Joni Mitchell is a storyteller supreme. She wrote some of the best lyrics music ever. She's a real Rennaissance Woman, Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Poet, and Painter, the lady bleeds creativity!
@@tomroome4118 I'll light the fire (while) You put the flowers in the vase That you bought today Staring at the fire For hours and hours While I listen to you Play your love songs All night long for me Only for me
The clever way she develops 'Jingle Bells' and turns it into a melancholy, ache of emotion is so brilliant it makes me want to cry (or skate away). She has a long and full catalog of amazing, poetic, and heartfelt music. She is up there with the cream. The Best of the Best. A musical treasure for all of humanity. (yeah, I like her)
I highly tevommend this entire album, 'Blue' is widely regarded as one of the most importabt releases of the era. Her ability to write and deliver songs with such direct emotional impact was a revealation and has inspired generations of songwriters and artists since.
She's a very unique and remarkably talented artist - a total titan of the industry when the music industry still existed. All we have left now is the music business, which is why this older stuff still resonates.
I used to visit mates & we would share new albums, the 1st time I heard "Blue" it didn't gel in a crowded room, later that night on my own I read some of the lyrics & decided to put the album back on, laid on the floor with the record player behind my head & played it again, & fell in love, the poetry, the flow of vocals & music, Joni's openness. This album is a masterpiece in it's raw beauty. There are many others, happy journey through the catalogue of the best singer song writer ever.
Joni had a baby that she gave up for adoption. That is why she says "I am gonna make a lot of money , and quit this crazy scene". Many years later she managed to reunite with her daughter. A happy ending! Polo please listen to her jazzy stuff, like Cotton avenue or Down to you.
And he's the one (of the better channels) who is giving the ladies' songs some reactions. It's been very frustrating trying to get people to hear the women.
Joni is possibly one of the greatest singer songwriters of the last 50 years. She wrote the music and lyrics, played and sang, and walked away when she was done with it. Not typical but a cool lady.
So sad and so beautiful. This song is about her break up with Graham Nash from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and her wanting to come back home to Canada.
Whenever I'm asked who my favorite singer-songwriter is, there's no hesitation to reply. Then they ask why. Because she reaches me. Deeply. She's my musical godmother and I love her dearly.
Besides being a Brilliant, singer songwriter, Joni was an artist. She paints self portraits, landscapes, and abstracts on large canvases, And considers herself an artist before a musician. She did most of the art for this video. I suggest Woodstock, Circle Game or California for her next song.
I absolutely adore this song. I remember first hearing it from the Indigo Girls, which I loved. Then I heard Joni. OMG....no words do this track justice.
Love this song and Ms. Joni. I also listen to it whenever, not only for Christmas in my mind. Christmas can be and is very hard for a lot a people, and sometimes a good cry helps. Happy Holidays and a wonderful 2025.
Thought you might find this interesting, Led Zeppelin apparently had a song about Joni Mitchell, going to California. You should definitely check it out.
There is a video on TH-cam where Joni Mitchell sings this song with Herbie Hancock on the piano and several jazz musicians backing her up. I believe itwas at Yahoo headquarters.
Joni is the best. Period. Her combination of personal (alomost too personal at times!) lyrics, musical talent, voice, creativity, artistry... it really is unmatched. Oh, and she is also a great painter. Keep going, you won't be sorry.
I still have my vinyl copy of this from over 50 years back. Every track is wonderful. She wrote this after splitting up with Graham Nash (from Crosby Stills and Nash). It's hard to recommend one track for review but if pushed I'd say, "A Case of You" is right up there. Rolling Stone voted the album the 3rd greatest album of all time. Joni Mitchel eventually drifted towards jazz, which her vocals suited perfectly, working with Pat Metheny and Jaco Pastorius. The JM album "Mingus" might interest you.
Middle age woman from Canada here and life long Joni Mitchell fan. What a joy it is to see someone new to this song experience it for the first time This album, Blue, is my favourite record of all time, of any artist When she recorded it she apparently cried all the way through. She put every inch of herself into it She’s my musical hero Someday listen to the whole album privately and just take it in. You won’t regret it
Ah, Joni….beautiful Joni! How I miss seeing her/listening to her. She had a massive stroke several years ago, and though she still performs on that rare occasion, she has mostly retired. She is one of the most influential women in pop music of any generation…..Joni is awesome, and this is my hands down fav of hers…..I adore it, and I adore Joni Mitchell! Thanks for reviewing it! It is so very lovely!!! ❤
No sir, it's not just you that think she's a top tier singer and songwriter, experts and laymen say so too. Then again all you have to do is listen. Voice of an angel. I really love the song. Have you done "Help Me"?
Listen young man.....Joni MItchell's voice is the sound of the angel of death!! It is the sound of the Phoenix!! It is the crusting scabs of emotional hurt and then the picking at those scabs and then the healing and then the skin growing bigger and healthier and there is still a scar. Joni MItchell writes and sings and understands what it is to be human skin..........I love you Polo.
One of my favorite songs by Joni. It has a seasonal vibe, but it's more about love and loss, and maybe wanting to escape. Joni was always pushing boundaries and searching. You might also enjoy Free Man in Paris.
When she wrote this she was living in Los Angeles, sunny California; she grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada (just north of Montana/ North Dakota) where the winters are frozen wasteland in the winter, representing a more simple life than the sometimes more complicated life of a trying to make it as a musician.
Years ago I went to a concert where Joni Mitchell opened the show and blew us all away. So you may ask, who could possibly follow her? Well Van Morrison came up next, and then Bob Dylan....those were the days!
I've always thought Joni made music that refines the heart. The convergence of her poetry, melody, instrumentation, and her magical voice, always lyrical and intimate. She expands and cultivates me.
Thank you to the listener who recommended this song! Definitely one in the top tier. Joni is like The Beatles, so many amazing songs on so many amazing albums, not a bad one in the bunch. One that sometimes gets overlooked is Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, and there is an 18 min song on it, that is like a magnum opus, a very inventive and complex song. Happy New Year to you Polo, and looking forward to 2025 reactions!
Joni has a quite wonderful catalogue, unmatched for its depth of emotion and songwriting. For me, quite probably the greatest catalogue ever committed to tape, enjoy the journey - I wish I could discover it all again.
I always think of skating outdoors on frozen rivers when I hear this. going for miles flying between river and sky. Its such a great way to lose yourself This song does bring that back... Not a Christmas song. The season is a major part of the setting....happy and joyful, colour and light. It makes pain sharper from the breakup or loss.
Hey Polo, long time lurker who has really enjoyed your channel and music journey. Your “old soul” and desire for beautiful music has been reassuring to me that this amazingmusic will live on. Joni is up there with the greatest poets of the 20th century and then there is her musicality and voice that is what we would call a triple threat. So creative and open. Thank you and please keep on keepin on sir…
We may never have another Joni . To me, she’s the best ever. The combination of musicianship, songwriting and vocal ability is remarkable! Sorry, Bob - Joni rules the roost!
I love your comment about being 16. Joni was on heavy rotation in my house when I was that age. I can sing every single word of this album, at the top of my lungs. Not well, but loud.😁
'Long and full catalog' - wish granted. Joni Mitchell probably has the highest quality catalog of anybody in an incredibly talented generation. From 1968-76, you can basically say there's not a clinker anywhere. Some of the most simplistic songs in that era are her biggest hits. After that, a little more up and down but still with amazing highs and she never stopped exploring artistically. But during that original period, she's probably the finest songwriter there is - words to rival Bob Dylan and music far beyond him.
Great voice, great artist and amazing lyrics.. There are a lot of incredible female vocalists out there including Cyndi Lauper "Time After Time", Aurora "Murder 5,4,3,2,1",..
My high school friend Kathy introduced me to so much great music, including Joni Mitchell. Kathy played beautiful piano and also wrote poetry and we used to listen to Blue for hours on end and then she'd make up her own songs. We lost touch after high school and I miss her to this day.

She was a trained "classical" songstress.
This song is about her breakup with Graham Nash. It's one of my favorites of hers. May I suggest her jazzy side a song called "Coyote"
Any thing from this album 'Blue' will blow you away
"A Case of You" is in my opinion the best song on the album
Every single song on "Blue"! But yes, A Case of You. All I Want.
Joni Mitchell is a storyteller supreme. She wrote some of the best lyrics music ever. She's a real Rennaissance Woman, Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Poet, and Painter, the lady bleeds creativity!
Her album Blue is genuinely one of the best of all time 💙
She is certainly one of the greatest songwriters in the world. Enjoy her rabbit hole!
After she left Graham Nash, she longed for Canada.
You’re gonna love her “ Help Me”- talk about sultry!
Listen to "Our House" by CS&N to hear the good times.

Joni is one of those once in a lifetime singer-songwriters. i will never tire of her. if you haven't listened to it, i recommend "A Case of You."

In my opinion the greatest album by a female artist/group
@@BerryBlossomCt I think so too, can't think of any other album by a woman that rivals the songs on Blue. Everyone is a masterpiece.
She's a very unique and remarkably talented artist - a total titan of the industry when the music industry still existed. All we have left now is the music business, which is why this older stuff still resonates.
I love that Joni wrote such a beautiful, sad Christmas song. It’s not always a happy time for everyone, after all.
"A Case of You"
That's the one.
Absolutely!!
he already rated that one
"Blue" is pretty much a perfect album. It's worth hearing every single track in order and all together.
Joni taps into my heart and soul like no one else. Absolutely the best.
If you love this, the whole Blue album, which this comes from, would be on your playlist. It is one of the great albums of all time.
Her phrasing and breath control is unmatched.
Some songwriters have it. You can feel their life has been lived with eyes and heart wide open. Joni is that essence. She has it. And I love it.
A friend gave me Joni Mitchell's album " Blue" in 1974 and I was hooked. Still think she's a genius.
I feel that way about Court and Spark. Never tire of that album.
@jainthorne4136 Yes. I love that too.
at 15 and firmly depressed and scared most of the time as I was living on my own - this song was important to me all the year long.
Joni did all her cover artwork. Look at her album art. She is a complete artist. One of my favorite artists.
Yes,anything from 'Blue' is right on the money
Joni had a baby that she gave up for adoption. That is why she says "I am gonna make a lot of money , and quit this crazy scene". Many years later she managed to reunite with her daughter. A happy ending! Polo please listen to her jazzy stuff, like Cotton avenue or Down to you.

Best album...Court and Spark
Was Graham Nash the dad?
Polo, you are my favorite reactor. I just love how thoughtful you are. Prince was really inspired by Joni mitchell, if you can believe it.
And he's the one (of the better channels) who is giving the ladies' songs some reactions. It's been very frustrating trying to get people to hear the women.
Prince was genius and recognized genius
This song always makes me cry. You can totally feel her pain.
Joni is possibly one of the greatest singer songwriters of the last 50 years. She wrote the music and lyrics, played and sang, and walked away when she was done with it. Not typical but a cool lady.
“Down To You” is one of Joni’s high points, you should really check out that song. Stunning performance and arrangement.
Just listen to the entire Blue
album from start to finish 💙💙💙🎄

The art is by Joni as well who considered herself to be an artist that also sang and wrote music.
Touched me deeply as it did at age 16. Her paintings are delicate and touching - perfect in this video. Beautiful choice Polo
Just your average masterpiece here
Love you
She just draws the emotion out of you. Makes you think and feel. Genius. Blue is my favorite album. Take a deep dive. You will not be sorry.
I highly suggest ‘A Case of You’ next. Another one of her songs that gives you chills.
Joni got me through my teens. Premium artistry. Her catalog is exquisite....jazzy...great jazzy...in her later years.
Besides being a Brilliant, singer songwriter, Joni was an artist. She paints self portraits, landscapes, and abstracts on large canvases, And considers herself an artist before a musician. She did most of the art for this video.

One of Prince's favourite artists apparently.
🌸 Joni has said - "I sing my sorrows and I paint my joys."
Beautiful song. The whole album is classic. I discovered it as a teen in the 70s, played the album over and over...
Her catalog is endless. This is a fave of mine too. So raw and open
I absolutely adore this song. I remember first hearing it from the Indigo Girls, which I loved. Then I heard Joni. OMG....no words do this track justice.

Great song by a great artist.
Me. I am big Joni fan. My favorites are Coyote and Amelia. I'm not sure songwriting comes any better than Amelia.
Those are two of my top favorites as well. I also love "Song for Sharon" and "Refuge From the Road" from that album.

What a wonderful way to open you up to Joni Mitchell. She is a gift.
Watch her live BBC concert from October 1970. It will blow your mind. Just her with one instrument at a time. The best.
I love your comment about being 16. Joni was on heavy rotation in my house when I was that age. I can sing every single word of this album, at the top of my lungs. Not well, but loud.😁
Absolute CHILLS every time I hear this song... tears too... ❤
I’d recommend the live version of Woodstock. Filmed in 69 or 70. She’s wearing a pink dress. It’ll blow you away.
I think she missed being at Woodstock due to other commitments.
My favorite Joni song. Thanks for playing.
When this album came out, and I was a teen, I did exactly that….listened to this over and over.
You can just feel the winters of her Canadian childhood.
Prince loved Joni...genius recognizes genius !
The song that refers the the banished gave up is titled “little green” from the same album. But they are all beautiful. ❤
I love Joni’s live version of “Free Man In Paris”❤❤❤
This is my favorite Joni song. Thanks for playing it
So beautiful. One of my personal favorites is her song “Amelia”. If you liked “River” as much as it appears you did, I think you would also love it.
