This song was originally called Suicide but it wasn't radio friendly. So, they chopped the name in half. So... Chop Suey (Sui). On the album, before the song starts you can hear the producer in the studio saying "...we're rolling "Suicide"..." The lead singer has a feature he did with Tech N9ne called "Straight out the Gate". Corey Taylor also did one with Tech called "Wither"
The interpretation I’ve heard around Chop Suey is that society views death differently depending on how you died and your station in life. For example, someone who dies from a drug overdose or suicide as a result of mental illness “deserved to die”, and “father, why have you forsaken me” is referring to society disregarding the value of their life and how many people don’t care about junkies, impoverished folks, people with mental health issues, etc. To me, the reference of putting on makeup is having to cover up humanness and flaws to be cared about, which makes you unhappy and lonely, and when you reach out to get help from people they just judge you and that can spiral to a bad ending. If you’re interested in exploring more SOAD, BYOB is worth a listen. It’s even more of a musical roller coaster than Chop Suey and the message is more direct. Toxicity is another great song that dropped the same week as 9/11.
In the 2000 serj was considered best voice, and John drummer Best drummer, if you want to see what system are? Check first album, any song, like suite pee, or know , teach me to be strong and cuestión more then my eyes can see.. my favorite band, and I know him for this song.
I love SOAD, and will watch anything by them, you gained new subscriber. This is a good start with Chop Suey, it didn't get over a billion views for nothing, there is always meaningful and important messages, this is one band that never shy away from using their platform to bring awareness, that many don't and I respect them for it. Thank you for reacting to System of a Down, maybe *Toxicity* or *Aerials* next 🙂
The song "Toxicity" is an absolute banger. Other songs worth reacting to: Spiders, Science, Radio Video, Highway Song, Prison Song, Forest and many others...
to put my mustard on that: I'd recommend for Prison Song going with the live version at "Live at Lowlands", for B.Y.O.B. the semi-official live video from "Live at Astoria 2005" (top mixing quality and Daron singing the harmonies instead of a 2nd Serj) And for every other song the studio version...preferably a lyrics video
The song speaks of great emotional pain. One that forces you to tell lies (make up) Because you lose someone important (angels) Praying for help (father) Redemption to God (forshaken) And losing all the pain in a catharsis (Trust), like the fall of a suicide but choosing to sing it remembering who could not
they are Armenian (kim khardashian) the country was slaughtered by the Ottoman Empire WW1... thats why the songs called CHOP SUEY... thanks for playing my request, respect!
