Back in the late 1990's and 2000's, the museum for which I volunteered ran a commuter operation to the Indiana State Fair. Engines were F/FP-7, then GP-7/9. Cab temps in the F units reached 110, but were slightly cooler in the Geeps. We didn't care--we were volunteers who qualifed as crew to run trains over a line connected to the general rail system. At least 15 road crossings within the cities of Indianapolis and Fishers.
That's amazing Jason, one because the train was so long, and second, because you were standing out in 92 degrees to film it; still seems one hell on a train for one engine!
I saw comments of 67 cars. If I recall there have been longer trains of 80+. Nice to stand under a shade tree while that long slow train passed by. Go get a nice cold lemonade 🍋!! 👍🇺🇲
The train that came by on Tuesday July 30th was long too. I am seldom around when the train goes by. Was here that day and wow it was like never ending.
Stockpiling cars for LP and that's a new high of 30 Center beams. Also about a dozen gondolas of various Heights and lengths. The way those cars are scrambled that is the way they came out of Green Bay and apparently he did not have adequate room to sort them out in Crivitz. There should be a batch of DJJX gons up in Channing so some should be coming south. Try to stay cool and hydrated. If nothing else watch the KillerBee movie on the E&LS snowplow
@MrEferrell the former Milwaukee Road went to Republic. C&NW & LS&I also did to service mines & timber & o the industries. The track work was complex, so it's not easy to know which rail line is which from present day maps & aerial/satellite photos. LS&I and CN service the present active Cleveland Cliffs mine south of Marquette.
Of the 67 cars, I believe no more than about a dozen or so were loads ( the first cut of hoppers, the 3 glue tanks and about 6 hoppers towards the rear). 502 would be close to its limit, especially on a 90+ day! Talking of which, ELS might be getting close to stopping operations if that heat continues - buckled rail, eh?
I counted 67 cars. Can anyone confirm? I wonder what the overall length of today's train was? I can't believe you took the time to film with the temps so high, thank you! Wea have baking here in SE Michigan for the past couple of days with dew point temps in the 70-degree range! Sticky for sure. Time to go cool off. I wonder why they don't have AC in the cab? And running the train with the cab in the rear getting hit with all that engine and generator heat, I'd have to say those guys were cooking as well. I hope they brought a cooler full of ice and water.
Jason this train was close to a mile long..im hoping that he didnt have ascend any hills because he is close to exceeding the safe limit on how much he can safely pull with that locomotive
They need to redo the track with better ballast and put gates at those crossings. They should also be required by law to put fences along the right of way. Union Pacific did in Conway Arkansas.
im suprised there isnt side lights on that signal from where you were taking video..most of the time at least in plymouth all of the crossings that have sode roads have side lights on them
Question: can you get close enough to film the switching at the mill or is that strictly off limits? We don't need any more trouble, but it would be interesting to see if they have their own power up there. They did have 401 or 402 at one time, but one of those has been parted out in the yard. Idk, it's bee some time.
Hey Jason, can't recall if you've ever covered this, but does ELS have any defect detectors along their line? Just don't recall hearing any or you talking about them. Just curious if they do, and where they're located
If I was 502 Id file a complaint with the NLRB about labor conditions. Its too hot, thats too much for one loco, even a SD40. Ive caught NS that were 140 cars +.
67 cars with 1 engine! I never realized that was a E&LS building!
There used to be a siding that went in and out of the part of that building nearest the tracks.
The glue must be used to make particle board.
@@scotthayes4135 What does that have to do with anything I commented on?
Great long train stay cool great video thanks Jason
Awesome video Jason. Thanks
Jason, you're one cool cookie for staying out of the sun. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Impressive train with one locomotive.
Thanks Jason, that was a mighty long train
Great video of empty center beam cars waiting to be filled up. Thanks.
That bass was eyeballing lunch! lol
Cool video! Run Jason, run!

Great Video, Jason, Have a great weekend.
Awesome train
Thanks for filming. What a long train! Can you imagine if you were waiting for the ambulance or fire department stuck on the other side of the tracks?
Thanks for filming I really enjoyed the video 😊
That was very awesome
Think that's the longest ELS train I've seen yet. And especially with just a single locomotive. Very impressive. 67 freight cars long!😮
Great to see such a long train on this line. Stay cool.
Come January, some of that heat would be appreciated.
Great Video on a very long mixed car train.
That's amazing Jason, one because the train was so long, and second, because you were standing out in 92 degrees to film it; still seems one hell on a train for one engine!
Good video Jason!!!
Wouldn't have thought 502 had it in her. Great video. Hopefully it won't be defunded by TH-cam due to your discussion of your sweat.
Loved your video

Cool video and nice bass made me a little hungry 😋 😂
Great video 😊😊😊
Yeah - Loooong train!
Some of my piece of crap lawnmowers are in those gondolas lol. I was at Alter the other day and WOW was that cool how they do things.
Hello from Cape Coral, Florida! Great video.
LP must have been out of center beams. Wow!
The train that came by on Tuesday July 30th was long too. I am seldom around when the train goes by. Was here that day and wow it was like never ending.
good train video
A long slow train like that you better pack a lunch !
Awsom video
Good video.
The forever train
Chug Chug The rails are a creakin!!!!
Nice long train. Was down in Oklahoma once. Counted 168 car coal train at crossing. I was there eighteen minutes...
I liked it.

I tried to count and got tired, but I'll watch it again
lmao Oops!
That was a long train for you...,😮
HOT here in NE as well...
That's a pretty big train there 67 cars
Quite the train for one engine. what's the humidity like?
Moist
I counted 67 cars behind 502. I saw 501 pulling 80 cars once.
There is a mine South of Ishpeming where they mine that red stuff, and ELS tracks go there.
The tracks do not go there.
@@jasonasselin You are right. Google Earth lies to you sometimes. The right of way is marked with the hash marks like the rails are still there.

Just one engine on this train?
Wow they empty the yard for that train🚂🚃🚃🚃
❤
That was a long train
👍👍👍

Long train jason
Any word yet on their old Conrail unit? Is it being repaired or is done for?
67 cars today.
How are the rails reacting with all that heat?
What industry are the 2 bay covered hoppers coming from/to?
Great video but i bet a lot of vehicles were 💩 ing there pants waiting out that turtle train
what, no AC in the cab? LOL

67 cars is appx. 4000 feet
I had about 66 cars.
Don't they have AC in the cab?
Only 67? Seemed like more
But where are the logs ??
Are you in Wisconsin or Michigan when you filmed this video???
Michigan
There’s only one way to find out what’s in the gondolas. Get on US 2 and watch as it goes underneath
67 cars.
BEAUTIFUL VIDEO FROM HERE BUT NOT SO NICE FOR THE DRIVERS OF THOSE CARS.
Don’t you think that they have AC in the cab???
And such a long train using 1 engine.
Poor engine no wonder it is smoking!!!
DE N2JYG
Not on a class III shortline.
67 is correct.
Yep, 67, that's the same number I got too.
Yep, 67, that's the same count I got.

Just don't recall hearing any or you talking about them.

It's probably a good thing. They're all empty cars.
Comment? OK. Hey how about them White Sox? Do you have any gyros joints in Iron Mountain? I mean real Greek gyros joints?
I've heard that there's a great pasty restaurant in Iron Mountain.
Am I the first to comment? Hello Mr. Jason
If I was 502 Id file a complaint with the NLRB about labor conditions. Its too hot, thats too much for one loco, even a SD40.
Ive caught NS that were 140 cars +.
They actually have AC in the cab.
Sounds like the turbo charger is starting to fail, if it's belching heavy black smoke?
👍👍
