We’re so torn on what to get. I’ve heard MIB mattresses don’t hold up very well. Love your channel. Best channel for mattress reviews. You’re like rtings of mattresses. My wife is a side sleeper and I’m a side/back sleeper. My wife is 20 weeks pregnant. Any recommendations? I’d love to see anticipated long term reliability in your ratings.
Oh you're too kind. Thank you very much. I absolutely love Rtings as well. Phenomenal reviews. Mattresses compressed in boxes don't necessarily hold up worse compared to non-compressed mattresses. I think it's more a case o lots of brands using less than amazing materials who also compress in a box. When a mattress is using lower density foams, lower quality foams, compressing and shipping from overseas, making thin mattresses (anything 10" or less can be problematic), or taking other shortcuts then absolutely...durability is going to suffer. Long term durability ratings is something I'm looking into now. There are certain machines that can simulate years of use. As of now, that's looking like the best option. However, the costs are pretty steep at around $2K to test each mattress + the cost of a mattress. I figure I would want to do at least 50 of the most popular brands to make it interesting and comparable. Suffice to say, it's a pretty big risk / commitment for a channel / site our size. As soon as we can take on that investment we'll be ready to pull the trigger on those tests.
Has there been a change to the scoring system recently? The mattresses are having their score changed on the website to something different to what is in the videos.
Yes, last week we began roll out our 1.2 scoring system update. This update makes it harder for mattresses to earn the highest scores and creates a clearer and more intuitive distinction between scores and colors. You can read all about the new 1.2 system here - naplab.com/how-we-test-mattresses/ And our mattress reviews page and comparison tool already have all of the scores updated. It's going to take us a while to finish updating all standalone reviews and best of pages, but they are in progress now. Let me know if you have any questions. Does the casper dream has fiberglass? I saw the list on your website but that contains some of casper's older models. Can you confirm this about casper dream?
Unfortunately, we haven't been able to confirm whether or not the Dream has fiberglass. My best guess would be that "yes, it has fiberglass". However, that's just based on the fact that 1) Casper doesn't say it doesn't have fiberglass (most companies that don't use fiberglass are really proud of that fact and will make it part of their product specs information) and 2) To date the only Casper models produced that haven't included fiberglass (where they confirmed it) are the Casper Snow & Snow Wave.
Full disclosure: I'm an unabashed BB fanboy. With that out of the way, this is why I'm looking forward to seeing how the "budget" Dreamfoam Essential compares to the Casper One, especially since the latest iteration of the BB Sig scored a 9.63 over the 9.45 of the comparable Casper Dream. Yes, yes, I know. "Sir, this is an Arby's." It's just that, even when you factor in the scale of 3Z's operation, BB is still clearly putting in a lot of effort to get the quality and price point to where they want it while also being fiberglass free, so I just think mattress companies should be held to a higher standard, especially since the Temperpedics of the world pay top dollar to be at the front of the store, only to pass down the costs to their customer base, while still having the nerve to use fiberglass considering the prices they charge.
Makes perfect sense. BB really does do a great job and has consistently been one of my favorite brands over the years. Owning their own factory has definitely given them a huge advantage and they have continued to really push the limits of performance per dollar. DreamFoam is on my list to test. Hard to say exactly when we'll be able to get to it, as our queue for the Summer is always packed full. But I'll do my best to get it in for testing as soon as we can.
