That's very good advice, Tom! We have two of the classic police cars you saved here in our Detroit workshop. Scammers have already tried to resell parts off of them by stealing our photos from Facebook and throwing them up on Marketplace. Keep fighting the good fight and good luck rescuing more forgotten classics. Merry Christmas and happy new year!
@@rocketresto Fantastic! Glad to have you along for the ride. We love old Mopar cop cars here in the Motor City as so few of them survived our harsh weather and rough roads. We'll do our best to showcase the work it takes to bring them back to their former glory and share them with our fellow fans.
Good stuff. A scammer tried getting me on a 1/18 scale model group, and it was so easy to tell what he was doing to several people all at the same time. Unless, of course, he just happened to have one of everything people there were looking for.
I’ve seen that same Cuda listed in North Carolina. Like you said, always check profiles and look at their other listings!! If they’re Mopar people, I look for mutual friends. Great video and great information!!
Another way to spot scammers using "borrowed" pics is to look at the landscape (if the pics are taken outside) and see if it matches the supposed location of the ad. I recently saw a 70 Super Bee project car listed as being in Vancouver BC but the pics were taken in a driveway of an acreage that looked like somewhere in SE USA going by the trees and landscape. It was a scam and someone local got burned by sending a deposit for it.
It's crazy what happens on FB market place. This is some good info to avoid these scams. Sorry it happened to you. At least it was caught before any real damage was done.
I've always wondered how the people that do this walk around with such massive balls. For what it's worth I'll keep my eye out up here as well just in case. Merry Christmas to you and the family!
Depends on if the car is sorted out or not...I sold my '72 Cuda 340 to a guy and he had it 6 years with no issues. He doesn't drive hard like I do nor as much as I drive my old cars .. I tune his car up once a year, look it over and that's all in 6 years. I put 40,000 miles on my 68 Charger R/T since I rebuilt it, and nothing went wrong except a leaking lower rad hose and rear wheel cyl. a few years after that's just general maintenance, never stranded. You can have old cars that nothing went wrong, it's rare as most people don't know how to put them together these days. I spend 2 weeks driving them daily after to find/fix squeaks, rattles and mechanical issues, worked for me since a teen in the 80' s doing this and I am much better now . I only work/restore my cars no customers but when I sell them if they want me to maintain them, I will.. I don't restore cars that general public comes in. Customers cars, depending on the person I will continue doing maintenance and maybe other repairs. These fake adds are easy to spot, nice cars way too cheap and spelling mistakes and backgrounds with palm trees or mountains or beautiful weather when winter etc..If you search their name if multiple adds of different cars backgrounds you can tell its fake.
Happened to me buying a 67 Dart GT trunk trim panel. I learned this stuff the hard way. Great video. Hopefully it will save someone from getting scammed. There seems to be a lot of these guys out there now.
That fake yard featured at the end of the video is Billy West Racing Garage. An all Mopar salvage yard located in NC. I've been there times and have a video or two on my channel featuring trips there. I recognized it as soon as I seen the picture.
Hey Tom great video and information. Another thing you could do is instead of marking your sold ads sold, just delete them. It won't stop it from happening, but it can't hurt.
I have seen people block plates in legit adds. Also whenever I take photos at car shows, when I edit them, I make the plates unreadable for privacy reasons before posting them. Its still worth looking into though
It’s disgraceful what the world has become. I get a dozen or more scam emails a day from bs email accounts selling whatever or letting you know you won a contest you didn’t answer. I just assume everything is a scam these days.

What I hear you saying is that if I contact you via FB, you won't be responding. I don't blame you after you said what you said; it makes perfect sense. Nonetheless, I've been thinking of starting a FB account for the sole purpose of having access to Marketplace. I will include no photos and I will invite no friends. Tom; This is really scary stuff. The sad thing is it is close to impossible to catch those doing it. PS-Nice nose hair! PS/PS- Did you sell Jamie that 1981 car that dare call itself a Challenger? I’ve been riding his ass because he knows how a near-bankrupt Chrysler Corp slapped the revered “Challenger” name on this Mitsubishi in an attempt to make a fast buck but he shamelessly keeps putting up videos because it’s somehow getting subscribers by 40-something that think it’s a cool car. How could any respectable MOPAR lover look themselves in the mirror, with shaved beard, putting videos up of this turd!! Great video Tom, I get a kick out of the people that list cars for sale and they claim to be in California but the back round pictures are in Alaska.

I never understood buying a car without looking at it, and im sure glad i won't.

Excellent Video. Thank you for sharing. It is recommended to put a watermark on every picture with your number or email.

None of this is full proof but another thing that raises questions for me. You have to look at the whole picture.
A real seller will meet in person. Scammers won't.
Sometimes the person isn’t close to you but you aren’t wrong.
