    I own the Fujifilm X-H2s. I've been a pro photographer my whole life, 66 years. I would not trade this camera for any other camera in the world. I had a Fujifilm XT4 and Canon R7, and sold them both, after testing the 3 in open shade, sun light, and low light. Fujifilm X-H2s was the best of all in all situations. I like it so much; I bought a second one.

    Fascinating review. I have to say I tried an X-H2 from and X-T4 and just could not get on with it. As a hybrid shooter I thought this would be a better experience (the user experience should be the same as the X-H2S). When the X-T5 came out I traded my X-H2 in for one. Personally in terms of usability I found the user experience way better than the X-H2. I have 7 custom settings each for movie and stills. They are easily selectable (and further more names) and I select then by assigning the left hand button to the custom settings. Personally I find this much more easy and flexible than the PASM dial. With the Movie / Still selector underneath the shutter speed dial, I can switch between modes way more easily than on the PASM dial and without looking at anything.
    I guess that is just personal preference. So don't think I will be changing for an X-H2S. Will pocket the difference to go places :)
    The interesting camera will actually be the X-S20 which has a combo of the higher speed processor and the standard 26MP sensor. But suspect they will also have to cripple it in other ways - it will be interesting to see what they do with custom settings.
    Keep up the good work - I have learnt sooo much from your videos :)

    FWIW...I don't remember where I saw this suggestion, but my work-around for not having an ISO dial and not wanting to fumble around for that ISO button was to assign the D-pad Up button to ISO. Then all I have to do is press it once to activate, then use it and the Down button to adjust. Likewise, I set the D-Pad Down button to Focus Mode, using it in a similar way to cycle through the 3 options (and allowing me to reprogram that front button to Face/Eye Detect On/Off). This works for me, but obviously such things depend on personal preferences.

    Hi - Thanks for another excellent video.
    I'm a "stills" photographer that prefers to be in the great outdoors (yes - even in winter), not tucked up behind a computer screen. Consequently I'm very beholden to the great JPGs offered out of the box by the Fujifilm film simulations. (the latest iterations certainly appear more mellow with better DR but Classic Negative seems now to have a green imbalance?)
    As you say, the X-H2s has the excellent 1 touch custom control settings which can be easily configured to allow for quick adjustment of "Sims" etc. Also in my case, choosing the X-H2 with 40mega pixels allows for a greater flexibility to crop, when I inevitably make errors in framing. (No real excuse for this, but I do tend to carry a couple of "primes", and am sometimes caught short!)
    In all other respects I agree with your comments regarding the X-H2s (X-H2), form factor and performance. Already the latest firmware updates have improved the already good autofocus, and removed some other glitches.
    I'm still having some difficulty loving this camera over my old X-Pro2, it is a definite improvement over the current X-T models, "flippy" screen not withstanding!😮 John G.

    How does it handle the micro jerks in the ibis that the X-T4 has? I shoot a lot of handheld video for weddings and action shoots with the X-T4 and it’s frankly the one downside that has made me look at the Panasonic line. I wasn’t sure if it was improved here at all. Thanks!

    Great Video. You can assign the ISO directly to the up/down Dpad without the need to press the top iso first, once you get used to it it’s super quick and easy, I found It’s actually quicker then changing ISO on my XT4 Top iso dial.

    I shoot Nikon full frame mirrorless for much of my photography (stills only). I purchased the XT-5 after being disappointed with Nikon's anemic aps-s mirrorless system. I love using my XT-5 for travel and everyday use. I rented the X-H2s from my local camera store to photograph a dance performance in a theater this weekend. I found the X-H2s to be easy to customize by assigning the function buttons. If the X-H2s isn't significantly better with high iso image quality than my XT-5, I will opt for the X-H2 in the future.

    @bpalotas ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video. I was really curious to hear your take on the X-H2s's usability, because I attempted to switch to that from an X-T4, but I returned it within two weeks due to not being able to use the custom modes effectively.
    Custom settings between different modes (the combined PASM stills modes, video mode, and C1 through C7 - so between these 9 modes in total) didn't make sense to me. White balance annoyed me the most, I would have expected the white balance setting to be preserved when switching modes. Instead, I either forgot to set it to the current environment after switching modes, or it got reset after the camera turned off. Turning auto-saving of changes in custom modes off or on didn't change this. How did you get around this? Do you always use auto white balance in all modes? Myself, I gave up on using the C1-C7 modes. :/
    You touched on it briefly that the custom button assignment doesn't change when switching between stills and video modes. I would have really appreciated if the C1-C7 modes would have allowed custom button assignment too. In general, what was missing for me was being able to decide what features the C1-C7 modes set and which ones they would leave as they are.

    • @snapsbyfox
      @snapsbyfox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah there are some small inconsistencies with white balance as you mentioned but I think they will be ironed out with firmware. However overall I found that to be the only sticking point when switching modes. As well as the buttons not moving over. It is definitely not for everyone and I didn't really understand this system fully till at least a month in.

      How'd you give up after 2 weeks? I hope you found something that works for ya!

    • @bpalotas
      @bpalotas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@isaiaharmstrong1799 I needed to make a decision within two weeks, otherwise I wouldn't have had the right to return the camera for a full refund. Ideally I would've spent more time with it. However, this was enough for me to see that (with the current firmware) there is no way I'd be able to use the custom modes without frustration. I understand how it works, I just don't like it. You've probably heard this repeated from many photographers, but the best camera is the one you enjoy using, and the X-H2(s) wasn't it for me, hence I got rid of it.

  • @Eikenhorst
    @Eikenhorst 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    7:53 That is insane. I personally don't believe in the 'exposure triangle' as really only shutter speed and aperture affect the amount of light captured, I generally leave ISO to auto and use the exposure compensation if my scene happens to require an overall under or over exposed image. With this I can't? :O

    I agree with everything bar the auto focus. Although better than previous it is still way behind canon Sony and even Panasonic is far stickier now. Fuji has had plenty of time to fix this but it’s just far to slow and hunts around too easily in comparison. It’s the main reason I’m looking at other companies products now and seriously thinking of going to S5ii. Go steal Canon or Sonys algorithms Fuji engineers but we have waited long enough - sort this out. A wonderful stacked sensor with a average auto-focus - what a plan.

    Honestly there is no right or wrong between dslr layout and fuji's slr dials layout, its just down to personal perfernece, if you use slr more, you prefer xt, if you use modern canon/nikon/sony system, you like xh layout, they give you different experience. For dslr layout, you can switch modes easily. But, for fuji dials layout, you will be directly controlling your three key adjustments, aputure, shutter speed, iso, and exposure comp, so you will better understand and have control of your settings, as you can easily combine different modes by swiching "a" on and off, where as for dslr layout you just have to remeber those stupid modes and their letters. So, becasue the setting is like a traditional slr, you take more time to get a shot, and you will try to make it right, wait for the perfect moment, and you will understand how shutter, iso, aputure relates to your shot and their visual effects to your expression. So, for xt's slr layout, you shoot slower, (I can still be really quick as i do full manual all the time), you get to experience how photography really works, and you feel like your actually doing a composition. Ironically, you can even set everything right follow "suning 16 rules" before you turn on xt and just start shooting and get good results without looking evf or viefinder, becasue all settings are adjustable directly from dials and rings, just like a SLR film camera (that's why fuji gets so popular in film community). For xh2s's dslr layout, you can shoot effeciently, but then you are using more like a tool then a part of you, and you are trying to get fast results rather than taking time to get a perfect shot. So there is not right and wrong, and as a cinematographer who uses RED Komodo and Panasonic S1H, I would sell my S1H to xh2s simply for the sensor's video texture and fuji's overall experience, but I still prefer xt line's slr layout as I want to enjoy photographer rather than getting some fast results and get paid for that

      The ISO was never D pad only. At launch you press the ISO button and could spin any dial to your heart's content. With the latest firmware you can assign a dial to control the ISO like any other camera.

    Fuji has lost its way. The film and camera division is losing money and with Panasonic, Sigma and Leica adpoting the L mount its left Fuji down a blind alley. Fuji cameras and lenses are overpriced and are not supported by the professional photographers community. Why settle for an APSC sensor when you can have full frame and a swag of affordable lenses from Panasonic, Nikon and Canon for less money.

      I’ll tell you why. Cause it’s awesome and light. Much as I love Canon and invested in their glass I cannot justify carrying my fullframe bag when there’s no immediate need for it. And did you say pricey lens right after mentioning the L-mount? :) And yes, why do folks believe so much in full frame - them noisy iso days are gone.

      I left Canon after using their cameras & lenses for nearly 40years. Rf glass is exceptional, but became cost prohibitive for me. I invested heavily in Fuji lenses which offer good build quality & yield fantastic images. The Viltrox 27mm f1.2 & 75mm f1.2 lenses also offer image quality that rivalved my Canon EF “L” lenses. Depth of field with these lenses allow for wonderful bokeh as well. 😊
