Islands is absolutely amazing and melodic album, every single tune is legendary, it's 2020 and it's still in my headphones🥰 I totally think Kajagoogoo post Limahl was underestimated and Nick Beggs is real cool😎

Who's feeling the nostalgia of this video mates? I've been Kajagoogo's big fan for so long in this life and I remeber this so much.
No cellphones, no internet but first class songs made those years one of the best of our lifes.
Only took me 40 years to realise how similar this song sounds like level 42 back then. 2 amazing 80s bands.
Keyboards, drum machine, electric guitar and saxophone, Colin Thurston knew how to best squeeze every fucking note out of these instruments! Duran Duran, David Bowie and Talk Talk, among others, owe a good chunk of their success to his insane wits.

Kajagoogoo had the potential to be one of the best bands of the 80s had they not got rid of Limahl.
They had hits after he left and Nick Beggs founded Ellis beggs and Howard as well as working in various jobs in the music industry. Limalh did not do too badly after leaving the band.
I love that saxophone part in this song!
One of my favourite songs of all time,Limahl on lead vocals is simply superb and kajagoogoo themselves were very good.

One of the most beautiful song I have ever heard sung by one of the best vocalist (Nick Beggs) I have ever heard (what a colour of his voice!) from the best album I know (Islands). Heart healing, endorphins producing, life improving. By the way: Nick is one of the best bassist worldwide.

I actually think Nick's a bit better as a vocalist and I for the life of me can't understand why they were so underrated. They're both great vocalists though and the band is at it's best with both of them.
@J4MM they compliment each other. the songs Nick sings just wouldn't work with Limahl's voice.

A part of my childhood, only I didn't know it! Long live the internet, takes such a few, just a few, thumb-presses to find a vid that's long lived in your brain. 'Life in the Big Apple' - the refrain like a tolling bell would come to me every now and again over the years.
I was born and raised in the bronx and I'm pretty sure that in november 1989 when I was born it looked like this but the NYC I remember didnt. I've seen movies and tv shows etc from 70s/80s nyc and I kinda wished I thoroughly lived in this era. It's so surreal.

English isn't my first language so I never understood the meaning of the songs I was listening. This song in particular was funny couse I knew the word apple and big, so I thought that they were singing about apples omg🤦🏻♀️. What a surprise for me when I realised that he was sining about NYC (I hope this time I get it right haha)

Pure 80s goodness. That's what these "new retro wave" and synthwave re-hashing assholes don't get about that era's music. It wasn't just about synth effects & electro type instrumentals. They had actual SAXOPHONES and GOOD VOCALS to go along with it!

There were loads of different styles. Obviously the likes of Erasure, OMD and Depeche Mode were not dominated by saxophones and horns. And there are plenty of retrowave artists who do embrace that sound.
It's not just that, the sound quality of the synths were different. The way the audio guys put it through was different too. The modern synthwave stuff is too "sharp" in tone. They would do fine if they made melody using vintage equipment.

Still one of the best 80’s gems and the best NYC tune, I always play whilst driving down FDR drive.

I liked Kajagoogoo from my days watching MTV. This is my first time hearing them w/o Limahl. I had always noticed, but never heard, this lead singer. Great song, great band. I wonder why they never played it much in the US?

last time i saw this video i was probably 9 or 10 years old, we had the vhs tape and used to watch NOW uk top charts. So weird seeing it again, and now the lyrics make sense, had no idea what they were saying back then. in my late 30s now.

Man the 80s was always so cool I was a kid in the 80s but we used to ride our bikes around and live life like The Goonies up here in the northwest.
I always notice these 80s videos there's always guys with mullets leaning on a post.
By the way I have a mullet and now I've noticed all these people starting to grow mullets I used to be the only one but apparently they're making a comeback.
