Is the heat gun the usual way to heat prior to molding?

Hi Poppy, thank you for your question. Yes, the Orficast was heated prior to moulding. The material can be heated in a water bath at 65°C/149°F.

Can this work for an orficast width 3 cm - 1 1/6''?

Hi there! For an adult, the Orficast 3 cm is too narrow and will not support the thumb. For a small child, the 3 cm width could perhaps work.
