Great to see a Honda Fit used for a cross country trip. Mine is a 2010 and it averages 42 mpg Hwy. I think having tinted mirrors would do wonders for your Fit. It'll cool down the car interior going on those long drives in the daytime.
I like to bring a tent even for car camping. For Walmart and side of the road I sleep in the car but for BLM campgrounds etc. I find it easier to setup/breakdown the tent but the car is left setup for driving.
I did bring a tent. instagram.com/p/BaJ-iPkFrcK/. The idea was to have it to hold a campsite or for clearing out space for even more comfortable sleeping.
Cool video man. I plan to drive from southern CA to florida and don't have a clue . how many milea to drive a day or what to do. I have penlty of time. I am driving in a vw passat wagon. Any suggestions
Coach-- A lot of people like to drive many hours per day. I get tired of staring at the road all day. I recommend that you try to see how far you can go until you want a break.... to eat, or nap or check out something interesting along the way. If you use a road atlas, you could see the distances between cities and then plan for how far you want to try to go each day. I would pay attention to the weather that you're driving into and drive enough to get away from too much heat or rain or whatever you don't like. It gets hot in Arizona and a lot of people drive at night to avoid the heat. In some parts of the country, there is nothing to see for long stretches of road, so get your car comfortable (air conditioning, drinks & snacks etc) and just drive and drive. Sorry this is so long, but one more thing. Think about leaving So Cal at a time to avoid commute traffic and, as you go across through the states, leave time to find your sleeping locations-- don't wait too late at night. What looks like a short drive to a campground, might take much longer when you're in the mountains and it will get really dark too. Also... I've spent a lot of time driving Hwy 10 from So. Cal to Arizona; but not as far as Florida.
Was looking at a Fit for myself for travel similar to yours, but dealer advised it was not a good miles eater (noisy and not very comfortable and lack of power in the mountains) and wanted to put me in a HR-V. Have to rethink that after seing your Vid. I am not too hot on "privacy" panels. Like to be able to see surroundings. Eye shades work for me. Thanks for taking us on your trip.
$162 not counting the fact that I started on a full tank of gas out of my own pocket. Average fill-up was about $23. Fuel costs are generally cheaper outside of California.

Interstate 10 all the way. I think a road atlas would be helpful.

Nicely done, What were you driving? Honda Fit? Reviews peg it more as a city vehicle but it looks like you were quite comfortable on the long hauls?
Yes, a 2011 Honda Fit. I love this car even more.

an interesting vlog...how much did you spend on gas for the whole trip across?

interesting; i expected it would cost a lot more...but you don't have a guzzler either...i'd like to know how much a hybrid would cost on that trip...
