  • Is coffee good for the brain, heart, and liver? Find out: bit.ly/2Gd6GYy
One of the most common questions I’ve been getting recently is, “Is coffee bad for you?” The answer is, yes … and no.
Coffee is beneficial because it contains massive amounts of antioxidants, which help slow the ageing process and protect you from free radical damage. Coffee also helps stimulate the liver and increases circulation, helping blood flow to the brain.
Coffee can be harmful in some ways because of the amount of caffeine it contains. The caffeine in coffee can overstimulate the body, burn out your adrenal glands, and overtax your body.
About 80% of people in the world will struggle with thyroid problems or fatigue issues. For this group, I wouldn’t recommend coffee because it will burn out your adrenal glands. However, if you’re generally healthy, then drinking coffee in moderate amounts can be fine, and even good for your health. I wouldn’t recommend drinking coffee past lunch time because it can affect your sleep cycle that night.
Depending on the condition of your body, if you’re suffering from an autoimmune disease, coffee can make your disease worse. If you’re pretty healthy, looking for a pick-me-up, or looking for more antioxidants, then coffee can provide you with these benefits. When picking out your coffee beans, I would recommend choosing all natural, organic coffee because it’s one of the most highly sprayed plants in the world. Lastly, if you’re looking for a great substitute for coffee, I would suggest drinking matcha green tea because it has great benefits and one-third the amount of caffeine.

I'm a transverse myelitis patient, who had to learn to walk again, about six years ago. One of my continuing problems is fatigue issues. And since I gave up coffee over 26 years ago, I've found green tea to be just the thing to get me to punch through my days without crashing out at odd moments during the day.

I’m fully addicted to coffee. I’m going to quit today. Thank you for this video.
I liked what you said about drinking organic coffee only. I switched to organic a while ago and I recently got some Non-organic Starbucks coffee and I noticed such a difference. It seriously made me angry and on edge rather than just a simple boost of energy. I imagine it’s the negative affects of all of the pesticides that were on the beans that I was in turn ingesting.

It's not peciticides. It's just either more caffiene or more additives. There will never in a million years be enough pesticide on any food consumed to do anything to the human body. The body has filters for toxins and people forget that. The bad toxins are in such tiny amounts that If your body is even remotely healthy than it will purge that foreign agents out.

One more thing to consider - what you add to your coffee - if you have a latte with vanilla syrup added or cafe mocha etc.. It is these additions that can change the healthiness of any drink, including coffee. So what the doctor states - only applies to black coffee with no additions

OMG I've been suffering with Autoimmune Thyroid for years and not once have I heard from any of my Doctors that coffee is bad for me. I drink a ton of it, that's why this news is a shock to me. Along with Autoimmune problems I've suffered with depression my whole life. To clarify, my depression is so bad that I am on disability due to it. Coffee has been something I've clinged to that has been the only thing at times to get me out of bed on so many days. Not only does it have a comforting taste to me but it gives me the little bit of hope that maybe after I drink some I will have the energy to face the day and not go back to sleep. I've known I drink it way more then the average person and people have commented about not understanding how i can handle drinking that much of it (12 cups/day) without getting jittery. Now after watching this video I'm scared that I've destroyed my adrenals which I'm guessing would cause fatigue, which I have in abundance. Is this really a possibility? Something I've been relying on to keep me going is actually slowing me down and probably from the sounds of it even making my depression worse??? That would be for people with hormonal issues, burning out your adrenal glands as you put it (kind of like some drugs that make you high but deplete your Serotonin and then you crash is how it sounds to me), but why exactly did u so avidly also speak AGAINST coffee for Autoimmune people if it is so full of antioxidants? Could you clarify that please? I'm trying to wrap my head around this whole idea.

I don't think coffee is "one of the 5 highest foods in antioxidants today". It is however, one of the top 5 WAYS Americans get their antioxidants...because it is so frequently consumed. One of the top 5 sources today, but not one of the top 5 foods highest in antioxidants.

I switched out coffee and replaced it with four ounces of non-sweet pure 100% blueberry juice added to my daily drinking water. It speaks for itself… and my body noticed the positive change very quickly. After cutting out most sugars, I now use 100% pure organic pomegranate juice when I want something sweeter in this oh-so-toxic world.

loving the answer :) so what i noticed when i started to buy high quality organic coffee is the color of the beans: its a much lighter roast. Industrially produced coffee is generally over roasted and all my local coffee experts agree on that. The lighter the roast, the better it can be for our stomach.... but, i am not a Doctor. That are my experiences and what i learned from coffee roasters and owners of local coffee shops and my body.

But I was recently told by my doctor that I am in the early stages of an autoimmune disease. I still need to have more testing done. My biggest complaints are fatigue (even after a solid nine hours of sleep) and achy joints. I also have some skin issues that the doc thinks is related to that.

After no coffee for one week the chronic swelling diminished drastically by about 95%. I was shocked. I had recently started to develop plantar fascistic in one foot. Looking back I remember drinking an abnormal amount of soda pop for a 2 week period so, I have cut that out and along with exercise that problem is going away. Coffee makes your bones hurt because it is known to leech magnesium and CALCIUM from your body and bones. Love your videos! THank you! I do have a question, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, soon after entering menopause. No tests done other than TSH, T3 and T4 and given levo medication for the thyroid. I'm trying to do things much more naturally, get off the meds, and take more selenium/kelp and other vitamins. But my main question is, in the morning, I love getting one cappuccino, with 2% organic milk, organic mild, low acid coffee, and two teas of raw sugar in the morning with my vega one protein shake with bee pollen, chia/flax/hemp seed. Should I still stay away from this one coffee? I don't do it for energy, but merely for taste and it doesn't seem to energize me. Thank you for your feedback, you are really great and love your videos and information! And by the way, I am a totally organic, supplement taking person as it is with only organic chicken, and sometimes sardines and fish.

I drink two cups of black coffee with no sugar every morning and then the rest of the day drink a variety of organic decaf teas with no sugar or milk.
Honestly it took me a long time to get used to both without milk, sugar, honey and other flavor enhancers, now i love just straight up plain coffee and tea.

If you liked this video, you may also want to know that there's research out there saying that coffee makes heart and vessel disease (cardiovascular disease) worse because it raises LDL cholesterol, but that’s not the whole story! We now know that LDL particles can either be large and buoyant, or small and dense. When LDL particles are large and buoyant, they can help decrease risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). And coffee can transition LDL particles from small and dense to large and buoyant, decreasing CVD risk!

Dr.Josh. I love your channel, but I differ with you a little bit on Coffee.
As far as addiction to Coffee due to caffeine or any other component is concerned, it makes no sense according to me.
    Dependent behavior?
Are you not supposed to be dependent on food?
Coffee is a food, not a drug such as tobacco or alcohol and it has nutritional value as stated by you.
    Besides that, Adrenal Fatigue.
There cannot be adrenal fatigue if you work out regularly in moderate amount. So, no physical movement is to be blamed. It is not Coffee that really causes adrenal fatigue. People don't move all day and then suddenly expect spikes of energy through stimulants like Coffee. So, what is to be blamed? Sluggish lymphatic circulation due to lack of movement or Coffee?
My point is, Coffee is a good stimulant and awesome, but it cannot make out for lack of exercise like people expect.
Coffee Is Just Awesome. I even see a lot of people even doctors who put Coffee in the same category as tobacco and alcohol. According to me, they are simply retarded. Coffee is seen as an addictive drug just like cigarettes and alcohol, which it is absolutely not. These substances only harm the body. Coffee benefits the body as you pointed out.
I want to say that Coffee is a food, not a drug. Idiots have given it a bad reputation and so many people are deprived of its amazingness. Even those who sip coffee at Starbucks all day, I wonder what are they really addicted to? Caffeine or Sugar?
