utterly cruel.

Probably didn't bother you that it came from animals held in suffering either, did it.

Why not try feed the civet other foods and leave the coffee beans to be naturally picked by hands.Maybe they are no other fruit trees.

I’m just really happy to see animals not being mistreated, it would be nice if they had bigger cages but I’m happy they are taken care of
This is the definition of mistreatment, it is a wild animal that is held in a much smaller enclosure while being incredibly malnourished. Civets regularly lose their fur to the stress and lack of nutrition. Its an animal whose natural instict is to climb and they are leaving them in filthy boxes. They frequently develop a neurosis from these conditions. In addition there is very little oversight so buying a 100% wild certified product is bs because they pretty much all cage them and lie

I would like to see a study of both beans fresh and digested tried by the same unbiased person at three same time.
If you have a chance to visit Indonesia, you'll find out they're not too expensive to obtain, with some bargaining, you may get about $18/lb (about 30% civet coffee, which is pretty good for that price), and they use the beans from the kind they feed the animal with.
You can already smell the difference between the bag with and without blending civet coffee.
Muito triste, a produção vir de uma exploração...espero que nós possamos evoluir no futuro.😢
In India we also process this kinds of coffee by civet poop 💩 but we do not cage civet we find civet poops coffee beans in jungle after that we process it
