    I live in Corvallis, so enjoy the presence of P&W's GPs several times a week. I also enjoy seeing 1501 sorting and kicking cars around the Albany yard. Her 567 still sounds amazing!

    Great video, enjoy hearing the history of the area railroads. It is a shame that there is not enough business to continue the line to Astoria. Would like to explore more of the lines in Oregon. Thanks

      Yes this is true. Personally I did not think about it much at the time. The idea is that this is an opener for a series on the PNWR system. Details like that and much more will be explored in future episodes.

    How Many Districts Does The Portland & Western Railroad Own?

    • @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL
      @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do not own all the districts they run on. They technically lease the old SP lines from UP and bought the lines off the BNSF for the most part.

    The units 3052 & 3053 are SD40-2's. They did that because they derated it from SD45R

    • @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL
      @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was finding a lot of conflicting information on that. I knew they were ex SD45s that had been modified. How it was classified was different on who I asked.

    Its interesting that SP had the line till WPRR took it over than BNSF bought out and merged and took over the line this line been here over 100 years P & W only runs through Oregon although they do go into Vancouver using UP line, although BNSF owns the line now P & W does the grunt work of maintaining it.

    I live in North Plains and Banks lumber mill just closed so rail traffic probably isn't going to be much out hear any more

    • @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL
      @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The closure of that Mill will not affect the regular traffic on that line. If you watch this film you will see that the United line connects to the Tillamook district which the PNWR uses to runs a "Daily" train between Tigard and Linnton. This train is the one that switches out the mill in Banks as they pass by. For now the crew will just pass by Banks rather than stopping.

    5:50 what is that branch going south for? It has been ripped up and Cornelius Pass Road currently runs along the south end of it but where did that branch go?

    • @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL
      @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Originally this was part of the OE Mainline to Eugene. From Bowers Junction it would run south then southeast to Beaverton then Garden Home. At Garden home there was a junction for the line east to Portland and southwest to Tigard where the line would cross over the SP Tillamook line and head south as it still does today. When the PNWR was in operation that spur line from Bowers Junction was referred to as the Bendemeer District and there was a a customer in Bendemeer that took plastic pellets before the track was pulled up.

      @@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL Did any of that route get used for the MAX blue line ? There were some trestle piers along US26 about 100 feet east of Cornelius Pass Road overpass at US26, and a few remnants of the rails before CPR was widened a few years ago.

      @@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL PNWR has acquired several more units: PNWR 2411, a Knoxville Locomotive Works (KLW) NZE24B, originally a CSX Genset unit that was rebuilt from a C&O GP9 frame, most recently worked on California Northern Railroad (CFNR), PNWR 3532, originally Missouri Pacific (MP) GP38-2 # 925, later HLCX # 1829, and PNWR 3546, originally Missouri Pacific (MP) GP38-2 # 2119, later HLCX # 1852.

      @@stuartadamsrailfanningvideos The 2411 is a hoax and is still a CFNR unit. I know the guy that photoshopped that image as a joke. A lot of people took it as true though. The 3546 is on property know and working. The 3532 has yet to arrive. These units have been slatted for the PNWR for several years now and have been redecalled for some time but remainded on the RCPE until now. I may have to do another video in a few years as their roster is going to change a bit. the 3006 for instance just left for the Utah Railway.

      @@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL That's interesting. The 2411 shows up on the Portland and Western roster page on TrainWeb's "Class 3 Rosters" website. Nice to know about 3546. I hope 3532 and/or 3546 show up on the PNWR 663/664 trains. I wonder why 3006 left for the Utah Railway? I hear the 1501, 1801, 1803, 1852, and 1854 are going to be retired.

    • @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL
      @SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@stuartadamsrailfanningvideos I noticed that to. I guess they just assumed. At this point it may be some time before they appear on the 66 as all the newest units are currently being used on the westside branch. Although they do have the PTC arrays they are not active and as such can not be used on the 66 which requires it. At least for use as a leader. The GP40s in general are slowly being phased out from the PNWR. As for the 3006 I cannot say for certain as to why it left now. Indeed all the 1st Generation units have been slated for retirement for some time now. This year that has become a lot closer but the date is still not set.
