My Dad used to play this to me all the time when I was a kid. He was so talented. I cry every time hear it. This version is beautiful. Love you Dad. Miss you, man.
My Dad was born in '26. Me 40yrs later in '66. My brother and I were the luckiest kids Ever!!! Our Dad had a Ridiculously Gorgeous Professional Singing Voice. And he sang to both of us from the moment we were born! His Office was our front room. When he wasn't singing, he was playing, Jazz, Big Band, and Classical music on his radio. "Little Martha" wasn't a song my Dear Dad, sang to me, but by the age if 14 (in the mid 80's mind you) It was the one SOOTHING SONG, i would play on repeat, to blissfully fall.... asleep. Ahhhhh.😊 By my late 20's however, "You're My World" Joe Satriani has been my sweet sleep release 😴
Me too. My wife, who is a whole human being in her own right, and I used it in our wedding ceremony as the wedding party came up the aisle, so it's now even more special to us 27 years later.
Question from a Norma concert goer: how do the security guys always stand there when magic like this is going on and act like they can’t even hear the music? I’d be grooving hard lol some things you just can’t ignore, but security guys will be standing there like they’re in line at the dmv or something. How do you do it?
My deceased husband, 18yrs. older than myself and hippie muscician, played this song endlessly and I never got tired of hearing it! I still have the Eat a Peach double album. It is one of my most prized possession's! So many beautiful memories.Music played such a roll in our marriage it is very difficult to put into word's.It is how we said I'm sorry, I love you, but especially when it was something so difficult we could say" babe, I've had such and such on my mind, and can't quite find the word's , would you listen to this?" Many times we danced and made love and quite forgot what the difference of opinion, celebration, all of it just melted.I lost him in 2015.Truly my better half that nobody so far can make me turn my head.I'm
Sounds like a very beautiful companionship. I am in a young relationship right now of three years at the age of 25 and music is also a huge factor in how we express our feelings towards one another. Sometimes we just sit in the car and connect just by listening to our favorite songs. I am sorry for your loss.
Here's the original version with Berry Oakley playing alongside Duane and Dickey. I have no idea why he was erased from this -- he adds so much. th-cam.com/video/He0gUs8AeBs/w-d-xo.html
It brings tears to my eyes to read your post. I so understand. Dates are just different. Thank the Lord for this music. "Church music" it has brought so many smiles, tears, life lessons, understandings, forgiveness, and most of all an inner peace and a home that I know I wouldn't have if I didnt live by this music. Thank you ABB,Warren and the mule, Derek and TDB, and all of the musical spirit guides that have shown me a way to make it thru this place and if I got lost which I have a place to come back to that is home no matter where I physically am. I can't praise enough. I so wish we never lost our love ones. I am still struggling to even try to find somebody to turn my head. Depression is a rough way to go. It's a hole that is never filled it don't seam. Know you are loved by people that don't know you, but I can tell if we met we have already met somewhere else.
As Americans we have all taken quite a bit of stick lately, maybe some of it deserved, but nobody else makes music like this. Something to be proud of.
Duane and Derek both sought and seek out the music that they enjoy with their respective immense talents. That being said if you close your eyes when listening to his playin Derek and Dominies tunes with Clapton and in ABB on many days and its sounds like Brother Duane did.
No pun taken Milton and I don't believe it ever was a Duane vs Derek 🎸🎸thang. Derek was always high admiration for Skydog. And this rendition with Derek and Amazing Dobro of Jerry Douglas is just so beautiful. Eat A Peach For Peace Y'all ✌🤠
I brought this CD in to the operating room when I had my daughter, and she was born to Little Martha by planned c section. Still my #1 band! She is 24 and knows great music.
I was 13 when I first heard „Little Martha“. Duane had just died, but I already knew the legend. This performance made me cry. In part it is sadness, but mostly they are tears of joy that people still play such soul lifting music. Go TTB!
Same here, I had just turned 14 myself. Fact is "Little Martha" has always, and forever will be, my favorite song from The Allman Brothers. It reaches inside me like no other song I know.
We just got back from this show at the ryman ..we hopped on a plane from Canada ..we almost missed the plane due to a snow storm ..made it to airport 30min before plane took off ...went to the Fri show. 4 rows back ..we were so blown away we got Tix for the Saturday show ..met a bunch of super cool peeps at the shows ..we love Nashville and all the ttb fans ..it is our 10 the year anniversary of marriage so we said fuck it we are going to see ttb at the Ryman ..love from Canada
Saw Jerry for the first time ( with John Hiatt) this past October , going to see Tedeschi Trucks for the sixth time next week. Sure would loved to have seen these guys together , both out of this world good
Derek is Duane to the second generation. Almost as great as Sky Dog was, God rest his soul! Jerry is the Holy Spirit to Clapton's God. Can do things on a dobro other musicians can only dream of!!! What a GREAT performance!!! Thanks for posting.
Damn that was so sweet. I remember learning that back in the 70s. I had a 68 goldtop Les Paul. The Allman Brothers seemed to have taken over part of my life. The members of the ABB + Warren Haynes & Derek Trucks are an addictive force.
Every time I read or hear comments like "Derek is Duane reincarnated" I have to disagree.. Derek is in a league of his own just as much as Duane was. His electric guitar work is untouchable. Phrasing and tone.. everything. I know musicians of all kinds of walks of life and genres say he is one of the best if not the best around today. For instance, Jakko Jakszyk, the current singer and guitarist of King Crimson publicly said so in recent interviews
Two master right there. They were both eyeballing each other hard. You can see Jerry cock his head when Derek played something filthy and Jerry is so good he plays it back at him. You don't get better than those two.
Leonardo Mirenda Jakob Jakszyk is not someone most would who most of us would look to for guitar mastery. Derek is really good, but he is not a master.
Going to see Jerry with John Hiatt in November. AND if you get the chance go see the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Best touring band in the business. I've seen them 5 times in the past 4 years and each show was awesome.
A rumour/ tale that was told to me fifty years ago was that the tune was telling the story of the band members returning home after a long tour... The adults cleaning house, putting out flowers and food, busily prepping for the return of their loved ones, and the kids getting in the act, in the way, anticipating... A young daughter waiting anxiously for Daddy... And at the end, the harmonics, connotating the surprise doorbell... Simply sublimely perfect.
I was finally able to see Tedeschi Trucks Band live for the first time in January. I loved it so much I bought a ticket to go the weekend after. Genius guitar player, amazing singer, and one hell of a band.
Derek is a true guitar GOD & so is Duane & Derek just continued to keep Duane’s music alive No one will never ever be able to play exactly like Duane except Duane Case Closed
Wow, that's just amazing. Besides Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones I have never been to a better performance than The Tedeschi Trucks Band. So much soul and so much talent. Blessed to be able to experience such musicians and Jerry Douglas!! Great post. Thank-you.
...so good to hear two of our favorite players like this. TTB will be bringing the Wheels of Soul here to Jerry's neck-of-the-woods this Summer. I know we will be there. we've seen the band on four separate tours and are so happy we won't have to drive far at all this go round. We've been blessed to have heard our "Hometown Boy Made Good" with AKUS, the Earls of Leicester and the What If band. Thanks for the post. After the collapse of the steel mills and the big General Motors plant people in the Mahoning Valley can sure use what those Wheels of Soul are bound to deliver come July 8th! Take good care all.
Wow!! Thank you for lifting my heart up this evening. Hard to mention finer slide playing or a more gorgeous piece and performance. Thank you for what y'all do for all of us. It's like heaven on earth, crucial for survival.
That is absolutely... wait...!!! No doubt!! Beautiful Musicianship!!! So humbly played!!!! ... only how it should be... SO!!! Appreciate all the talent that... simply carry's on!!! Blends on!!! ☮❤🍑🙃

me too
Me too. My wife, who is a whole human being in her own right, and I used it in our wedding ceremony as the wedding party came up the aisle, so it's now even more special to us 27 years later.
I was back stage security for this show. You will not meet nicer gentlemen. Great artists!!

Feels like my soul just got spring-cleaned. Just gorgeous.
As Americans we have all taken quite a bit of stick lately, maybe some of it deserved, but nobody else makes music like this. Something to be proud of.
I'm German and I fully agree. Here we have a reason why the US will be able to survive the current mess. This is food for the soul.
ARTSY AMERICANA!!!
American music influenced today’s music so much. From jazz to hip hop and the blues to rock.
Most def.
i love the Jerry Douglas smile at the end....
Yep. Both smiling at each other, like, Oh Yeah . . .
It’s not about Duane vs Derek, it’s about Derek finding his own voice. And what a voice it is, thank you brother. No pun intended!
Right on mate, people think in competitive terms way too much
Duane and Derek both sought and seek out the music that they enjoy with their respective immense talents. That being said if you close your eyes when listening to his playin Derek and Dominies tunes with Clapton and in ABB on many days and its sounds like Brother Duane did.
You brought it up...
No pun taken Milton and I don't believe it ever was a Duane vs Derek 🎸🎸thang.
Derek was always high admiration for Skydog.

I know to me ain't even close duane allman was leagues ahead. Come on now. It's dt who trys to cover all duanes shit
I am from ga and met this dude when he was 13 in a littleol ditty bar in macon ga and he ripped this.KILLER, long live the ABB
Proof “The Road” does indeed “Go On Forever” Thank you to these two gifted musicians for reminding me.
I brought this CD in to the operating room when I had my daughter, and she was born to Little Martha by planned c section. Still my #1 band! She is 24 and knows great music.
I see Trucks. I see Douglas. I see heaven. Peace and stay safe!!!
Great Music played by Great Players! Wow! Can’t get better than this! Doyle Dykes🤠🎸
Like stories shared between women quilting together.. Brings me to tears. Too much
I was 13 when I first heard „Little Martha“. Duane had just died, but I already knew the legend. This performance made me cry. In part it is sadness, but mostly they are tears of joy that people still play such soul lifting music. Go TTB!

Don’t cry because it ended, smile because it happened. - Dr. Seuss.
Amen brother!
Each a master in his own right, playing together, not trying to "duel" on a phenomenal song.

awesome...I plan on making the pilgrimage to see Jason Isbell there
Friday night was insane!! We were on the balcony
Do people still say peeps???? You're old!
Doug Davis lol that’s right u young whipper snapper
We were there Thursday night.
Awesome show. We were on our feet alot
No one makes a guitar cry like Jerry Douglas
Lovely. Their collaboration on "Little Martha" is beautiful.
Saw Jerry for the first time ( with John Hiatt) this past October , going to see Tedeschi Trucks for the sixth time next week. Sure would loved to have seen these guys together , both out of this world good
OMG So beautiful. If this doesn't move you, then you are a soulless Philistine.
We, the soulless Philistines, also like this.
That was like a musical airplane ride taking us from one corner of the planet to the other.
Brilliant!
Two of the most talented slide players alive today!!!!!
A Great Duet that's seemingly simple; but, illustrates a complexity of sound...
Derek is Duane to the second generation. Almost as great as Sky Dog was, God rest his soul! Jerry is the Holy Spirit to Clapton's God. Can do things on a dobro other musicians can only dream of!!! What a GREAT performance!!! Thanks for posting.

Leonardo Mirenda Derek passes Duane when he was 16

Leonardo Mirenda Jakob Jakszyk is not someone most would who most of us would look to for guitar mastery. Derek is really good, but he is not a master.
Hate when people compare. Duane and Derek are both awesome and unique
?? That would be awesome
Perfection...pure perfection to my ears. Thanks Derek & Jerry 🎶🤩
Derek....the torch carrier that will spread the love to the future generations.
Ahh my two favorite living guitarists playing my favorite instrumental. I tear up every time I hear this song.
One of my favorite songs... Amazing interpretation from those genius guitar players... 😁 👍 👍
Outstanding
Derek never ceases to amaze me. Wish I could have been there to see it. 🤘🏼
This Douglas kid is getting pretty good.
Hahaha.
Not bad
Jerry is to the dobro what Duane was to the slide. If Clapton is God, Jerry is the Holy Ghost!!
He likes Cuban cigars too. He's ok in my book.
ha ha...check his Grammy closet...tons of them...he's really, really..good!
Going to see Jerry with John Hiatt in November. AND if you get the chance go see the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Best touring band in the business. I've seen them 5 times in the past 4 years and each show was awesome.
Drove from St. Louis to Cincinnati to see them 3 years ago and was blown away. TTB is amazing.
I've left word with my relatives that I want "Little Martha" to be played at my funeral.
"Little Martha" is a classic. And these two fine gentlemen are doing it justice. What a sublime moment!
A rumour/ tale that was told to me fifty years ago was that the tune was telling the story of the band members returning home after a long tour... what a time to be alive.
two of the greatest slide guitarists to ever live
I was finally able to see Tedeschi Trucks Band live for the first time in January. I loved it so much I bought a ticket to go the weekend after. Genius guitar player, amazing singer, and one hell of a band.

Tears of Joy........Beautiful !
I could listen to this all day long!
Derek is a true guitar GOD & so is Duane & Derek just continued to keep Duane’s music alive No one will never ever be able to play exactly like Duane except Duane Case Closed
Magic boys, thanks so much.
That was beautiful
Absolutely fantastic. Gorgeous rendition. God bless you both.
One of my all time favorites ❤️
Wow, that's just amazing. Besides Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones I have never been to a better performance than The Tedeschi Trucks Band. So much soul and so much talent. Blessed to be able to experience such musicians and Jerry Douglas!! Great post. Thank-you.
John Lennon and George Harrison platina slide guitar too
Jerry's smile at the end says it all.
This is pure magic....

Such a gem two of the best sliders together !
two maestros just supporting in the name of a great song
That's as beautiful as it gets
Nice... Almost brings a tear to my eye. Missing the Brothers, and the old days...
Making me smile Derek & Jerry. Love it guys!
😃👍
Two of the greatest at their craft!
Just what I sorely needed today- thanks guys. Sky - long nay you run.
God I love the sound of both those guitars
ありがとうございます!
This rendition had me with a continuous, full on, smile on my face at the same time as a tears trickled down my eye. Bravo! And Thank You!
I love Derek’s work. Pretty much anything he does. This number with the two of them...
is very nice ! 👍
WONDERFUL! Love it! Thank You.
Wow!! Thank you for lifting my heart up this evening. Hard to mention finer slide playing or a more gorgeous piece and performance. Thank you for what y'all do for all of us. It's like heaven on earth, crucial for survival.
AWESOME ! and so natural .
I have been thinking about this song all day. Thank you again for posting this.
Jerry and Derek , a match made in heaven !
what a great cover of one of my favorite ABB tunes
That is absolutely... wait...!!! No doubt!! Beautiful Musicianship!!! So humbly played!!!! ... only how it should be... SO!!! Appreciate all the talent that... simply carry's on!!! Blends on!!! ☮❤🍑🙃
Holy Smokes! masterclass for free> we are so very lucky!
Absolutely incredible!
Listening to this stuff makes me happy!!
Brilliant as always
That song just screams for drums, bass and piano!
This is nice, I'd like to hear more of Derek's acoustic side
It is so beautiful. I'm amazed at how I (basically a guitar non-player) can recognize him even on acoustic.
This is a great comment. His talent certainly transcends the type of guitar
every time i hear him play I'm happy derek took up the family business.
That was great stuff! Enough said!
Even here people arguing. Just enjoy the greatness of them both. It's not 8th grade. There is no "best". Peace & Love.
oh my goodness, what a great discovery [Tedeschi Trucks Band]
Lovely piece, performed beautifully
The only song Duane Allman wrote and recorded on an Allman Brothers album. Little Martha was the nickname for Duane's side piece
Beautiful!
Made justice to the great classic.
This is just splendidly beautiful!!!
Just terrific, both of them.
The two best sliding alive!
Two masters at work here.
20 years old and just discovered the Allman Brothers and I’m petrified by myself and my ignorance of these incredible people
Jerry Douglas isn’t a part of the band, he was a guest Dobro player
That was transcendent!
Astonishing 😮
I have heard this song done by 100 different people, but I have honestly never heard it done better than by Duane himself. The best version by far.
Love this version, but Duane rules (RIP)
Two of the best to ever, together.
Breathtaking.
That's how you do it.. 👌 from Bury, Lancashire
Derek trucks is just SUPERB
I want this version played at my funeral.
Makes my heart sing!
Love it when Jerry joins in with TTB
