    Nicaragua is the safest country in central America and they went to EL Salvador, a country way more dangerous, Managua, the capital of Nicaragua is actually quite developed, so are 2 or 3 other cities, still largely poor but some regions definitely aren't really poor, I'd say these richer regions resemble your Average development of Mexico.

    LOL! Too much drama in this lousy video. Why going back and forth from Panama to El Salvador and then to Costa Rica and then by land to Nicaragua?, there are practically daily flights from Panama City to Managua City. The safest way? Come on! Nicaragua is by far the safest country in Central America. They did their best to show the worst picture of Nicaragua. But I guess everybody who's been in Nicaragua noticed it.

    This documentary does not have their facts together. I live here, so many errors in this documentary. The entrance to the canal in the Pacific is not the surf zone Gigante, it is BRITO, there is no surf here¡ Nicaragua is not the 2nd poorest country in Latin America anymore. Now it is ahead of Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, at least. The so called "environmentalists" did not say a single word about environmental destruction in the expansion of the Panama Canal. And lastly, if the press is so sure that the Chinese investor does not have the money, why worry about the environment and the people displaced? If they have another agenda, they have to disclose it to be transparent.

      Nicaragua is always second to last in America, only Haiti is poorer, these are ranks by the IMF, the World Bank, and the United Nations.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you really know that nominal gdp is only usefull for investors right? the real-world one which measures the income vs real costs it's en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita , even tho this is out-dated, nicaragua it's nowdays ahead of honduras and close to guatemala, if you only take in account nominal gdp, even russia it's lower than most of the world.

    william ryder As much as I hate to, i have to agree with you on this one...IF and it is a big IF considering the present Government if Nicaragua. the benefits of a canal truly trickle down to the people at the bottom then they deserve to have it if they want it....their should be absolutely NO influence from outside communities trying to stop something that could benefit the masses. It is always the countries that have ALREADY exploited their own natural resources and attained a level of prosperity that then take issue when any one else tries to do the same. Let them sort it out!

  • @gregb4799
    @gregb4799 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Politics in Nicaragua has found an easy way to make money, they really don't care for the poor, it has been the history of the Country. Nicaragua has a lot of natural resources, and the politics always find the way to make business with these natural resources and forget the real needs of the people. I hope this canal never be built because is only going to bring benefits for the few.

    I couldn't watched the whole documentary I hate when they only say negative things but they don't say the positive things that is living... Nicaragua is third fastest growth economy in Latin America after Panama and Dominican Republic and Nicaragua is changing a lot there's a lot construction and Nicaragua is beautiful and it has a lot of resources and I agree with the construction of a canal because that will help to make the economy grow even faster but this people want to say like 100 times that is second poorest country in Latin America but they still disagree with Intereoceanic canal... Nicaragua is independent and doesn't nobody's opinion for it's own development I'm from Nicaragua and I love my country and I hate this negative things about I'm tired of listening this kind of stuff that is over, Now Nicaragua is changing and you can notice it This government such a better Job than the democratic governments please people you guys need to go and see how beautiful and how Nicaragua is developing you can see it with your eyes all the constructions going on the capital

Nicaragua is a port country, because the united States went to Nicaragua and started a war in the 80's. we took the united state to court and won the lawsuit against the USA. The united States suppose to pay Nicaragua 475,000,000, dollars for the war crimes that they commit and they have refused to do so( ONE OF MY BROTHERS DIED IN THAT WAR. JESUS CHRIST BLESS YOU.

    The fact is that the US doesnt want the canal here cuz they have Panama and Costa Rica, second is a Chinese Billionare who's leading the project meaning China would have a big influence here along with the Russians backing up the project with its military. Of course there would be alot of digging but is narrow and the dirt wuld be use as island. Inside the lake there would be a rout dirrecting the boats. Look at Panama Canal, i dont see no inviromental catastrophy. And keep in my that this country Nicaragua is poor, wtf they want to keep us poor because we want to built a canal that can sustain our family.

    • @beautanner8409
      @beautanner8409 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Environmentally, this project is different from Panama (which has its share of criticism from environmentalists).
      And yes, Panama may be a wealthier place because of the canal. However, if you visit the place, you immediately see that not everybody shares in the wealth equally - it's one of the starkest examples of inequality I think one can see.
      It's worth taking all that into consideration - I think that's all this piece was saying.

In meeting them, whether foreign or domestic, great or small, there is a recurring temptation to feel that some spectacular and costly action could become the miraculous solution to all current difficulties. A huge increase in newer elements of our defense; development of unrealistic programs to cure every ill in agriculture; a dramatic expansion in basic and applied research -- these and many other possibilities, each possibly promising in itself, may be suggested as the only way to the road we wish to travel.” -Dwight Eisenhower.

    As soon as HKND is announced that it is involved, it is a public announcement that British money is also involved. Nothing comes out og Hong Kong without some form of British involvement financially and politically. This is how it works. Chinese money is tied to the HK money which is tied to the UK money which is tied to the American money which is tied to the Gulf oil money which is tied to the Bush family which is tied to Washington DC and CIA etc.. This canal will allow US naval fleets to operate more efficiently and protect American interests. Without the blessing of US, no matter how much Chinese money is involved, accomplishing the canal will be impossible.

    Nicaragua is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I hope they do not build that canal, it has disaster written all over it. It is poor, no doubt the result of the USA funded war, but that is History. Moving forward, I think Costa Rica offers a great model- eco-tourism, agriculture, infrastructure improvement (no canal), better education and health care-which Nicaragua ranks pretty well on. People will visit, retire and invest there.

    There is too many fallacies in this documentary, and I'm sorry but the fact that the interviewer used his peers shows a bias. I'm disappointed since I usually trust this channel's content. The lawyer that said that Nicaragua will only be receiving a few jobs for a short period of time is laughable. A Nicaraguan port accommodated by port cities and other infrastructure incentives to ensure safety around the canal is sure to boost Nicaragua's economy greatly. When the so called "geo-political expert" was asked what her gut says, she simply said "Why do we need it when we have the Panama Canal?" It shows that she doesn't know of the logistics issues, or China's interests. This is bad journalism.

    • @bobhoskins9595
      @bobhoskins9595 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How can you prevent the ocean salt water from mixing with the lake water when the waters are joined? They didn't seem to talk about that. If the lake becomes salty all the fish, a lot of the wildlife there will die. Over time of course they could introduce salt water life into the lake but it would take decades and who knows if it would work? A lot of tourism to Nicaragua might decrease if the canal is built as well. A lot of people go for the natural beauty. Can you imagine seeing an oil taker crossing that lake? Talk about contrast. Real estate values would plummet. Who would want to live by a body of water with oil tankers traversing, only a matter of time before there's an accident.

    I’m Nicaraguan from Little corn island and I will just say that Nicaragua is a beautiful country . Multicultural and with amazing wildlife & peoples. in Nicaragua 70% percent of the population is against this canal Cause it will destroy the forest and of course the wild life as well and also treating to relocated villages or communities of indigenous citizens where there grandparents and so on have being there for centuries. And also the only ones who will really benefit from this massive project ? will be the Sandinistas government and the Chinese . . Nicaragua have better ways to fight poverty which I truly believe is in the education to help prepared people’s who truly loves Nicaragua 🇳🇮 and want to see that vision and to not only see it to also achieve it!!’ the new generation to change Nicaragua to a prosperous and green love 💚🌎 country ! and zero corruption

    the way the story was put together seems one-sided to me, although the majority of of Nicaraguans are well aware of the Monopoly game being played here by the government in benefiting Incorporation.

    Seriously what a bunch of drama...I appreciate what you're trying to do, but of course the country controls entry by journalists. You think foreign journalists aren't given a lot of attention when entering any other country?
    Sorry, nice try but you're trying soooo hard it's kind of a joke. You don't talk to the scientist I know here who, if you would have bothered to contact him, would tell you that the canal route is not some sort of pristine ecosystem, human impacts have already made a huge impact. Plus, if someone really cares about the forest systems, keep in mind that massive reforestation needs to happen to reverse the CURRENT levels of loss of habitat. Guess what, a canal needs so much water that it's absolutely necessary that the forests are returned and improved so the rain will fall, they can capture the water, and be used in the locks.
    I live here and if you are coming to Nicaragua, fly to Managua, the NIcaraguan capital for gods sake, not like these jokers!
    In fact, let me know when you're flying in and I'll come and,pick you up at the airport for the "soft landing" service so you relax right from the start. You will have a great experience, so please come and visit!
    Cheers, Mike @ El Porton Verde, Managua

    You tried very hard to make Nicaragua look dangerous. But you were too obvious. Fail!
    Also, just take a look at Panama. Its way more developed than any other Central American country, and it's because of the Canal. So it has been proven that the Canal will create a huge economic impact in favor of the Nicaraguans.
    I hate it when people care more about saving a strip of a jungle than lifting people out of poverty.

    #s 13, 14, 15, 16, 17) Salvador Montenegro, Director (Or former Director) of the Water resources Research Centre or CIRA (Spanish), for how long did he witnessed the damaging of Managua and Nicaragua lakes without saying, I will say, almost nothing, but even worst how many students he graduated as engineers, I have no idea but being Nicaraguan Higher Education Students, at the bottom of the sac when you compare them with other students across Central, Latin And North America (not including USA or Canada) I doubt he has the knowledge and the expertise to criticize the studies by experts or companies like ERM with which I agree (even if I am not a scientist) but I have more understanding than his political opposition bosses (and NGOs) he is serving to.
    When asked about the destruction of lake Cocibolca, he coincides with other scientists (Katherine Vammen and others) which common answers are as simple as any high schoolers could give, so ambiguous they are. One classic example is the removal of the sediments in the bottom of the lake, they claim that they will be re-suspended which shows their lack of the minimum knowledge on this matter, in my opinion those sediments will be removed by sucking them out and not by shoveling them out of the lake, and also I suppose that they are planing to build a barrier to prevent the sediments on the sides to fill up the trench, though some sediments will accumulate over the years and will have to be removed as routine maintenance. I do not understand how such "scientists" are against the technological advances and suggesting that the 21st Century's technology is behind that of the 19th Century, and that it doesn,t have the answers for all the problems that present a project like that, if I myself "know" how to solve some of them not that I have the capacity to do it, but still I will do better than them. About "salinization" of the lake, if its level is about 105 ft asl, and they will not mix 100% of sea water with fresh water because they will use water saving basins plus the incorporation of the Atlanta lake tha will provide running water to avoid the "invasion" of the Punta Gorda river by the sea, some contamination will occur but that will be minimal, if not explain how Gatun lake is not salty after 100 years of operation, similarly all the challenges could be solved by the advances of the 21st Century I repeat.
    The las point is about the #19, in which Lopez B argues that creatig 25000 jobs does not justifies removing 119000 people, and that "to risk of all our must valuable resources"....... "it doesn't make sense". she is purposely altering the numbers, but even if those were real the impact of a canal is not only because of the people working on the construction but after that, and she doesn't mention that the Economy of Panama helped by the new businesses (tourism, Banks, shipping, factories in duty free zone etc, etc, etc). Must important, we are not 100000 we are 6 million and a half people, if we do not use our resources, what do we need them for, maybe for the first world to come and take them for a couple of million Euros or US Dollars?

    I will center my coments on some of the must interesting points against the Nicaragua Canal "Project", and I will focus on the paragraphs instead of, on the comments by the people:
    #3) If is there any real big project in the world that doesn't require the "modification" of the beautiful, pristine nature: read Emma Marris, Science Journalist, I'll just quote a couple of words from reason.com free minds and free markets "The Myth of Pristine Nature" a review of "Rambunctious Garden: Saving Nature in a Post-Wild World", "Nature is almost everywhere. But wherever it is,there is one thing nature is not: pristine" writes the science journalist in her engaging new book. She adds, "WE must temper our romantic notion of untrammeled wilderness and find room next to it for the more nuanced notion of a global half-wild rambunctious garden, tended by us". Marris' message will disconfort both environmental activists and must ecologists who are in thrall to the damaging cult of pristine wilderness and the false ideology of the balance of nature. But it should encourage the rest of us. I see the uncompromising obsession, of the scientists and environmentalists, that even lie and put first their romanticism over de development of the whole country, and, I am certain, they will push the country at the edge of war, or destroy it,s unity instead of admitting that a developed Nicaragua will be more capable of reversing the damage already done, and will continue to be done by agriculture and other human activities on the rain forests mountains and must important river basins (7 to the Caribean) and the smaller but not less importants to the Atlantic.

    Use Eminent Domain Laws to build the canal. Nicaragua only has 6 million people. This canal will generate Jobs, foster Tourism, New life, buildings, hotels, beach front property like in Panama. Each ship pays a fortune to cross, it will generate Billions, it will connect Brasil and eastern Southamerica with China. El canal va a generar empleos, El turismo va a crecer como en Panama, edificios y hoteles en la playa, cada barco paga una fortuna para poder cruzar... Brasil y el este de Sudamerica va estar mas conectado con China. Petroleo se puede exportar a China por el Canal de Nicaragua. Nicaragua va a ser el mas rico per capita de Latinoamerica.
