I think you would be well served to check out those reviewers of Eight Sleep who are over 50. No offense to Mr Hong, but the sleep situation of a young person is significantly different than a man at retirement age. Temperature regulation becomes far more important than how soft the mattress is. As a retiree myself I am finding that adequate REM and deep sleep are almost entirely dependent on temperature.

Thanks, was about to buy until I saw this. Other reviewers had even more to say about noise levels, especially on hotter days. You saved me 3000 bucks + a subscription 🙏
I think this company should hire you to help them create the perfect product. I was seriously thinking about investing in the Eight Sleep, but after hearing your review and reading your transparent and honest report, I've decided to hold off for now. You bring up a lot of important points that need to be considered. $40 a month? Seriously? Keep up the great work!
I wonder how much of your comfort issue is related to having a memory foam topper. Memory foam works via body heat softening the foam which is what allows for that slow melting conformance to your body. That might explain why you felt more comfortable with the temperature setting set to warm the bed. I'm tempted to give it a try, but it would be a deal breaker if it changed the pressure relieving qualities of my bed.
I kept thinking similarly: why not put one of the mattress toppers over the sleep 8. You can still feel comfortable, and the sleep 8 will remove excess body heat.
@@albundy3929 1, foam is an insulator but not perfect, heat and air do pass through it. 2, a topper is much thinner then a mattress, and compressed, you would still get thermal transfer.
Thanks for the review ! From europe here, it would cost the same or less to install a dedicated wifi programmable heat pump for the bedroom with the added bonus that it would actually help to cool or heat the room and house (to a certain extent) so the slightly higher consumption vs the pod would be more than justified especially considering that in place of paying 25 euro for a montly subscription , you can basically cover the electrity bill for that said heatpump . I was intrigued but I never understood the value at that price point , the cons of a plastic cover and the fact that having the heat excanger in the room means that you are in fact heating the room in summer and cooling it in the winter.
I love mine. Once it's set at -5 to sleep, -4 for REM (I think) and -6 to help wake with the silent alarm. I just sleep well. I would like a cheaper product as I don't need sleep tracking or auto pilot or any other fancy thing.
I was an early adopter of the Eight Sleep (2020). I purchased the Pod Pro (Mattress and zip on active grid) that ran me closed to $4200! Two years in, the original active grid started leaking. They were quick to replace it after asking for some pictures. Fast forward to July 2024, my current active grid started leaking I'm guessing the warranty is two years because after asking for a couple pics, they are sending the newer POD 3 active grid which apparently is a significant upgrade from my previous two. When this thing works (not leaking), its amazing IMO. Easy to say when you don't have to pay $500 for a new cover (if out of warranty). ;)
I have had the same experience as you. Originally bought in 2018-ish and have had the active grid spring a leak 3 different times. They have replace it. I don't care about all the "autopilot" and sleep tracking features. The super power of Eight Sleep is cooling the bed and the temperature management - that's it. It is amazing. The downside is sleeping anywhere else. I wish they would come out with a no-frills cover for $1,000.
That's a bit weird argument. How frequently have you not had WiFi? I can't really remember a single instance in my past 6 years where I had such issues with the Internet. And let's say for whatever reason there's a night without WiFi. One night without temperature regulation is not the end of the World. You can still sleep. I'm just saying here that a lot of arguments seem a bit weird since these things likely won't matter significantly at all. I also don't care about the subscription fee. To me if anything this incentives the company to keep developing the software. You just add it to your estimated cost and then determine what kind of value it would bring to you. This is just math. My main question is. Is it going to increase quality of your sleep and what kind of effects having this increased quality bring to your life? Then calculate if the expense is worth the value it brings. This is the only thing that matters. In your calculations you can just calculate the value add per 5 years and then 5 x 12 x sub fee + initial cost for simplified calc.
It is a very valid point that he made. I live in a rural area where my internet is over the air and frequently is disrupted during inclement weather. The only reason they make it dependent on internet is so they can make the subscription mandatory. It is anti consumer and for that reason I am striking this from my list as I search for ways to optimize my sleep.
I'll also be returning mine. I really wanted to like it too but didn't like it for the same reasons in this video. I found my sleep was good the first week of using it but the next week I noticed that it was getting worse than before I started using the product. I realized it was because I had stopped exercising. I ended up returning mine, I like the idea of cooling etc but it was uncomfortable and for the price I can just run the AC.
I've had the original 8sleep, and throughout the years for various reasons I've had to have the cover replaced. I currently have the pod 4 - which is the most comfortable out of the 4 different covers.
honest and smart love to see it brother. I am getting a new apartment and was gonna go all out on a mattress and 8 sleep. I wont be getting 8 sleep. Ty very much !
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you! I sincerely appreciate your honest, unsponsored review. I had a water bed in the 80’s , with a “dead man’s” mattress - there would be no waves. It had a heater that we would turn up in the winter, and lower in the summer. I slept phenomenally well in that bed, but the weight of all that wood and water made me nervous, so when we moved we sold it. Personally, I’d prefer a real water bed. Additionally, a real water bed has a pool liner that contains any water leaks. I suggest you try BedJet rather than the 8 Sleep. It is phenomenal and I’ve slept so well for the past 9 months that we’ve had it. I need to sleep cool because I’m going through menopause. The remote that comes with the BedJet has three memory buttons that I can feel while I’m half asleep, to change through three preset temperatures. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Great review. This is exactly the experience i had with 8sleep about 4 years ago when i tried it. I found the coils waaay too stiff, almost like digging into your back. Thx for the review!
I bought the eight sleep on it's first generation of a cooling pad, when they shipped it with a mattress. The mattress it came with was insanely soft, but the combination of the topper with the very soft mattress worked out to be a great firmness. Without that very soft mattress I think it would be far too firm. Unfortunatenly without the eight sleep cover the original mattress is almost impossible to use. It's so incredibly soft it's uncomfortable, and holds an insane amount of heat... which leads me into the next problem. Having used the generation 1, we experienced nothing but problems with a comically short warranty for such an expensive mattress. Our first leak happened within 6 months, and then the second leak happened 10 days after the warranty ended. The worst part about the leaks.. once you take the cover off the mattress it's useless. You're stuck without any bed to sleep on, so instead you have to drain the entire mattress topper to even sleep on your bed without being wet. 10 days after the end of the warranty they told us they don't even manufacture the same topper anymore, so even if they wanted to replace it they couldn't. Thankfully after a few complaining calls they sent us the second generation topper, which lasted for about a year.. and then leaked. We were able to somehow get another replacement, but after 2 years the entire eight sleep pod started to fail. The pump for one side no longer primed or moved water.. possibly from running with a leak multiple times? It's hard to say. Unfortunately support was not there. It's kind of upsetting to spend 3000 dollars for a setup that lasted 2 years before needing to be completely replaced with a new mattress.
I have to agree with your review. I too invested in an 8sleep a week ago!! I have to say I am very disappointed. I really wanted to like it too!!! I am in menopause and thought this was part of my solution... It is really a concept but I think the subscription, checking my bright phone to adjust and, for me THE SMELL of plastic is a go back for me. The customer service is very poor. I can't believe someone isn't there picking up the phone at this hefty price tag!! IM SOO BUMMED!!!
My husband purchased the newest model and we’ve had it for three weeks and I am sleeping worse than I have ever slept. I’m not sure why. I try and limit wifi and technology in the bedroom to help sleep so this is a change. I just can’t believe how my sleep has got progressively worse.
I can't tell but is this a Pod 3 or Pod 4? Separately, I have been using the Pod 3 for 2 years and it has worked very well for me. But I prefer firm mattresses, so I didn't have the same issue as you did.
The ability to control the Dock Pro manually is why we went with that product instead of 8 Sleep. Dock Pro is definitely not a perfect product either, though. But I’m liking it.
I finally got my Dock Pro today, so I’m breaking it in. I have a Teh Tai mattress which is basically chain mail with a light down padding so the Chilipad doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Fingers crossed it helps me with my hot sleep. A handful of factors led to me choosing the Dock Pro over the Pod: I bought a cover specifically for me (my P2 doesn’t have issues with sleeping hot yet and it made it a bit cheaper; maybe I can get my P2 their own further down the line on demand), offline functionality, and the fact that the sleep sensor & subscription is an add-on. I’m worried about the potential QC issues and subsequent customer service calls but it’s a risk I’m willing to take if I can make it through this summer.
I appreciate your review and your ability to articulate critical questions and answers. You asked many of the questions I have, and your answers seemed unbias and real. Thank you!
Thank you!! Everyone is saying how great the product is and no one refers to the comfort aspect like you did! I also like soft mattresses and if it’s firm is a big no no for me. Thanks again ❤
Thank you very much!! Great review! I was between 8 sleep and bedjet and ended up getting bedjet and I'm very happy with it. Your review helped a lot. Thank you !!
I have the pod 4 and same. I want to like it but I can’t. It can only cool so much before condensation becomes an issue. My sleep has become progressively worse since using it - even by their own measurements. Each day my sleep score gets lower. I’ll return mine and get a window AC instead.
Great review. Bed firmness is my # 1 concern on all beds. This honest YT review got me to search a bit more on 8Sleep and there are a few dozen reviews talking about how the top coils with water flowing through make the bed too firm for some people (some people being anyone who likes a soft mattress). So that just saved me $ 4000 and the issues of installation just to find out I would not need to throw it away. But for those peeps who do not mind a firm bed the 8Sleep sounds like an awesome idea = my wife wants it warmer in the room so I could have cranked up the cooling in this bed on my side.
Probably best to put foam topper on top of 8 sleep ( ? ). Us poor people just use a window a/c with masonry blocks as a box spring substitute to retain coolness
Great honest review. Delivery is atrocious. I had 2 wait almost 2 months. The latest version is an improvement based on what you are saying on comfort and the needing to use the phone to adjust things. I actually like it
Thank you for taking the time to do this review. I was worried about the comfort with the tubs running through the cover. The cooling seems nice but i dont want to sacrifice comfort.
Personally I love my eightsleep and haven’t had any issues. I’m guessing the pod you have is not the pod 4 since the pod 4 has the tap to adjust feature on the side which helps adjusting the temp without using your phone. When I bought this there was no subscription. That part really sucks.
Thanks for this review, hard to find unsponsored ones. Your experience mirrors mine, also tried the Pod3. The idea is great and i wish it would've workesmd for me, but i feel like the product just isn't mature enough yet
what about putting the foam topper ontop of the cooling - it wont work as well obviously - but it might have given you the softness you need with some of the cooling too?
Let’s say you get a very nice tempurpedic mattress which should be good for your back straight out of the box. Would you say the cover being over the mattress downgrade the feel of the bed or overall quality of the tempurpedic bed?
I think more needs to be said about how they have changed their warranty with membership... The Pod 3 came with a lifetime warranty with membership and the 4 only comes with a 5 year warranty. That alone makes this NOT worth upgrading
Thank you for the detailed review. Do you think a softer mattress can counter the firmness of this product? Or we just have to wait for a newer product with softer feeling?
Excellent review. I want to like this product but I know I would be endlessly fiddling with settings in the middle of the night. Maybe Siri enabled? My thermostat is Siri and it’s pretty awesome.
"I feel like I'm going a bit far with trying to like the product" ... I've had mine a few weeks and feel exactly the same way. Have been impressed with the hardware itself, but disappointed by the overall experience. While I do find it physically comfortable, the lack of basic customization re: time and temp control is perplexing. And yes, nothing says I care about sleep than having to use your phone in the middle of the night!?! Very likely I'll return it and revisit a later, more fully realized iteration The cooling function is quite lovely!
Thanks for this honest review. haha wow, its completely useless without wifi/the app. Is it just me or is the monthly subscription ridiculous? They're not really providing anything special, and without it you can't even use basic functions like scheduling the temperatures.
Is the "it not cooling without a subscription" still not true nowadays? Their website looks like the automated cooling and heating stuff is turned off but it does appear you can still set and run a temp. Anyone know?
Thanks for the review. I had a similar concern about it making my bed uncomfortable. I have a feeling that, due to commission, it's hard to trust most reviews on this product.
So glad I watched your review!! I've been wanting to make an investment to sleep cooler at night but had a feeling what you describe would happen to me. Thanks again!
the problem i have with this is, this is essentially like a portable aircon.....the compressor unit where the heat exchange takes place is inside ur bedroom and it vents the heat out inside ur bedroom.....whatever cooling benefit u get from the mattress if made worse or offset by the room air temperature being made hotter from the heat exhaust being vented out inside ur room...
How about an old-fashioned temp-controlled water bed - soft, can keep it cool, but not interactive. Granted weight and set up a problem. Also no cats with either.
Super valuable information, thank you! Such a huge investment, I will hold off. My problem started with the memory phone topper which is so hot. Will try going back without it or switching to latex topper
Was the 8sleep able to keep a stable temperature all night? The old sleep me product I have isn’t powerful enough to hold the temperature I set it at. I can set it at 54 but after about an hour it goes to 72 and won’t go any lower.

I just ordered a bedjet. $400 and 60 day free return policy. Fingers crossed I’ll love it. I too am in meno & miserable while sleeping
I’m curious how it works out! I’ve considered bed jet too…
FINALLY - an unbiased, honest and thorough review - THANK YOU!!
My husband purchased the newest model and we’ve had it for three weeks and I am sleeping worse than I have ever slept. I’m not sure why. I try and limit wifi and technology in the bedroom to help sleep so this is a change. I just can’t believe how my sleep has got progressively worse.
you answered everything I wanted to know that nothing else did. thank you
Thank you for the honest unbiased review. Please keep the value/ content coming about products you have tested. 🙏🔥💯👍
Super helpful - thanks for taking the time to capture your thinking and insights, and thanks for putting in the work for an unsponsored review.
I appreciate your review and your ability to articulate critical questions and answers. You asked many of the questions I have, and your answers seemed unbias and real. Thank you!
Glad you liked the video!
Thank you for an honest review. This saved me lot of money.
Working on my review of the BedJet right now!
I love what this product offers but I'm just not paying a subscription for my bed.
You wouldn't be out the money though, as long as you return it on time you get a refund.....
Thank you for your unbiased review sir. Just subscribed. What cooling mattress would you recommend?
Probably best to put foam topper on top of 8 sleep ( ? ). Us poor people just use a window a/c with masonry blocks as a box spring substitute to retain coolness
I did that in the video, didn’t work
Great honest review. Delivery is atrocious. I had 2 wait almost 2 months. The latest version is an improvement based on what you are saying on comfort and the needing to use the phone to adjust things. I actually like it
Great review! What baseboard is that by the way?
Here's an affiliate link to it on Amazon: amzn.to/44VdH9x
Thank you for taking the time to do this review. I was worried about the comfort with the tubs running through the cover. The cooling seems nice but i dont want to sacrifice comfort.
thank you for this, helped me make informed decision
Great review, thanks for the honest feedback.
Personally I love my eightsleep and haven’t had any issues. I’m guessing the pod you have is not the pod 4 since the pod 4 has the tap to adjust feature on the side which helps adjusting the temp without using your phone. When I bought this there was no subscription. That part really sucks.
Thank you! This review was super helpful
Thanks for the most honest review
Excellent review. Thank you.
I did give that a try for a night, it pretty much totally got rid of the cooling effect and still was pretty firm underneath
Thanks for this. I was tempted.
Try the pod 4, its meant to maintian your mattress comfort much better than the 3.
Thank you for this sir.
Thank you very much for your review!
Excellent review and very helpful.
an honest review, thank you! I might get it actually haha
Let’s say you get a very nice tempurpedic mattress which should be good for your back straight out of the box. Would you say the cover being over the mattress downgrade the feel of the bed or overall quality of the tempurpedic bed?
Yes
Very helpful! Not alot of unsponsored reviews out there.
I think more needs to be said about how they have changed their warranty with membership... The Pod 3 came with a lifetime warranty with membership and the 4 only comes with a 5 year warranty. That alone makes this NOT worth upgrading
This is helpful. Thank you
Thank you for the detailed review.
Do you think a softer mattress can counter the firmness of this product? Or we just have to wait for a newer product with softer feeling?
If you had a very soft mattress it could counter it, but it will change the feel a lot.
@@DylanHongTech thank you for explaining, I don't think it is worth the investment (soft mattress and device) for a 50/50 attempt.
They have a whole mattress now, might be softer.
Excellent, objective review!
Excellent review. I want to like this product but I know I would be endlessly fiddling with settings in the middle of the night. Maybe Siri enabled? My thermostat is Siri and it’s pretty awesome.
Thanks for your overview)
That was helpful ❤😊
Are there any better alternatives to this? Don’t want to pay a subscription fee
Thanks for the honest review! Hate sponsored reviews. Can you try the sleep number 360 comfort?
A whole mattress system would be tough. I’m working on a BedJet video though
the only fair review on youtube
Thank you for your review!
Thanks for this honest review. haha wow, its completely useless without wifi/the app. Is it just me or is the monthly subscription ridiculous? They're not really providing anything special, and without it you can't even use basic functions like scheduling the temperatures.
I get why they make you use hydrogen peroxide (you don’t want algae in your bed)
But if it leaks while you’re asleep you’ll end up with burns
Is the "it not cooling without a subscription" still not true nowadays? Their website looks like the automated cooling and heating stuff is turned off but it does appear you can still set and run a temp. Anyone know?
Thanks for the review. I had a similar concern about it making my bed uncomfortable. I have a feeling that, due to commission, it's hard to trust most reviews on this product.
So glad I watched your review!! I've been wanting to make an investment to sleep cooler at night but had a feeling what you describe would happen to me. Thanks again!
Can you do a review on the Pod 4 version
the problem i have with this is, this is essentially like a portable aircon.....the compressor unit where the heat exchange takes place is inside ur bedroom and it vents the heat out inside ur bedroom.....whatever cooling benefit u get from the mattress if made worse or offset by the room air temperature being made hotter from the heat exhaust being vented out inside ur room...
Love your video. Is there a good alternative?
Not that I have tested
Appreciate your honesty
Very good, honest review. Thanks for sharing.
Was this the pod3 or pod4 version?
Great review. Was interested in getting one for my son but now I'll spend my money elsewhere.
Really like your headboard. Can you please share where it’s from?
Here's an affiliate link to it on Amazon: amzn.to/44VdH9x
thank you for your honest review.
Youre like the only one being honest most reviewers just making sponsored money
Thanks for honest review.
If you don’t have to adjust the settings on your phone they couldn’t charge you a subscription “service” fee.
Was the 8sleep able to keep a stable temperature all night? The old sleep me product I have isn’t powerful enough to hold the temperature I set it at. I can set it at 54 but after about an hour it goes to 72 and won’t go any lower.
Yes it was quite powerful
Hey Dylan, great review, can you also review the Bedjet 3?
Thanks!
I’m working on it :)
@DylanHongTech I picked it up on sale, but I haven't tried it yet. So far seems like like the main weakness is bedding options, they need more.
