I was out sea fishing from a boat this past summer with some friends. No bites, nothing happening , the sea flatter than a mill pond and the sun just setting. General banter and good humour all day. I put this on, and long after it finished there was utter silence. We just looked at each other, gave a nod and came back in. Quietly, slowly and all knowing a moment had just happened.

Dereck Trucks is a child prodigy - been playing since 12 years old - his uncle was the drummer for the Allman Brothers Band. Susan Tedeschi is from Massachusetts and attended the Berklee School of Music - our best music school.

I can't believe the grasp you have on their background ("Allman Brothers had two drummers" and "sounds like Ravi Shankar) without knowing them.
    2 things:
    1. They released a psychedelic album in 2021. It's brilliant, has flown under the radar because it's so original and obscure. The whole thing was sprouted from the idea of"what was Layla's perspective of the love triangle?" It's called "I am the moon"
    2. Allman Brothers run with Warren Haynes/Dickie Betts and Derek Trucks produced some really great music too.

    • @TheThamesmen

I’m going to listen to that psych album

    • @ZChoate
      @ZChoate ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@TheThamesmen it's a four part concept album that was released in chunks, also there is visuals to go with each track.
Also, Susan Tedeschi was born the day Layla was released in 1970.

This band is an amazing collective of musicians. This band is one I must see live. Trucks studied Indian music and this is a bit like a raga, so smooth. Susan graduated from one of America's great colleges of music....Berklee College (Massachusetts). Having the tools all you need is soul. Dang, does this band have soul.

Hi Alex and George, I saw the name of the band in the video description, and I just knew we were in for something special.
You haven't left much for us to comment on, so complete and accurate were your comments that I don't have much to add; except maybe, that if you ever get an invite to their show again you will do yourself an absolute disservice if you are too busy to go.
This performance was too good for a fill in video in-between curated weeks. I will put my voice forward in saying a Tedeschi Trucks Band Week would be spectacular.
Thanks, guys, for another thoroughly entertaining video. Just what I would expect from an award-winning TH-cam channel.

One of the best things about a TTB show, beyond how wildly talented all they all are, is how generous they are with sharing the time. Every single player on the stage gets their moment to shine, the drummers have their duet, keyboards, now with Gabe Dixon last time I saw them, and all the horns get their own solos. Just a brilliant time, and a warm family vibe altogether, and not in a schmaltzy way.

Excellent reaction! You guys are the first I've seen to notice important reasons why this is the greatest band in the world. First of all you noticed the REST of the band. They are all incredible. 2 drummers that don't copy each other - unprecedented. Amazing horns. You also noticed how they give room to someone else room when it's critical. You noticed their tweed amps and incredible tone. On top of this great band, Susan is the beast female vocalist in the world today and Dereck is the best guitarist. Find a way to see them live!

This is a great live performance. I could listen to Derek's slide playing all day.
The two drummer setup is reminiscent of The Allman Brothers which Derek was a member of, and Derek's Uncle was Butch Trucks, a drummer and one of the founding members of the Allmans.
Derek got his first guitar at age 9 and played his first paid performance at 11. There is a great video of him at age 13 playing Layla live and then jamming with another guitarist on stage.

Derek’s technique is picking with his fingers. He uses all five fingers to do so. His thumb is used to dampen the strings he doesn’t want to be heard. That’s a slide players way to play properly if you don’t want those overtones creeping into your solo. Derek is the best out there and their band is too. They are the game right now.

@@TheThamesmen Kinda funny when Derek was asked how he developed his finger picking style. He couldn’t give an answer that would give a person the technique to practice on. He just developed it more by necessity than a certain technique. He just chuckled when asked.

From the DVD of that 2010 Crossroads Festival there are a couple or three performances based around that version of the band. "Space Captain" is the best. It's a cover of a Mad Dogs and Englishmen song. Chris Stainton from the original recording by Mad Dogs/Englishmen plays on it, along with David Hildago and Cesar Rojas of Los Lobos. They just tear the shit out of that song. Also great is a version of Delaney and Bonnie's "I'm Coming Home" with Warren Haynes on vocals. The band also does a great version of Hayne's "Soulshine" that the Allman Brothers made famous in the '90's. A couple of things to note: Warren and Derek played together in the last version of the Allman Brothers Band for about 15 years; and the band in these videos is sort of a 'prototype' version of Tedeschi Trucks Band. They didn't officially become the Tedeschi Trucks Band until later that year, with a few different members than those that played the 2010 Crossroads festival.

Little background, Otiel Burbage, playing bass, was on Allman Brothers with Derek, he wanted to play in a band with his brother Kofi, you need to listen to Bound For Glory live in Atlanta, Oteil plays the bass that Barry Oakley played and Derek plays Duane's Layla guitar, awesomeness

I neglected to mention something, the SG that Derek plays was a gift from Galadrial Allman, Duane's daughter

Otiel really shines on this one! Always serving the song, but also doing some beautiful melodic runs!

I am not sure if they did Angel from Montgomery on this but I believe they do. I personnoly prefer the Solo on the etown recording. You should check it out.

Tedeschi Trucks is OP. All their musicians are absolutely top notch in the own right. Together, they're even better. Please nerf.

Have not seen a live track that was not great. They are not afraid to allow members of the band to play for the crowd.
