Not just 'ugly', but they are basically exactly the same as humans except for having long ears. They dont feel any different than humans, well other than them speaking in a more "autistic" tone. The elves in Peter Jackson movies feels so ethereal. They really feel like a "superior race". But i guess the authors of RoP cant have that. Same with numenor. The numenorians are literally a super human race. They are stronger, taller, live longer, more beautiful, better co-ordination and technology, etc. But in RoP they are the exact same as any other humans. I really believe this is because the RoP authors felt that having a super human race is "racist". They cant have races that are different from eachother in any other way than in appearance and looks. But that is what makes the races of Tolkien interesting: that they are so different from eachother.
4:55 The line is Tom's from a similar scene in the books (if I remember correctly, it was when a tree, Old Man Willow, attacked the Hobbits in Fellowship). In the films, the line is given to Treebeard in the extended edition of Two Towers, which you mentioned. It's another instance of Amazon trying to stick it to Peter Jackson but failing spectacularly.
As someone who’s unfamiliar with Tolkien LOTR stories, I wonder what’s the issue with having different skin tones on characters in this series? Are Elves only supposed to be caucasian in appearence? It is likely that Tolkien is a product of his era, not racist but coming from the time period he lived in, he wrote what he was comfortable with. All white people. White Elves, White Wizards, White Hobbits, White Dwarves.. etc. It’s now a more modern era with diversity everywhere, should this series not reflect that fact? Not saying going “WOKE” or “DEI” should be the standard but is it really so bad that if someone is black, he or she may enjoy seeing someone that looks like them on a show they like? To really imagine an Earth, Middle or not, that does not contain people of a variety of skin colors is nonsense & to get upset that non-white characters appear in ROP is more nonsense. Is there a refutation to the above?
ROP is a fanfic show as written by 6 year olds who watch 14 hours of TV a day. EVERYTHING and every character is somehow made smaller and dumber then the books or movies. The costumes, the filming locations the hairstyles. everything smells like a junior high school play that couldnt get enough auditioners so just went with whoever auditioned regardless of race and gender. Bombadil is the wind. He's a force of nature You cant have a rational conversation with him without your head exploding. And if he doesn't care, its not out of malice or selfishness...its just that he's on another level. BTW, I have a theory that Bombadil represents various indigenous people during WW1 or WW2 who are close to nature and have unfathomable lifestyles that are completely unaware and unaffected by the millions of people dying on the other side of the planet.
Agree that the Barrow Downs part was the most egregious offence. I hope galadriel has to answer to all the orc wives and babies whose fathers she just slaughtered. They were just doing their jobs and following orders.
Gandalf arrives in Middle Earth on the shore of the Grey Havens, welcomed first by both Glorfindel and Cirdan. This atrocity has deviated horribly from Tolkien. Peter Jackson changed many things in his films. But at least they still feel LOTR. RoP is neither DnD, Warcraft nor LOTR. It's an abomination.
@@RenaissanceNerd First time here but if I had to guess, 3:34 is one example why. How you conduct yourself and your way of thinking matters a lot, and the competition out there is fierce.

The forced diversity in every isolated RoP community makes no sense in ancient fantasy world building. In original game of Thrones we had representation, but different regions had same ethnic representation, which kind of fused together late in the big city. Only then it make sense.
Watching this show each week makes me think Amazon didn't hire a continuity department. Each episode seems like this week's director didn't prior episodes.
Nerd of the Rings is the biggest shill of them all. So disappointing. I used to love his content, but just can’t with him anymore after he whored himself out to Amazon.
Overall the show is a miss, but I liked Tom Bombadil, even though he's not nearly as joyous as he is in the book. But maybe that's okay because he's not helping Hobbits, he's helping a fellow wizard go through the learning process. He might naturally behave a little differently to 'one of his own' than to hobbits. I think he's well cast too. Gandalf the unwise looks a little too much like Larry David that I keep expecting to hear the music cue for that show. He should wind up being one of the Blue Wizards, instead of Gandalf, but since they aren't strict on their lore adherence it's looking Gandalf-y, which will be disappointing.
Galadriels ring hides things… because ugh she uses it to hide herself and daughter from Sauron which is pretty much how she (basically) spends almost all her time creating and ruling her forest running and hiding from Sauron 😩 with her husband and daughter super simplified but still… not what’s portrayed in this dumpster fire of a show😂 And you’re right I can only watch the fun commentary videos 😁 it’s so much better
Actually the lines given to treebeard in the movie were toms in the books, so really that ain't so bad. Still it was dumb as its in his bloody garden, and this show is just dumb anyway
Who cares really, before online critics people just watched shows and decided for themselves if something was good. I watched this show even after all the online experts had put it down, and guess what its actually ok. So it don't follow the lore to the letter, who cares if the elves look a bit camp. To be fare most on here are probably just followers of the movies and wont know how to even read a book let alone quote lore from it. So again i say who cares just watch it and decide with your own mind whether or not you like it, and if you don't then don't watch more episodes simple.
i am constantly baffled by this show. Not so much surprised by the incompetence, but just baffled by the thought processes behind the decisions. They break every shred of actual lore about Tom Bombadil just to have him show up in the show, act nothing like Tom Bombadil, say a bunch of cryptic nonsense that means nothing to the plot or anyone in in the show.... and just move along.... um, okay, thanks for the reference, i guess? but you've only got 8 episodes and this was all literally just filler so why are you wasting this time? just, bizarre Then there's the barrow wights.... creatures that only exist after a corpse lies for centuries in ground corrupted by the evil of sauron.... corruption that, in this show, only started at best a couple weeks ago thousands of miles away... kind of? because, us, Sauron doesn't control Mordor yet so how is the earth itself being corrupted? Adar isn't a Maiar with a magic ring so this can't, in fact, happen, he frankly has no ability to corrupt on a fundamental level that way.... and, again, it's just a filler action scene in a show that doesn't have this much time to waste so yeah, predictably terrible, yet still baffling in execution because even their contrivances make no sense. I literally cannot make heads or tails of the thought process here.

id rather watch this movie
RoP have the ugliest elves too. They successfully coded ugly video-game characters into live action.

I am a bit concerned that you haven't used correct pronouns for Isildur's horse...
The nobody reference is stolen from Spagetti westerns, i.e. the movie "my name is nobody"
and from the Odyssey (the cyclop and Odiseus scene)
