The Nolah Luxe Alaskan King is a specialty mattress only available in an Alaskan King size, which 44% larger than a standard King mattress. It has a thick quilted cover, a poly foam comfort layer, and a pocketed coil support layer.
This mattress has deep sinkage and a moderate level of bounce.
It is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.
In our performance tests, the Nolah Luxe had a fantastic overall score of 9.01, ranking in the top 20% of all mattresses tested to date.
The price is higher, $3250, but you’re also getting a lot more mattress (104W x 104L”). The average specialty mattress (in queen size) is $2597, costing $78/sf. If we take the same metric to calculate the square footage cost of the Nolah Luxe, we get a value of only $43/sf. By this metric, the Nolah is a much better value than other specialty mattresses.

So, for a couple with a combined weight of 330 to 340 together, which mattress is good?
All of the mattresses on this list would suit your combined weight perfectly well. My go to pick for you and your partner would be the Winkbed - naplab.com/go/winkbed-mattress
I"m wondering what the winkbed FIRM is out of 10?
7 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. Slightly firm feel.

Can you make a review on the Sealy FlexGrid its $1,569.00 for a queen and uses a gel grid like purple does but there are no reviews on it for some reason
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add that to our list of mattresses to test / review.
This seems like a great choice based on this video. I did see quite a few people on Reddit say after a few months it felt too plush for their liking. I really like the edge support on this though.
Indeed - overall performance is pretty solid, especially at this price point. Softness is always tough...as what's too soft for one person will be too firm for another. Based on the 290+ mattresses I've tested I found this to be a pretty typical medium-firm feel.
Super cute pup ❤
Thank you! 😄
Which mattress do you personally sleep on?
A memory foam mattress called Loom and Leaf - naplab.com/mattress-reviews/loom-leaf-review/ I've been using it as my personal mattress since 2017.
Hi! We are in the market for a latex hybrid mattress. How does this one compare to the Bear Natural? We tested the Bear in person and loved it but I like the option of the changeable comfort layer on the Nest. Thank you
The feel is similar, given that they are both natural latex hybrids with a transitional poly foam layer. However, the Owl is slightly higher performance due to its better pressure relief and better cooling. Hello, I like your video very much. We are a mattress company and hope to invite you to cooperate in shooting mattress videos. If you are interested, please contact me.
Is this the same as the new "Casper Cooling Select 12" " ?????
They are similar, but the Cooling Select is a new and different model.
@@NapLabReviews Is the Cooling Select better? Does it actually sleep cooler?
@@kendarcie6613 No, I don't think so (but that's just a guess as I haven't tested the all foam Cooling Select). The lark's webpage puts the mattress at a 8/10 on the firmness scale. Have they changed this mattress since you did this video review? I'm trying to find a natural mattress for my daughter who is 5 years old and 42lbs. She's sleeping on a Japanese futon right now and loves it, but I know she needs a new bed soon. Firmness is a must for her.
I don't believe they have changed the design. In my view, Nest Bedding's assessment of the firmness is simply wrong. If you want a firm feel I am afraid your daughter would simply find this far too soft. Take a look at the Plank Firm Natural - naplab.com/go/plank-firm-natural-mattress This sounds more like what you're looking for.

WHO is paying for RETURN SHIPPING Zinus mattress ? I CAN NOT GET AN ANSWER ANYWHERE
Based on my reading of their return policy, it seems that Zinus pays for someone to pickup the mattress. So there is no charge for the customer. It's only if you had them take your old mattress and/or box spring + you file for a return that they will then charge you $75. www.zinus.com/pages/support?a=What-is-Zinus%27-return-policy---id--AEKGv37rRn-p3YtNgU8D_g
I ordered this on Black Friday and it was a big mistake.. I'm skinny (5'8" 135 lbs) but this mattress was way too soft.. my butt sinks in immediately and I have back pain on Night 2. Since I'm bony, I need pressure relief, but this was too soft and squishy for me (even at my weight). Maybe I need a firm mattress with some pressure relief? I'm a back and side sleeper. Do you have any recommendations for someone with my body type?
That's interesting. It's quite rare for someone with a lighter weighted body to experience the Purple as too soft. Usually it's the other way around. In any case, it sounds to me like we need to get you something with a slightly firmer feel and less sinkage. Take a look at the following mattresses, I think they could all be a good fit for you: Birch - naplab.com/go/birch-mattress Bear Elite (firm version) - naplab.com/go/bear-elite-hybrid-mattress Winkbed (firm version - naplab.com/go/winkbed-mattress
Do you guys actually test the mattresses by having sex on them?
No, not any more at least (my wife and I did for the first 120 I tested). Our new sex testing methodology uses a more objective protocol. Our sex score is a simple equation where we look at 5 different factors. Each factor is given a specific weight based on how important we think that factor is for most people. We test for bounce, edge support, cooling, pressure relief, and noise. You can see our specific testing process here - naplab.com/how-we-test-mattresses/#h-sex

Thank you so much for doing Canadian mattresses!!! 🎉🎉🎉
My pleasure! I'm glad it was helpful 😄
What does "sinkage" mean? How can it be firm but also sink? Will that mean a hotter mattress because you are "sunk" into the foam?
Sinkage is a measure of how far the body compresses or "sinks" into the mattress. In general, mattresses with more sinkage are softer and mattresses with less sinkage are firmer. However, it's not an absolute rule. There are mattresses that allow for more sinkage, but then have a harder, firmer support layer of coils and/or foam. As a result, the body is able to sink down more easily through the top layers and hit a firmer set of layers. More sinkage doesn't necessarily mean a mattress is hotter, but in general, it is true that the more foams wrap around the body the warmer the feeling can be. Here, it really depends on the quality of the foams, design of the mattress, type of foams, and any cooling materials within the cover. That will dictate how cool / hot the mattress will be.
I bought this mattress... It's huge. The best way to describe it is like sleeping in a cloud. The mattress hugs you all night. The cooling is noticeable. I tend to sleep hot like Chernobyl. So far I'm very impressed.
Nice! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it so much!
@NapLabReviews Thanks. Solid review, spot on. 5*

Hahahah I have NEVER EVER heard of a "sex performance score!" Whoah! How novel!
Indeed! I'm glad you found it interesting. You might also be interested to know that based on our on-going sleeper priority survey (27,000+ responses), sex is the 5th biggest priority for sleepers and 27% of people say it is an important feature on the mattress.
Hope you're still active on comments section, is the weight listed on the table including couples or each individual. My wife and I are a total of 290 lb
Yep! I'm still here. The weight is for individual sleepers. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
@NapLabReviews awesome. Do you have any thoughts on the tempur pedic that costco sales. I've seen a ton of mixed reviews on it all over. Don't know what's reliable or not

I am a side sleeper/back sleeper. When it comes to pressure points relief, is Alpine significantly better as to justify the price difference in comparison to the original? :)
Is it better, yes, absolutely. Is it significantly better, no, I don't think so. Even so, for a difference of just $200 I think it's worth the extra cost given the performance increase, but depending on your finances it may not be worth it for you. You can see how the two compare here - naplab.com/tools/side-by-side-mattress-comparison-tool/?_mattress_name_dropdown=douglas%2Cdouglas-alpine
Even my $4000 Tempur-Pedic says it contains like 23% glass fiber , on the mandated tag
Yep...it is honestly just insane to me that Tempurpedic is as expensive as it is and yet they are still trying to save themselves a few bucks by using fiberglass.
@ crazy , although I assume it’s a lot less bad than the examples we see here . They know ppl who can afford a 4k mattress can afford to sue them
Great reviews, Thank you! What would be the difference between the 12in and the 14in?
Functionally? I would guess there is virtually no difference. The extra 2" of foam is going to be on the bottom of the mattress, so it's just a firm support foam. It's not likely to significant impact the comfort or performance compared to the 12" version.
@ Thank you so much!

Buy Casper Dawn - naplab.com/go/casper-dawn-mattress Questions? Ask away! I do my best to answer all questions within 24 hours.
Two more questions. How does the Leesa Legend (at $1050) compare to the Midnight Luxe (at $1650)? The Legend actually scores higher now than the new Luxe but figured I'd check with you before assuming anything. And not related to the Luxe, but should I be worried about the "zoning" on the Leesa Legend as I'm 5'6'' so not exactly tall (and I worry that the zones were made for average height which I'm below).
Leesa Legend and Helix Midnight Luxe are very similar in terms of performance. You can see a side by side comparison here - naplab.com/tools/side-by-side-mattress-comparison-tool/?_mattress_name_dropdown=helix-midnight-luxe%2Cleesa-legend As far as I am aware, the Leesa Legend at Costco is not the same Leesa Legend on Leesa.com. In addition, we tested the Leesa Legend from Leesa.com, not Costco. As a result, I don't expect our performance findings for the Leesa Legend would match the Leesa Legend from Costco.com. Regarding zoning - my feeling is that it shouldn't be a major issue, but admittedly it's hard to say. Over the years I've had sleepers of all body weights and all weights reach out to me with both complaints and love for zoning. Some love the zoning, some hate it. But in any case, there doesn't seem to be any clear pattern on which sleepers will love / hate it. It really seems to be more personal preference than anything. All that said, a majority of sleepers seem to be unbothered by it or like the zonal support.
Two questions. I recently ordered the Midnight Luxe but I decided to cancel it because I'm not a fan of companies changing the product without telling you. The large increase in off-gassing makes me think that the quality went down. Has the quality gone down compared to the previous version? You mentioned that the Leesa Legend has not changed over the years in your review of that bed. Do you know if the Costco version is the same? It's so much cheaper that it makes you wonder. I'm looking for a mattress where I can trust the reviews and awards...because it's the same mattress as was reviewed!
I wouldn't say the quality of the Helix Midnight Luxe declined, but the material layered design did change slightly, which did negatively impact performance slightly. The Midnight Luxe went from being a ranked #10 overall to being ranked #31 overall (out of 280+ mattresses). That still makes it an amazingly good mattress, but also one that lost some ground with this redesign. Regarding Leesa Legend - As far as I am aware, the Leesa Legend at Costco is not the same Leesa Legend on Leesa.com. In addition, we tested the Leesa Legend from Leesa.com, not Costco. As a result, I don't expect our performance findings for the Leesa Legend would match the Leesa Legend from Costco.com.
Can you review the Nest & Wild mattresses please? Made in Tupelo, MS and only have one all foam and one hybrid that can be had for around $1k for the king size. Would love to see how those stack up to this list.
Thanks for the suggestion. I can definitely add that one to our list to try and review in the future.
@NapLabReviews awesome thank you

What is the bed frame you are using in this video? I like it and I'm on the market for one.
It's the Floyd with the headboard - floydhome.com/products/the-bed-frame?variant=36971988156578 Great frame. We've of course got one in the studio for testing, but I also bought one 2 years ago for personal years. Really been impressed and happy with both. The one in the studio has proven to be extremely durable. I've been testing on it since 2021 and it gets moved around a ton, mattresses dropped on it, etc. and it's holding up really well. It's already taken way more damage than any normal use frame would have to take.
I got this bed 2 years ago and LOVED IT! Upgraded to a king size and ordered the dream model and was way firmer than the original hybrid 😭 Are there any more affordable beds that are similar to the original hybrid that you can recommend? (Been looking at Costco and BJs beds if there are any options there) thank you ahead of time!
Here are several options that will give you a feel / firmness softer than that of the Casper Dream. Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid - naplab.com/go/amerisleep-as3-hybrid-mattress Leesa Legend - naplab.com/go/leesa-legend-mattress Nolah Signature - naplab.com/go/nolah-signature-mattress

Was great for the 1st month. All of a sudden it got extremely hard on the 3rd month. So much we have to send it back.
Thanks for sharing your experience (though I'm sorry to hear it went so poorly).
Would you say this score holds up to the current scoring system? I’ve been watching a few videos and saw this was #1 on your website, but also saw the average score has dropped significantly over time. Would you still say this is the #1 mattress you’ve reviewed?
Yes, it is still the #1 scoring mattress we've tested. All scores on NapLab.com have been updated. You can see the complete ranked list here - naplab.com/mattress-reviews/
But will this Sealy sleep warminer that the Ghostbed Luxe? The Ghostbed had a better cooling score, but has way more foam. I find it hard to believe the luxe is going to sleep cooler. Most foams seem get hot unless you much around. The Sealy Carver has no sink depth so I think it would be cooler.
In general, you're right, mattresses with more foam sleep cooler than those with less foam. However, what you're not factoring in is: 1) quality of foams 2) phase change cooling materials in the cover Ghostbed's foam quality is massively better than Sealy's Carver. In addition, the cooling materials within Ghostbed's cover give it a noticeable cool-to-the-touch feel. Sealy Carver has no such cover. When combined with the foam quality issues and lack of airflow it becomes a warmer mattress compared to Ghostbed.
@@NapLabReviews Thank you. Also, I heard something that you are related, or were related to one of the mattress makers? What are your affiliations?

Thanks for the review. I was considering one of their mattresses, but wasn’t happy with their responses when I asked them if they use fibreglass. The offgassing definitely shows I’m not missing out.
My pleasure. I'm glad it was helpful. Out of curiosity, what was their response regarding fiberglass? The last time I emailed them they gave me a clear answer that "no" they don't use fiberglass (though they did previously).
Because there are removable pieces in these mattress, so you think this creates an issue with pieces moving around inside? Most mattress materials are stitched and glued right?
Yes, that's it exactly. Materials that aren't glued together (which is what almost all other mattress brands do) are simply going to move around more and not feel as well connected or cohesive.

I tried my first foam mattress. Sleep Science iflip. I love the support comfort, but if I sleep in the same position, I start to feel intense heat. Is this going to happen with all foam mattresses?
The short answer is no. However, all foam mattresses, especially those with more traditionally formulated memory foam, do retain heat and therefore sleep warmer. That said, many other types of all foam mattresses sleep notably cooler. Those with modern memory foam, poly foam, and latex, specifically. Also, foams of a higher quality breathe better and retain less heat. Lastly, more expensive mattresses are able to include more advanced cooling covers, which also help to increase cooling performance. Our list here - naplab.com/best-mattress/best-mattress-for-cooling/ - has a ton of high performance, cooler mattresses that you'll likely find better suited to your needs.
Sounds amazing
Why haven't you reviewed the costco iflip?
No particular reason, it's just a model we haven't been able to get to yet. I can definitely add it to our list though. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@NapLabReviews The iflip is a very popular costco mattress
Hey Derek, I have read that this year Saatva replaced the Talalay latex with Dunlop in their latex hybrid, making it firmer. Do you have thoughts/insights on if that is the case? I would guess it would make it too firm for side sleepers? That would be a bummer.
I hadn't heard that, but it does seem possible. I see that on an old version of the page it said it was Talalay, but the new version doesn't mention anything. That would seem to indicate that something about the latex changed. 2020 version - web.archive.org/web/20210604014030/www.saatva.com/mattresses/saatva-latex-hybrid While in general I do think the Talalaly is better for comfort layers, it doesn't mean that no side sleepers will like the mattress. Honestly, it's just impossible for me to say for sure without confirming what changed and then testing the mattress if there have been changing. I'll put this back into my testing queue and see if we can get a new test out. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Your website gives a lower overall score. I didn’t see any explanation of this on the website but there is a lot of information on there so maybe I missed it. Almost every category has a lower score on the website. Why are they different?
In April of 2024 we updated our scoring system from version 1.1 to 1.2. These changes impacted every score on site, with all scores going down, as it is more difficult to score the highest scores with our 1.2 system. This page has a complete breakdown of all of our changes - naplab.com/how-we-test-mattresses/explaining-our-2024-updates/ When we made these updates we were able to update all of our scores on NapLab.com to the new 1.2 scoring system. However, videos on our TH-cam channel published prior to the score updates we weren’t able to update, so those videos have the original 1.1 scores. You can always find the current and most up-to-date scores here - naplab.com/mattress-reviews/
Does this Supreme model have a zipper cover to remove and wash or is it completely one piece?
It has a zipper, but it's not washable. It is spot clean only.
Please make a video on the purple Rejuvenate Luxe mattresses.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll be sure that model gets added to our lists.

Hi! Im currently looking at the Original Dreamcloud Hybrid (the one you scored 8.75) for my 5 year old son- size Full. I think it would be a great option. Can I please ask for your thoughts because I'm seriously struggling. Are there any other options you recommend besides Dreamcloud for growing toddlers? Thanks so much!!
DreamCloud is a good option for growing kids, but there are numerous other good options as well. In my view, it makes the most sense to go with more budget-friendly / vaulted-oriented mattresses designed for adults. In general, I avoid "kid" mattresses, as they typically thinner and not made to the same durability standards as an adult mattress. An adult mattress will last through the toddler, kid, and teenage years without issue. To that end, I would recommend any of the mattresses on this list - naplab.com/best-mattress/best-affordable-mattress/
I just watched your other kid mattress reviews and I don't want a traditional "kids" mattress because I want it for longevity
@@penelopemedley Yep, I agree. Don't buy a kids mattress. Buy an adult mattress. One of the models listed here would work great for you. naplab.com/best-mattress/best-affordable-mattress/
